I like Darkwave, Synthpop and Rock in Spanish (you have to listen to those amazingly lack-of-any-sense lyrics) Also I like some Alternative Rock and Faith and the Muse (not quite sure what genre it is)

rockandrose 12-04-2005 04:31 PM

Glam rock/hard rock, progressive metal, jazz, visual kei, electronica/industrial...

LightPollution07 12-05-2005 08:37 AM

does anyone else here think that gothic rock is both a genre and whatever else you fancy??? whether its classical or country or pop???

I do.

individuality is kick ass

that means not conforming to a certain group of music, in a sense

SicGoth 12-07-2005 08:37 AM

I like anything Punk or rock or classical music

Shadowed Aegis 12-07-2005 08:44 AM

Besides goth music, I was very nearly strictly a classical music listener (10 years of playing the piano tends to set one's musical tastes, at least in my case). I really really prefer music from the romantic and impressionist eras as well as music of the type of Schoenberg. All time favorite song would have to be: Notjustmoreidlechatter by Paul Lansky, which while not really classical, still kicks ass.

rockandrose 12-07-2005 09:08 AM

I also like french music.

gothictuesday 12-07-2005 09:15 AM

I love epic metal--Sinergy, Power Symphony, Rhapsody, etc.

Shadowed Aegis 12-07-2005 09:36 AM

Il est temps comme ces que j'aurais apprendu plus de francais.

Shadowed Aegis 12-07-2005 09:42 AM

It's not so much I don't know much anymore, more that since planning to go to France in a few years, I wish I knew more than just enough to understand it (when the people talk slow)/write it. And sure heh, maybe it'll motivate me to get off my lazy ass and work through the french textbook collecting dust in a corner of my room.

shattered black heart 12-07-2005 09:51 AM

Has any band in our society actually identified themselves as goth? It just dosn't happen! As far as I am concerned the public labels bands not the band itself. Puddle of mud is good but I would never actually buy thier cd but thats just me .

shattered black heart 12-07-2005 09:57 AM

That might be but A true goth dosn't call themselves goth. It should be reconizable without having to say a word. I just hate music labels they are so stupid.

No, no I don't think that. No, no. No. No. No. No. You're wrong. No.

No matter how much black lipstick you wear while listening to her, Britney Spears will never be goth.

So you're saying that language, as whole, is not goth, and that, as goths, we should try to break the chains that words put on us? GREAT IDEA- Now, you first: Shut up. It'll be so totally goth.

But seriously, I understand where you're coming from, but you're wrong. Labels are stereotypes, but they're necessary, if you want anybody to have at least a *vague* idea of what you're talking about. If I enjoy typical bands that people identify as "goth", and my friend asks me what type of music I'm listening to lately, I'm not going to go into a self-righteous rant about how I don't think labels are politically correct, I'm going to say "I'm pretty into goth music now." It's a lot nicer. A lot less egotistic.

Onikage 12-07-2005 10:47 AM

Besides goth-rock I like all kinde of rock and similar musice!
My favorit bands are nirvana, rammstein, whitestrips, the strokes are good, slayer, gorillaz, linkin park, daft punk a bit tehno must be,green day and that is all,I think!

arc-en-gel 12-07-2005 01:31 PM

i like jazz, blues, heavy metal, gothic, classical, and other styles i have no clue what the name could be.
to say the truth, i play clarinet for a long time and though i tried to play gothic with it, i never succeeded :D
so, eventually, i play jazz and i listen to gothic.

arc-en-gel 12-07-2005 01:48 PM

c'est évidemment plus naturel pour moi de parler en français. Mais bon, c'est un site en anglais donc on va peut-être pas commencer à tout pourrir avec une langue que la plupart des inscrits ne comprennent pas. :D :D

arc-en-gel 12-07-2005 02:06 PM

well, i'm warned if i wanna say something bad in French...
but, that's nice, i take it ;)

Shadowed Aegis 12-07-2005 02:42 PM

Salut arc, j'espere que tu aimeras ton sejour a g.net.

arc-en-gel 12-07-2005 02:44 PM

hey, Fortunately not everybody speaks French, otherwise i couldn't say shit about americans just before them :D

well, there is some parts i cannot do that, even using slang. San Francisco for instance is just full of French!

Demon Eyes 12-07-2005 07:05 PM

Shadowed Aegis 12-07-2005 07:08 PM

Actually, I find french game shows on the cbc french channel to be a heck of alot more entertaining than the english ones.

I've posted a long list of my favorites elsewhere... here it is, edited, among other things, to include Audioslave-- I don't know why I forgot them, since they were my favorite band for a long while, and still are one of my favorites. Their lyrics are very dark, much like Chris Cornell's previous band, Soundgarden, though it doesn't always appear so at first glance. I haven't heard their new CD, though...

Anyway, here you go:

Industrial-- Nine Inch Nails, Combichrist, Hanzel und Gretyl, KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, Bile
Blues-- Tom Waits
Classic Rock-- Aerosmith, Guns 'N Roses
Texas Rock-- Stevie Ray Vaughn, ZZ Top, Eric Clapton
Jazz-- Coltrane, Davis, Monk, The Marsalis Family
Alternative-- Sting, Dido, Tori Amos
Goth Rock-- The Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie, Type O Negative, Christian Death
Classic Metal-- Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer
Thrash-- Pantera
Modern Metal-- Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir
Modern Alt Metal-- A Perfect Circle, Tool
Classical-- Vivaldi
Rock/Classical-- Apocalyptica, Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Grunge-- Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains
Post-Grunge-- Audioslave

I listen to all sorts of music. I have really been getting into old school rap lately because I think Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaata were/are genuises. Besides that I have always been into punk. I have been a Misfits(Glenn Danzig) freak for quite a while and I love The Exploited,Subhumans and GBH.The only kinds of music that I really don't like is new country,jazz,nu-metal and black metal. I like old school Metallica and some other old metal bands but cookie monster vocals get on my nerves.

I have always associated goth primarily with the music. That is how the whole subculture started out in the first place...with the music. The fashion and everything else followed. A person can be moribund and not be goth. A person can listen to goth music and metal and still be goth because they like the music. If you don't listen to the music at all then why call yourself goth? How is your personality and lifestyle goth? I am actually interested in your answers and not being sarcastic.

According to the dictionary it means 'one who is about to die'. However it can also mean one who has dark thoughts. I first heard the word in a Samhain song ironically enough called Moribund. Gotta love Glenn Danzig.
