Those who can actually wear black 24/7 are actually übergoth. When you can werk your attire into your workplace, then you have passed the level of normal gawth.

STERN: I wear all black almost all the time & I'm not a "Uber-Goth". Uber-Goths are the ultimate fucking snobs & I have extreme zero tolerence for elitism in any form. Gothic, to me, is more than just a genre of music. Hell, it's more than an approach to fashion. It's more of a lifestyle. It's more about being attracted to things that the average person would consider creepy or too dark for their sensitive/conformist tatses. For a lot of folks who know Gothic only through negative mass media-inspired stereotypes, it's about being sad all the time. For me personally, there are times when I do get hella depressed, but I know that it's temporary. I can be down, but I don't stay down for long. As for whether someone wearing different colours making them less of a Gothic or not, it doesn't. It's how much satisfaction you get from the Gothic lifestyle, how much you enjoy/feel comfortable with it that determines if you are. In closing, only wannabes think that Gothic is strictly about clothing.

Ooh, I've heard those can be dangerous (prince albert). My brother knows a guy who got it done and now he has to take Viagra 'cause they hit a nerve or something! :shock: I once considered getting one or both of my nipples pierced, but then I realized that my boyfriend tugs on them too much and is a little too rough for me to have that sort of a delicate piercing. I have something I'm debating whether or not I should do. See, I once had a ring in the cartilege of each of my ears, but then they got infected and I had to let them go. My ears actually turned purple! I kind of want to get them redone (or at least on one ear), but I'm afraid it'll just happen all over again and I'll have wasted my money. I wish I knew how it got infected in the first place, so I could avoid whatever it was! So, should I go for it or not?

Yeah, go for it. I had both of my nipples pierced at one time (the Wife loved it) but one of them was infected for a FULL YEAR!! I Eventually took them out, a year of pain and pus was plenty. It turns out it was most likely a reaction to the metal the rings were made of. I mention that because that might be how your ear cartiledge got infected.

BOT, I have night job where I can where anything I want. It's a warehouse and I am all alone.

Well, most of my customers are old coots, but I'm allowed to incorporate "goth" into my look. Most of my customers remember me cuz of my look. It's funny that the only people I see on a regular basis who remember Betty Page(I get alot compliments on my bangs) are all between the ages of 50-80.

Yeah, the elderly can be cool. The only non-goths I know who listen to Siouxsie and the Banshees are some of my teachers who are like dinosaurs. No they're not old, probably in their late 40's.

Whenever I go to watch some old black and white film or an independent movie; the only people I see in the theater are over 50. That's how I can tell if it's a good movie. :)

Yeah, I’ve been feeling like “less of a goth” lately. There were these new goth chicks who attended my school last semester. They’re so pretty. The goths at my school before they came were colored and exotic like me. But they graduated as seniors and left town. I had to bid farewell to my goods friend Christina and Brian. :cry: But I never had the guts to talk to the other girl.

The new girls look more common --- stick thin (seriously, it appears that they wear size 0s), funky hair styles with bangs, and uber thin eyebrows. No, I’m not trying to criticize the many who look like that, I’m just describing their appearance. Honestly, it would be great to look like that for a change.

They pull off the bangs and thin eyebrows without looking ridiculous. I wish that I could do that to my hair and face, but I can imagine that they wouldn’t suit me. While I am fair skinned, I can never have a Snow White complexion. I’m too much of a yellow bellied Sneech.

Of course goth is more than the look. I guess I feel like one of those days where I can't accept myself.

My best friend Elena, befriended one of them in English class. I believe her name is Alex or something. They were on the subject of the local club one day. Elena mentioned that I saw her at Numbers (the goth club.) “Oh, the Mexican looking one who wears all the black?” she responded. I wasn’t there so I don’t know if it came out snobbish. I take it that it didn’t sound very friendly.

I feel pressured to fit in with them. I feel dumber than usual, why should I care if others in my subculture accept me?

Some may argue that this belongs in Body Image Issues or Goths of Color threads. Well I’m feeling like less of myself so I’m posting it here. And please feel free to poke fun at my pathetic whining.

They are new, right? They should be trying to fit in with YOU. Talk to them, they may be cooler than you think.

As far as the "Mexican looking who wears all the black?" comment, it is certainly possible nothing was meant by it. The Maternal side of my family is Italian, so when I go to Family Reunions, I see an onslaught of statuesque females with long black hair, all dressed in black. BUT, they aren't goths, they're just Italian *shrugs*. It may have been something like that. How can anyone know you are of the same ilk if they don't know you?

Yeah, I have a lot of those days where I feel like "less of a goth", which is why I started this thread. I envy alternative models in Gothic Beauty magazine and wish I could afford those dresses. I feel like my little cobbled together outfits made from skirts and tops gleaned from hand-me-downs and a lot of decidedly non-goth stores are somehow not as good as the big name brands like Tripp and stuff, like because I can't afford the expensive shit I'm somehow not as worthy to be called a goth. I dunno if that sentence was grammatically correct, but you probably know what I mean.

Goth is all about DIY, people! Or at least being thrifty if you lack sewing skills.

Onnix, don't worry about only having cobbled together outfits, that's 90% of my clubbin' wardrobe right there! Don't worry about trying to fit in with the elitist snob crowd, you're already Uber! Your genuine love for the music (aside from liking bands like *CoF*, which I guess is a forgivable offense ;P) already assures the stamp of approval on your Goth-Card(TM).

Goths buy what's on the discount rack just like everyone else, our stuff's just darker! Besides, alot of those brand names out there aren't worth shit as far as wear-n-tear goes. If you must save up for a gown one day, ask around the web about the quality of the item or company. Me, I like making my own stuff. It's fun and no one else has anything just like mine!

And that's what's really important!

Dreamy, don't be intimidated by other goths. They'd probably be more than happy to befriend you, they might just be shy about entering a new person into the group. Just go up and talk to them. If they blow you off, just know that at least you tried to be a nice, then you can be as snarky as you like!

And as far as "why should I care if others of my subculture accept me?", well humans is pack/family type critters. We like to be around those like us. Much as we decry the pressure to fit in with society, we do want to fit in with someone, somewhere. And why shouldn't it be with other fabulous dressers that have the same exsquisite taste in music that we do?
