GAH! FOB covering Love Will Tear us Apart? Say it isn't so ):
That's musical abuse. Goth Forever |
On the topic of Venus and the Furs Bauhaus did a cover, but I've only ever heard it on Press Eject and Give Me The Tape. The sound quality on that leaves a bit to be desired, so it may be a great cover it may be a terrible cover. The world will just never know off that album.
Manson's covers are dull for the most part. Bauhaus' seemed to all be boss. Other than those two I can't think of many covers that are really worth mentioning. Oh yeah, Peter Murphy's cover of Final Solution, so much better than Pere Ubu. Props on a good try to them though. |

any, repeat, ANY cover marilyn manson or cradle of filth has ever done was good, except personal jesus but thats just because its not a good song to begin with, he made a fine cover of a song that wasnt too good anyway
|
Well...let me tell you one thing.
All covers done by me and nearly posted on YouTube are a gazillion times worse than the originals. I sing like a wok. Enough said. |
Let's see here... The Animals version of, "Paint it Black." Nothing like spicing it up with additional lyrics, a violin, and some Cajun spice!
Maybe even The Shroud's cover of, "Red Over White," could get a mention. Hmmm... the Bright Stairs tribute cover of, "Brother Fear." The, "Dead Souls," cover of Joy Division by Nine Inch Nails wasn't too bad either. And of course, how could this list be completed without mentioning Tim McGraw's, "Indian Outlaw?" |

Interesting. A little "softer" in terms of vocals than the Dessau version or even the original Ministry song.
A brief audio clip can be found here (track 12): http://www.amazon.com/Off-Paved-Skin...8418381&sr=1-1 |

I'm not even going to begin on the Marilyn Manson thing. But yeah a lot of covers are really good these days because people are covering of bands that really sucked and making the songs better, such as COF covering ANY IRON MAIDEN SONG, or covers like Behind Blue Eyes (which was really really amazing aside from two parts that killed it a bit) |

I actually liked orgy's cover of BLUE MONDAY over the eighties jam...
|
I liked Johnny Cash's' cover of PERSONAL JESUS and DIRT better...
and if I ever get the chance, I swear I am gonna do an album of smaltzy eighties tunes and totally revamp them! |

Cake's cover of "I Will Survive" is better than the original, IMO, and Nouvelle Vague's "Bela Lugosi's Dead" was pretty good as was Fiona Apple's "Across the Universe."
Also good: Groove Coverage- Poison The Decemberists- Little Boxes Placebo- 20th Century Boy and Running Up That Hill The F-Ups- All the Young Dudes |
Some decent covers:
In Every Dream Home a Heartache- Rozz Williams & Gitane Demone Ziggy Stardust- Bauhaus Telegram Sam- Bauhaus School's Out- 45 Grave Some not-so-decent ones: This is Halloween- Both the Marilyn Manson and the Fallout Boy versions Lovesong- 311 (Or whomever made that awful reggae version) Tom Sawyer- Mindless Self Indulgence |
^ bro it was Panic! that covered this is halloween

It's cool, they don't sound too different if you actually like them you can tell them apart. Best cover ever = Oops I Did It Again covered by Children of Bodom, it cracks me up
|
I think it depends on whoever is redoing it and what the song is. Some people completely mess up songs, while some put it to justice. Can't think of any goth examples here, but here's a non-goth one anyways...the Relient K (yes, you may cringe) version of "We Are The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" can NEVER compare to the brilliancy of the original VeggieTales (yes, you may cringe, but I love the show all the same since I'm religious and it's funny) version. But I like Marilyn Manson's version of "Sweet Dreams". I don't know why, but I do.

I am a big fan of cover versions and have a few albums of "tribute" albums based around Goth bands.
I love the Mission's version of Atomic (which can be found on the NME "Ruby Trax" album) and I really like Minstry's version of "What a Wonderful World". Nouvelle Vague have done some awesome Goth, Punk and Two Tone covers. Their version of Lords of the New Church's "Dance with Me" is inspired. Not the worst cover I've heard but possibly the creepiest is Lords of the New Church covering "Like a Virgin"... (makes me want to shower afterwards, it just makes you feel dirty) :D Rosetta Stone do a good version of "Venus in Furs" and "The Witch" is one of their more famous songs. I even have a live version of SoM singing the Kylie Minogue song "Confide in Me" which isn't bad either. |
i feel that a band called Van Canto does amazing covers of music i don't normally listen to like metallica.
but glee is one cover band i despise |
