Lackluster_Heavens 02-25-2006 06:37 PM

To get back on topic, I fear...spiders. I hate them sooo much. I dont really know why, every time I see one I scream like a girl in a bad 40s horror movie. Then squish it, depending on how large it is.

Saya 02-25-2006 06:48 PM

That reminds me of a story. My roommate is afraid of spiders too, and one day a relative of hers asked her to babysit. She asked them if they had any pets, and they said "Oh, we have the cat and Rosie". So she went over there and when the kids were asleep she played around on their computer, when something caught the corner of her eye. She turned around and there was a huge tarantula on the lamp shade. Turns out Rosie was their beloved bird eating tarantula that they let crawl around the house. She screamed and woke the kids up, and asked them to kill the big spider in the room. All they could do was laugh.

Lackluster_Heavens 02-25-2006 06:53 PM

Oh dear god, I hate those things so much. Once my damn friends bought a devenomed one and put it in my bed as a joke, I almost had a damn heart attack. So if I was in that situation, I probably would've killed the poor family's pet with a bat or something.

eyesofatragedy 02-25-2006 07:03 PM

Saya, that is so funny and yet so horrible. I can feel that girls pain. I once made my boyfriend come from all the way form the other side of town to kill a cockroach. I would have killed the family pet too.

Eh lets face bugs are icky. Well to me anyways.

Gnossos 02-25-2006 07:13 PM

I can't go to sleep unless one leg is outside of the covers. This seems to be genetic, since my mother, sister, brother, niece and nephew have/had the same quirk. No monsters under my bed!

Although I love most all critters, I'm scared shitless of possums. I saw one in our yard when I was about six, and I still remember those freaky shiny little appleseed eyes. Also, it seemed to be SMILING at me with it's nasty, undoubtably rabies-ridden, pointy yellow-toothed mouth. Gah, I'm getting creeped out just thinking about it.

Also, rat tails. While I can appreciate the rat's intelligence, cuteness, and general pocket-pet appeal, I am seized with an atavistic loathing whenever I handle one and feel that appendage against my own skin. Our shelter recently took in twenty rats, so I am revisiting that fear on a regular basis. It's probably linked to the Possum Problem.

And, like any sane person, I am afraid of clowns.

Saya 02-25-2006 07:16 PM

I'm not afraid of clowns, I had a clown doll that I LOVED as a kid, and it played music. Though, granted, my sanity often comes into question.

Godslayer Jillian 02-25-2006 08:05 PM

Hehe, let me tell you the cutest thing in the world.
My Ana loves animals. She has two dogs, but here's the interesting part:
She has had also lizards, insect pets, his brohter had a black scoorpion they both loved, and she absolutely adored a millipede she used to have, yet, she is scared to death of butterflies :D

I love that girl!

There is always something to fear. For example, most people fear seeing the people they love in pain, or at the very least, the things they covet destroyed or taken. If you don't, you don't love anyone or anything at all.

darkangel29 02-25-2006 08:35 PM

So you love no one but yourself in essence? Boy, that's pretty damn low....

Godslayer Jillian 02-25-2006 08:35 PM

Yup, Circle V is completely right. See how it all connects? So if you start to profoundize, fear is woven straight to your soul.

GeishaGirl 02-25-2006 09:33 PM

I'm a pussy when it comes to bugs too. When I first moved into this place, I was finding spiders everywhere. I would shriek and make the Man kill them. Only he wouldn't. He would pick them up and take them outside, so they could breed more spiders to infiltrate our house.

Prof_Moriarty 02-25-2006 09:36 PM

That's because spiders are our FRIENDS. They eat all the bugs I really hate, like ants and mosquitos and gnats.

GeishaGirl 02-25-2006 09:38 PM

Ants I can deal with. Venoumous, angry, hairy eight legged beasts I cannot.

Prof_Moriarty 02-25-2006 09:47 PM

That's because you've never found ants in your cereal. After you've taken a bite of it.

