Ah, so something akin to the way the lycans were forced to live like in Underworld, except that it is vampires instead. Thanks for the explanation.
(Although I am impressed it was your imagination that you were referring to in the original comment, I was hoping it was a book you were referencing so I could buy it. Well, I will just have to write such a story myself then! Unless you beat me to it. :D )

I balanced long between the Dracula and the Underworld style, but I chose "aristocratic". I'm literally being called a vampire (and my two friends are being called Imp and Werewolf - none of us knows why we have these nicknames), apparently because there are not any even remotely aristocratic goths around. I really liked the vampires in Underworld, but I think they have this modern style only due the fact they were living in a modern style town. Had they been in a castle or a manor like Dracula...

Kamrusepas 12-17-2006 02:12 AM

Tall, thin, elegant, beautiful, graceful, drinking red wine...

Minyaliel 12-17-2006 04:18 AM

I chose aristocratic; I absolutely adore the stories where vampires are like that.

Just as a fun fact: the original vampires in Romanian folk belief were the bloodshot, half- rotted corpses of peasants. They were not elegant in any way, as they'd just dug themselves up from the soil in which they were buried, and looked pretty much like a very dirty and blood thirsty zombie. (Yes, I've read my History of the Vampires ;) )

Revenant, then.

I can't decide between aristocratic and modern. I <3 both.

BlackWidow 12-18-2006 11:52 PM

First off, I LOVE Nosferatu! Second vampires are not real. But if they were I would so be one. Dont get me wrong I love vampires and shit, I love blood. Me and my husband share our blood all the time. But they arent real. I wish though, right?

Lol. Nice....I wish they were too buddy. My dreams are also shattered. But then again, I'm not some little pre-teen who doesnt the difference between reality and a fantasy.

I like all of them, actually, but my fave would be the romantic-looking ones ala Interview with a Vampire. Gotta love the velvet clothing and all that.

It actually seems like adults are the ones who can't grasp reality. There are a lot of people out here who claim to be real vampires. And they are very serious about it. Hahaha.

There was a documentary on National Geographic last October, dealing with the lives of real vampires. It was pretty humorous.

"Ahem" what? They arent real. I saw that show I think. About people who have some kind of disease and dont have enough blood in their bodies so they have to inject blood or something. And they are allergic to sun so they are pale and are only out at night....yeah I saw it. But that's not the same. Vampired kill people in order to survive, therfore a "Real" vampire would be a murderer. I love blood, but I dont go around claiming I am a vampire!

HumanePain 12-19-2006 06:21 PM

Reading this thread makes me want to watch Underworld again...for the bazillionth time!

Letuchiy Mysh 12-19-2006 09:20 PM

Aristocratic vampires are the best! I like Ann Rice's books, but there are some things there i'd like to change to make them closer to real life and to make vampires more real too.Like if they couldn't read thoughts and fly like airplanes from one place to another i would just love them. And all those "ancient blood" difficulties also sound like fairy tale. And of course i d like them to be able to walk at the day time=))

sorry for my english, its not my native language

I like the Nosferatu style vamps, if any at all. I like zombies a hell of alot better because vampires are so damn cheesy. Or at least the aristocratic kinds are. Also people who actually think that they are vampires make me laugh.

badteccy 12-20-2006 05:46 PM

Zombies > Vampires

hurf durf

Circle V 12-20-2006 05:56 PM

I dislike vampires. I like characters that resemble vampires.

Ghouls are more frightening.

Zombies are more fun.

Hopping corpses (jiāngshī) are fucking terrifying.

Godslayer Jillian 12-20-2006 08:58 PM

Nothing beats a vampire when it is a real vampire: an almost literal crawler of the night, who desperately looks for a prey and fears civilization, because he knows he can kill a person, but he would perish in front of a mob.

GirlsNotMe 12-20-2006 09:04 PM

I like vampires who sit on thrones when they are alone in their castle.

I mean, seriously, no one does that anymore!

Vladinator 12-21-2006 04:46 PM

Stylish and Modern for sure. Underworld is a bad example though, because it's a blatent rip off of white-wolf games different Vampire games. Long story short - they took Sony to court, got a boat load of money in an out of court settlement, etc. I'm suprised not to see any other posts about RPG vampires.

I don't understand this last comment: you mean there are stories of vampires as cyberpunks?
Yes. There is a yahoo group called Future World of Darkness or some such. It's about the current World of Darkness game in a future setting. There are also a few Vampire movies that are set either in space, or the future. Lifeforce comes to mind, there is another in my Netflix queue, but I can't remember the name right now. Michael Ironsides is in it, I think.

Call me silly, but I have long associated vampyres with romance. I found them to be passionate beings, beautiful and elegant -- or so I wished them to be. Years ago I fantasized of being whisked away by a handsome vampyre. Silly me.
Who needs a knight in shining armour? I would rather have a vampyre draped in Medieval clothing.

I find realistic humans of this type far more interesting. Fangs are so 2005.

Crying_Crimson_Tears 12-21-2006 07:00 PM

I loooooovvvvveeeeddddd the vampires in Underworld. Especially Selene, she is so I don't know. There is just something about her. The fangs and her pale skin. I like the fact she can use a weapon too. I don't know, I like the modern vampires. They're still elegant but modernly so.
