Portland, Oregon, U.S. Could Use Some Improvement & Encouragement in the Goth Culture

Weatherwise, our rainy season ought to start in September and end in July. I kind of miss that. But I can't tell Mother Nature what to do. I might get my butt kicked. :D
Culturaly, this city is considered liberal....too liberal for most people in the U.S. Some call the West coast of the United States "the Left Coast" now anyway because of its recent trend of liberal thinking. It's trying adopt more global, or at least European-like awareness. A big reason for that is that Portland has five major colleges/universities, not to mention numerous smaller colleges around the city. So the people are educated. And they're generally politically, socially, culturaly, and environmentally active.
The downside is that we have a growing homeless poppulation here, and it's not just street kids anymore. Don't lose your job here, because it's tough to find another. The economy is bad because many of the jobs either went to other countries or had been sent mostly to the Southwest. Some say we have probems like these because we're too left-leaning, but it wasn't like this ten years ago.
Portland is progessive city. That makes flag-waiving conservatives mad.
It would be nice for the Gothic community to be more solid, but it needs more positive encouragement. It definatly exists, but it needs at least one good goth club, for example to bring unity here, instead of a bunch of scattered goth nights at random clubs. It also needs other established hangouts, too. But that's just my opinion.
That's just a little of what Portland is like. It has its good and bad points like any other place, but for now, I like it here.

Suddenly I realized that I had just presented myself before an international clan! Wow. I wasn't prepared for that. Thanks!

True. Since I've never done this before, the first thing I thought was, "Wow, I'd better behave myself like a good little girl." The second was, "Yikes! I'm American! There are Americans that are doing nasty things in other countries, making the rest of us look bad!" We don't get the most accurate news over here, so we don't always know what's going on. It's sort of nationalist here (although it was Much worse when Bush was president), so even though I may not go out of my way to prove myself to anyone, that doesn't mean I'm not conscious of how we might look to the rest of the world.
As for me, well, I'm not "bad" or "good". I'm just me, of course. However, Isaloween, it's nice to be reminded of that once again.
I'm pretty sure the things Americans do to themselves are significantly worse, and that they didn't need any help from those "other" Americans to look bad.
