Xng has a point, although going for unique on purpose can leave you with shit like "Unas" or something (let's hope I've not offended anyone).

I'm a David, which is of course about as unique as it gets. My grad department has about 25 people in it. Three have my name. The suck.

lena 04-11-2006 10:33 AM

wolf moon, if your in a biting mood, me next! me next! ;) Your right Willemina would be god awful. *shudders*

Oh god, this is so funny, xnguela, I named my daughter Caity......well actually its Caitlyn, but we call her Caity. Do you think shes going to hate me for it??? I about laughed my ass off over your post, bitching about your name. No offense to you ofcourse, just my sense of humor. I did even worse to my son and named him Justin. I just didnt want them to be picked on because they had wierd names.

Sobeh, My step dads name is david too.

I love both of those names. Good call. :)

lena 04-11-2006 11:28 AM

xng, you didnt mention that you could also be nicknamed Kat. Or maybe you just hate that one. I picked Caitlyn because I liked that she would have to stretch to far to find a nick name she liked. As for popularity, unfortunately Caitlyn has been really popular. Stupid me for not checking that kind of thing out. But your right that Caity (or Katy, or Katie) are not as common as they used to be.

Thanks wise child.

lena 04-11-2006 12:04 PM

I did the same thing in school, when i was little it was tina, or teeny, because little kids would pronouce it wrong, then it was Lee, (chopped right out of the middle) then I used Dawn, my middle name, In highschool I became Star.....I like that one best.

I know the feeling, Xnguela. My name's Ivana, which is one of the most common names in Serbia, and in my class in elementary school there were four of us.

Saya 04-11-2006 02:30 PM

Ah, the horror of having a common name. Mine is Megan, and there were five of us in my grade alone growing up. Apparently thats because there was a popular mini-series on tv in the late eighties with a character named Megan, and so my mother, among others, thought it was a cute name. People shouldn't look to TV for name ideas.

Anywho, Lena, you have a great name! And welcome to gnet!

lena 04-11-2006 03:15 PM

Thanks for the welcome Saya, I know what you know about your name, I had quite a few megans running around in my grade too.

Flyttamouse 04-25-2006 06:36 AM

Is that your artwork in your avatar Lena...I like it...

lena 04-25-2006 07:39 AM

yes and know mouse. I used paint shop pro (10) for that, which uses "picture tubes" which is sort of like a sticker you can add to your artwork. So the little goth fairy, is not my original creation (used with permission from the artist), The lettering, background and combination of the 3 are my original creation.

lena 04-25-2006 07:46 AM

oops, I meant yes and no. Oh, and thank you for the compliment.

Jane13 04-25-2006 06:37 PM

I'm not terribly worried about giving my full name because it sounds so made-up anyway.

"Jane Emily White". Beat THAT for a lack of creativity. At least now my name is "Jane Emily Parasceva White".

I like the way you spelled Caity's name, and your name is cute ^^ Lena is nice, as well, though ^^

lena 04-27-2006 07:15 AM

Jane, thanks, I think your name is pretty, even though its average, did your parents plan on your initials spelling "Jew" or was that an accident. I once had a friend whose initials spelled "ass" she got her middle name changed. It would be seriously funny if you married someone with the last name "Doe".

My mother's name is Cáitlín - almost the same. It's a common enough name here in Ireland, the anglicised version of which is "Kathleen". But I imagine you pronounce your daughter'S name "Kate-lin"? My mother's name is pronounce something like "Cawtchleen". I imagine the two names are related, though.

lena 04-27-2006 12:32 PM

Yes they are related, when i looked up her name in the baby books, it was noted as being irish ( and meaning innocent, pure, or virginal). But we dont pronounce it the irish way like your mother.

I've realized that I've never welcomed you.

So, anyways, here's a late welcome...... Better late than never, right? ;)

lena 04-27-2006 02:25 PM

Well thanks for the welcome any how!

Ha ha, no, they didn't, but when I whent to summer camp when I was young my mom told me to write my innitials on all my stuff without realizing that they spelled "Jew" :p

I once got a sample test at school on which I thought my name had been messed up.

I love your fairy avis.

lena 04-27-2006 08:22 PM

Jane, its funny that it took that long to notice. Since my friends problem, I made sure my kids names dont spell anything, But my sons first and last initials are J.C. so I am fond of saying "Just because your initials are the same does not make you the son of god!!!" Usually when he is being an ass and acting like he can get away with murder.

Thanks for the avi compliments. I love slightly evil but cute looking fairys.

Jane13 04-28-2006 03:16 PM

I think that's a rather good parental move ^^; and you're welcome.