=b

GeishaGirl 02-25-2006 09:52 PM

Yes I have. We had a huge ant problem when I lived in my old house.

This one's not about ants, but one time, I wanted some cereal and there was this really old box that had been sitting in our cuboard for a while. I pour myself a bowl and give it a little milk. Put my spoon in, and then to my mouth. Chew chew chew my little 8 year old heart out. It was a crunchy oats cereal. I look down into my bowl and there were a bunch of nasty little worm things crawling around.

I puked. Screamed. Puked.

Prof_Moriarty 02-25-2006 09:54 PM

Ok, fine. You've got me beat. But still...come on, spiders aren't THAT bad. It's not like we live in an area where brown recluse spiders can dissolve away our legs while we sleep.

GeishaGirl 02-25-2006 09:57 PM

Actually, we live where brown recluses are indiginous. I know it's not bum-fuck nowhere like you're used to, but SPIDERS MAN! They're out there!

Prof_Moriarty 02-25-2006 09:59 PM

Well.... I've protected you from the Evil Spider Horde quite well so far. Where's my payment?

Back on topic: I hate when anything gets too close to my eyes. I = weird like that.

Tall One In Black 02-25-2006 10:04 PM

I'm not exactly fond of insects, but most of them don't bother me that much.

However, roaches are an entirely different matter. Not the little guys, but the BIG nasty Palmetto* bug roaches. I get chillls just thinking about them. Fortunately my encounters with them have been rare.

If I ever saw a roach in my apartment, I'd freak out. If I ever saw a second roach in my apartment, I'd say, "Okay, roaches, it's all yours. I'm out of here!" :P

Even worse are the huge flying roaches. I truly can't imagine anything worse than a giant nasty roach with the ability to fly right at you. If one ever touched me, I think I'd drop dead right on the spot.

*I think that's how it's spelled. I would look it up on Google, but I'm afraid a picture might pop up from Google Images.

anchyyy 02-26-2006 12:11 AM

I still bite my nails when i'm nervous. Beside that i'm afraid of mirrors in a dark place. That's because one night i dreamt, that a monster pulled me through the glass to hell... Sounds crazy, but from that moment on i fear it. Old habits? Hmmm... I could say smoking and drinking. I started to drink last summer and i started smoking in August last year :D

Sanctus Dei 02-26-2006 01:36 AM

JUNE BUGS... GAH.

Okay a fellow employee of mine found the following bug in his back yard, he caught it in a plastic container so we could mull over what the hell it was.... we figured it out, then he caught another... I'm now scared to leave the house.

Okay not really, but realize as you look that it is approximently 5'1/2 to 6 inches long mandible to wing tip and it's tail almost reaches the span of it's wings, not to mention it sports a claw at the tip that looks like three individual moving fingers...

WolfMoon 02-26-2006 07:39 AM

Sanctus, that thing is fucking scary!

Bleh!

My X always wanted to get an African Birdcatcher(Tarantula). I don't mind the smaller bugs, but they just shouldn't get beyond a certain size.

Bleh.

That Robert Doll is kinda cute. I think it's just the very active imaginations of some silly people. Funny thing, most of my dolls that sit out in my bedroom face my bed. It's oddly comforting. But then, I've painted the faces on many of them. It would be kinda silly to fear my own creation.

I have almost the exact same fear as Mark when it comes to the ocean. And for the same reason too. I saw all the Jaws movies when I was fairly young. Despite the fact that I now know more than the average Joe about sharks, if that water's the least bit murky I'm not gettin' near it.

I have to sleep with every door in the room closed and locked. Still can't figure that one out.

I can't open my eyes in te dark or I might see 'something'. There have been several people in my family that have prophetic dreams/see ghosts. I just hope I don't become one. I have had a couple of supernatural encounters, but I'm hoping to prevent any more.

If I have to go anywhere in my home with the lights out, I run for my life and don't look behind me.

