Mrs. Humane and I are empty nesters. The kids have families of their own, and my grandson has his first girlfriend. The cavernous four bedroom home 1400 feet up the side of a Southern California mountain is now the quiet and peaceful home that allows for deep thought and insight, as I gaze out over the city lights and distant mountains at sunset, while listening to Dead Can Dance Anywhere Out of the World or Lacuna Coil's Humane or Cold Heritage, or Miles Davis, Bach, Beethoven and other inspirational music.

This August will be 10 years since I joined Gnet.
Many wonderful, funny, irritating and amazingly beautiful people and friends have come and gone, and all the while this place has tolerated my posts and writings in the Literature Forum.
That acceptance gave me the courage to write more, and now having completed one small 50,000 word novella as well as many short stories I am working on my first novel (projected to be over 100,000 words to be able to tell the whole story).

As can be expected with old age, the number of medical ailments multiplies and each year brings more doctor visits and prescriptions (pain killers! Woo hoo!) but this is simply part of the background of life and nothing more than a minor nuisance.

Writing, restoring vintage vacuum tube electronic test equipment and other devices, studying Maxwell's equations and the derivative products involving laser, optics, polarization and their applications to biomedical diagnostics and treatments will provide a source of satisfaction and joy for years to come, as I also watch with pride as my children and grandchildren grow up and make their way in the world.

But forever and always, my friends here on Gnet will provide the sense of belonging and kinship, and you continue to enlighten me and make me think, broadening my views. Thank you all.
