Any country where the president thinks Tarja Turunen is the best dressed person is tops with me. Also quite technologically advanced.

YAY throttling!! wait a sec. not good. CARRY ON!

I think it's the stoicism of the Finnish people. They have endured alot of crap. Also in Scandinavian culture, silence and the stoic attitude is encouraged. It's an antiemo country unlike some parts of the US.

I still don't know about it being a mecca of Goth. I know that it is for black metal, et all, but not Goth. It is true there's a big Goth movement in the Nordic countries, but as far as it being nearly as big as the metal one... I seriously don't know.
As for a Goth mecca... where would that be?? Probably Manchester or Berlin... Anyone can give some feedback about that? |
Cause they're communists

Funny. I thought Germany was the goth mecca. I suppose I was wrong. I know it has a huge industrial influence though. ^__^
But if you ever want to see something odd and interesting, take a gander at Italian Goths. Now that's really something to behold... |
I feel this is more accurate:
Gothic Mecca- London Deathrock Revival Mecca- California Industrial Mecca- Germany? Maggz would have to say yes or no on this one. |
If I was born in the European Union, I would immediately move to Finland. It just seems like an awesome place. It's supposedly at the bleeding edge of technology and intelligence too.
As for it being a "Gothic" mecca. Eh. I suppose it could have a large "Gothic" population if you want to call it that, but places that stand out in my mind as being "Gothic" are more along the lines of London, Vienna (I even know why on this one), and generally more to the south or the west of Germany. |
From traveling throughout the world, I have seen that perhaps the most popular places for the goth culture (underground, obviosuly) would be in The Netherlands and natively, London England (for me.) I love Finland for many reasons, though it's not someplace I regulary visit, it's quite an authentic country.