That's all for now.

Tune in next time...

eyesofatragedy 02-26-2006 08:31 AM

Sanctus, I too fear the ungodly June bug! In the summer they congregate on our porch in swarms and as soon as I see them I start freaking out and yelling trying to make way to safety.

My X used to make fun of me since June bugs don't hurt you. But the part that bothers me is not only are they gross looking but they they fly in a totaly kamikaze style so no matter how much you try to avoid the little fuckers they keep coming after you!

I usually freak out at first when I haven't seen them for a while but once I'm used to their presence I try to kil them Terminator style. I'm talking rolled up news papers, boots, bleach, windex, books, bricks, what have you.

Ew.....June bugs.....

darkangel29 02-26-2006 08:48 AM

Try a flamethrower perhaps Eyes?

grimreaper993 02-26-2006 09:40 AM

I have a phobia of the darkness after doing the Bloody mary thing.

WolfMoon 02-26-2006 09:56 AM

Have you introduced yourself, yet?

Circle V 02-26-2006 03:42 PM

One time --in Bolivia-- my class stayed at one of our (very affluent) classmate's farms for a night. We slept inside the very large, enclosed barbeque area (churrasqueria). Giant swarms of bugs flew around the patio outside, attracted by the lights. A toad that had to have weighed at least 8 pounds was eating them. Inside, we were relatively safe, except that beetles kept raining from the thatched ceiling. It was funny to see how an all-male group reacted to them.

Many restaurant chains, such as Burger King and (temporarily, at least) McDonalds and Dominos, had establishments in Bolivia. One day, I went to Subway with my family for icecream. I ordered a vanilla cone with Oreos. After eating about half of it, I noticed something strange mixed in with the crushed Oreos-- a dead beetle. I poked around a bit, and found quite a few more. It then occured to me that I might have already eaten some of the buggers, since they looked quite a bit like the Oreos. My mom, who knew the owner, told her about it later. The woman's response?

"Don't worry, they're dead. Sometimes we leave the ice-cream tubs open when we spray the ceiling with insecticide."

In other words, don't worry, they're coated with DDT. She didn't even have the decency to give us a refund, or even apologize.

Godslayer Jillian 02-26-2006 04:29 PM

That was god telling you you should have come to Mexico, not Bolivia :p

Godslayer Jillian 02-26-2006 04:30 PM

Yay!!!!! That was my 500th post:D:D:D

*Vomit

Oh my dear God......If that would have happened to me I would have flipped my ever loving lid. I don't even like insects to even touch me but the thought of ingesting them.....ew......

Now I know not to go to Bolivia.

Circle V 02-26-2006 07:03 PM

There are more reasons not to visit Bolivia-- now more than ever. But that's a discussion for the Politics thread.

Google "Evo Morales".

Jane13 02-26-2006 07:37 PM

0.o NEVER EVER EVER WILL I VENTURE TO BOLIVIA! Ev-ar.

I just remembered something- I almost never sleep in my bedroom. When I was kid I was TERRIFIED of my bedroom and always either slep in my parents bed or on the floor in my brother's room. Now I'm not in the room I lived in as a child, but some nights I have what I call "paranoid nights" when I CANNOT fall asleep in my room, so I go to the couch. It's quite pathetic, actually. It even happens on family trips in hotels... I can't stay there more than a few days without having a night when I MUST sleep on the couch.

It made it worse when we had a mouse infestation earlier this winter >.> So freaking gross, and I couldn't bring myself to kill them. The little buggers kept getting caught by the TAIL, so we had to find something to finnish them off... but I couldn't, so I carried them all the way to the back back back of our property, through the snow, and let them go.

I was always afraid I'd find one in my bed one night, because I could hear them in my closets. I was also terrified that someone would here me talking to the mice that I let go... "Go on! This is our house, make your own in the woods! Go find your own mouse-food, my parents have to work for ours!"
