Del Rey
(Clicks: 23; Comments: 0; Added: 02-17-2007)
Del Rey Books began as an imprint of Ballantine Books in 1977 with the bestselling The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks (which was the first novel to hit the New York Times trade bestseller list). Begun by editor Judy-Lynn del Rey with the editorial assistance of her husband, author and editor Lester del Rey, Del Rey Books quickly grew into the most robust science fiction/fantasy imprint in the field. Over the years, our list has grown beyond Terry Brooks to include Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Stephen Donaldson, Anne McCaffrey, David Eddings, Larry Niven, Alan Dean Foster, Katherine Kurtz, Jack L. Chalker, Barbara Hambly, and many other familiar names.

DMMG (DisAssociation Music & Media Group).
(Clicks: 18; Comments: 0; Added: 07-15-2007)
DMMG (DisAssociation Music & Media Group), was founded in 1998, from the remanants at the time of the previous Cyrkel Spynn Fanzine and Dark & Wise Recordings (tape distro label). Cyrkel Spynn Fanzine orignally ran from 1995 to 1997, as a cut-and-paste style DIY printed fanzine... CS Fanzine was the first ever fanzine of it's kind genrically... CS fanzine was the World's first ever Pagan Music fanzine, the fanzine also had a focus on Gothic music and culture... in 1998 CS fanzine officially called it a day... and DMMG was formed as a music management & promotions label. In 2005, DMMG decided to reform several of it's previous labels these included. Cyrkel Spynn Publications (publishers of Cyrkel Spynn fanzine). Altar-Ego Music (music publishers founded in 1999 as an off-shoot to the AEM Records label which split in 2002). Dark & Wise Recordings (founded in 1997, but refounded as a proper compilation CD label rather than the previous tape distro label). DMMG Management & Promotions. (the original concept of the founding of DMMG was as a management and promotions label, with the label running for several years between 1998 and 2004, the label reformed in 2006). Also were founded in 2006 two new subsiduary labels within the DMMG company, namely: DMMG Records (UK). Seventh Hell Recordings.

Gauntlet Press
(Clicks: 58; Comments: 0; Added: 02-17-2007)
These are books mainly for collectors with a print run of around 500 copies (so, no you won't find them at Barnes & Noble). The authors we publish fall into the horror/dark suspense/dark fantasy arena. You'll find the likes of Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Poppy Z. Brite, F. Paul Wilson, Caitlin R. Kiernan and many others. All books are signed by the author and printed on acid-free paper with special binding--collectibles, in short. EDGE Books is Gauntlet's mass market trade paperback and mass market hardcover arm of Gauntlet. These are books that deserve to be read by a larger audience at an affordable price: books that mass market publishers feel are too risky. You'll find short story collections (Poppy Z. Brite), cutting-edge books too strong for the mass market (Jack Ketchum) and even a mass market hardcover Young Adult novel by Richard Matheson we published to introduce an entire new audience to this revered author. These are NOT print on demand. Our initial print runs start at 5000+ copies and our aim is to get the book into every chain and independent store in the country. The third tentacle of Gauntlet is Gauntlet Magazine, which is devoted to discussing censorship and the limits of free expression. As we publish censored material some issues contain graphic material (sex gets censored; we refuse to comment on censored art unless we can run the art. We do, and it can be disturbing. Consider yourself warned).

Baen Books
(Clicks: 27; Comments: 0; Added: 02-19-2007)
Major Genre Book Publisher. The best in Science Fiction and Fantasy publishing. Jim Baen started his publishing career, appropriately enough, in the complaint department of Ace Books after stints in the Army, at CCNY, and in Greenwich Village in the Sixties working as the manager of a folk music coffee shop (a "basket house"). He soon moved to take Judy Lynn Del Rey's place at Galaxy magazine, and became editor of Galaxy and If in 1974 after brief trip back to Ace to be assistant Gothics editor. While at Galaxy he published such authors as Jerry Pournelle, Charles Sheffield, Joanna Russ and John Varley, and was nominated for several Hugo Awards. He returned to Ace to head their science fiction line, working with publisher Tom Doherty. When Doherty left to start Tor, Baen shortly followed and started the SF line there. In 1983 he had the opportunity to start his own independent company, Baen Books, distributed then and now by Pocket Books/Simon & Schuster. Baen Books has become a market leader, publishing books at the heart of SF, by authors such as David Drake, Lois McMaster Bujold, Elizabeth Moon, David Weber, James Hogan, Mercedes Lackey, Larry Niven and many more. Jim Baen was very active on the baen.com website, "Baen's Bar," where his interests in evolutionary biology, space technology, politics, military history, and bad puns are discussed along with science fiction. He passed away June 12, 2006 after a stroke.

Chaosium
(Clicks: 43; Comments: 0; Added: 02-17-2007)
Chaosium, (Kay-Oss-Eum) is known for publishing high quality books & games, and for having a well-developed sense of fun. In 1975 the company was founded as The Chaosium by Greg Stafford. It was later incorporated as Chaosium Inc. Chaosium thrives in the mild climate, gorgeous surroundings, and gentle earthquakes of the San Francisco Bay area. The main office is in Hayward, located about half-way between San Francisco and San Jose. A short walk away is a very good micro-brewery (and one of the oldest!) and Charlie Kranks home. Charlie is our president and resident BBQ expert. The Chaosium sales, promotion, and propaganda office is located in Silverton, Colorado. No one really understands why that is. Dustin Wright, the fellow who lives and works there, is hard-pressed to explain it himself though sitting at an elevation of 9318 feet, the area holds a curious resemblance to the Plateau of Leng. Most of Chaosium's product lines are based upon literary sources. H.P. Lovecraft's 1920's horror fiction provides the basis of the classic Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game line which has won so many awards that the we have lost count, though we do know that there are more than 70 of them. Mr. Lovecraft also provides the inspiration for our many Call of Cthulhu Fiction collections. Michael Moorcock's popular Eternal Champion Swords & Sorcery novels form the foundation of the Stormbringer roleplaying game. Both Call of Cthulhu and Stormbringer use our Basic Roleplaying system which is alive and well despite many, many years of fun and insanity. In 2005, Chaosium is celebrating our 30th anniversary.

(Clicks: 50; Comments: 0; Added: 02-17-2007)
In 2002 we published two books by Carol Emshwiller (a novel, The Mount, and Report to the Men's Club and Other Stories), a favorite author with six previous books to her name. Last year our first two books (Kelly Link's Stranger Things Happen and Ray Vukcevich's Meet Me in the Moon Room) were well received. We are committed to publishing short story collections and novels by authors we feel are slipping through the cracks. In 1996, long before I ever thought I'd publish any books, I started a small press zine, Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet (LCRW). Whenever I flipped through the magazines at Avenue Victor Hugo Bookshop in Boston, MA, where I worked, I was frustrated that none seemed to have just the right mix (fiction, a spot of poetry, a flash of humor, maybe some art) that I thought would make the perfect magazine. Eleven issues and many long nights at the computer later, LCRW goes from strength to strength. In 2000, we took our first real step toward publishing books when we published two chapbooks, 4 Stories by Kelly Link and Five Forbidden Things by Dora Knez. The chapbooks -- deliberately designed as low-priced editions to introduce new writers and give them a step up between publishing stories and books -- gave us confidence in our design and production capabilities. At about the same time we set up a half-decent website (oddly enough, we still have a half-decent website, www.lcrw.net, but it's larger now) and, with the advent of Paypal, our zine and the chapbooks were suddenly available to anyone...who had the urge to look us up. LCRW and the chapbooks complement our books: they give readers a way to sample our authors without popping for the more expensive books -- the zine is only $4, chapbooks $5, and the books $16 -- and the zine and chapbook reach very different audiences than our books. Our books are carried by Ingram and Baker & Taylor -- our biggest LCRW distributor is Last Gasp.

Necessary Evil Press 5.0

Located in the deep dark woods of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Necessary Evil Press is owned and operated by Don Koish. Established in 2003, Necessary Evil Press has rapidly become a serious contender in the world of specialty press publishing. While the press was still in its infancy, two NEP titles were nominated for the prestigious Bram Stoker Award, and one of them, The Turtle Boy, ultimately went on to receive this great honor. Every year since, our books have appeared in various Year's Best lists and appeared on many award ballots, culminating recently in a 2005 HWA Specialty Press award which cited the press' overall attention to excellence. Among the authors we have worked with are Tim Lebbon (The Assassin series, Berserk), Kealan Patrick Burke (The Turtle Boy), Gary Braunbeck (In the Midnight Museum), Brian Keene (Take the Long Way Home), Simon Clark (She Loves Monsters), and Michael McBride (Zero), almost all of which have sold out pre-publication. Here at NEP we pride ourselves on selecting books based on the strength of story. The name of the author, while most certainly a consideration, is secondary to strong writing, credible characters, an engaging plot and scares aplenty. Backed up by high quality production values and eye-catching artwork, our releases are among the finest and most attractive books you'll find on the market, and we strive to improve with each and every one. We have already discussed future projects with some of the most acclaimed authors out there, and are confident that you will find each new release to be a very necessary addition to your horror library.
