Dimmu...Hey Nick Barker knew the bigger better deal (not to mention Mr. Davey is a royal pain in the ass with an annoying bout of small man syndrome), too bad he didn't stay (I love that teddy bear of a man).
|
Oh yeah... and Dani got fat.
|
both, there both good bands but above all i would say dimmu borgir, there lyrics are really in depth, and CoF 's are somewat all the same, there like all about vampires, dont get me wrong vamps are the shit but come on youve gotta change it up a little.

HELLO RUN-ON! My eyes have been r*ped by a piece of sand paper.
|
Well, I'm deep into the norwegian black metal, and I can honestly say, that Dimmu Borgir totally screwed up for me when they make those annoying bombastic albums since Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. The first two: For All Tid and Stormblast were good however not earblasting like Immortal, but the rest totally sucks. Well, that's just my little opinion...
Quote: ''Thats not good dimmu...well it's good but the earlier albums are better when shagroth was drummer i think......For All Tid and Storm Blast'' I don't think Shagrath has ever been drummer... he played the lead guitars as well as the vocals at the first 2 albums. And for CoF: nah... |
i prefer CRADLE OF FUCKING FILTH!!! sexy dani...though,sadly,xmas has madehimgain a few pounds *runs away crying*
|
Have you ever read an interview with Dani Filth? He doesn't actually take himself seriously... Um. I like the noises they make. But can't stand anyone who takes them seriously.
|
I think they're funny(COF), if I need to smile I just think of Dani singing and can't stop laughing.
|
I think both Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth are both amazing bands, each in their own way.
When I first heard the first Cradle Of Filth album ` The Principle of Evil made Flesh` in 1995, I was blown away !!!. Their excellent debut has classics such as `To Eve the Art of Witchcraft`, `The Forest Whispers my Name` and `The Black Goddess Rises`. If some of their songs became horror movies, they would be a cross between Hammer Horror and the Universal monster series (Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolfman etc), with bits of H.P Lovecraft and Clive Barker thrown in the insanity and tongue in cheek that is Cradle of Filth. Dimmu Borgir are fantastic, I first saw them on the Friday Rock Show when the promo for `Mourning Palace` was shown. Mourning Palace , is still on of my favourite songs (I just love that catchy keyboard lick (its an arpeggio in D minor ) thats the main theme of the song), Enthrone Darkness Triumphant is one of my favourite albums by this band. Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropy is another piece of their musical genius, this album is up there with classics as Slayers `Reign in Blood`, and Morbid Angel`s `Altars of Madness`. |
I do not care much for both bands.
|
I highy dislike both of them. I just can not take them seriously even if I tried. It makes me laugh to see the kids in school wearing their t-shirts because they all have the same facial expresion and seem to be trying to make people be afraid of them.
|
Okay.. well I've seen Cradle in concert approx. five times and Dimmu three. As far as entertainment goes, Cradle has the better show as their career expands so does the stage presence they offer. Dimmu is great musically but made a mistake when they lost Nicolas Barker, (in my opinion) the best drummer in the black/goth metal world.
As to Dani's seriousness.... I actually spent over 2 hours with Nick Barker (went Maiden Shirt shopping with him and drove him around Chicago a while) and then after the CoF show I spent another hour or more with the remainder of the band... (at that time it was Dani, Robin, Stuart, Gian, and Lecter) The guys were down to earth sweet and a little silly I was impressed by all but Dani. He sat in the corner with his entourage ignoring everyone and when I tried to chat with him briefly about the Misfits (supposedly one of his fave bands) and I was brutally snubed. His only redeeming act was asking me to have a good night and take care as he was climbing into his vehicle. Well now that all the somewhat original members are gone and their sound has gone to the generic manson kiddies I've taken a step away. But I still have a soft spot for the Cradle I do love. Btw.. Anyone who thinks Damnation and a Day or any album after is either their first or best album should burn in hell and die. You suck and so do your music tastes. If you have no idea what I mean by 9" red vinyl... sell your collection and go listen to Creed it'll be easier for you. Last, if you have no idea who Gian, Stuart, and Robin are... *sigh* Hey, I hear KoRn has a new album!! Thanks...signed, The Bitch who rode the CoF ride long before you even bought your ticket. |
I agree with Sanctus Dei, Cradle of Filths earlier material is much better, their debut`Principles`is a genre classic !.
About your Cradle of Filth record (the 9" red vinyl), is it a single, or an E.P and which release is it (Is it Bitter Suites) ?. |
Nope. Danny boy is a complete asshole. I remember meeting him or watching him with his fans I should say, though I did not speak to him. I saw him but that was it and Sanctus is quite correct. I will stake my name on it.
I do not like either but I am going with Dimmu. Even though still I do not care for them. |
I think It's weird that CoF has kept changing their band members. I've only got Nymphetamine but I think it's pretty good apart from a couple of tracks. What do you think of Cruelty and the Beast? I've been trying to get that for ages.
|
I cant really choose one because i have a cd that i made that has both of them on it one after the other so i like them both equally.
|
Equally? C'mon, they can't HEAR you... who's da fave? *poke, poke*

Listen to some Darkthrone, Burzum, Leviathan, Weakling, Beatrik, Make a Change... Kill Yourself, or any other really bleak and depressive black metal band, and tell me an expensive production job wouldn't strip away at least fifty percent of the evil atmosphere. That's part of the appeal of aggressive and/or nihilistic music (of any kind, really); It doesn't compromise and pander to the general public perception of what "good sound" is. |
I have three words to say: Cradle! Cradle! Cradle!
On a more in depth note: I absolutely love the Cradle sound. Yes, taking them seriously will leave you looking like a complete tool but the sound they produce is just awesome. Favourite song would be An Enemy Led the Tempest from the Damnation and a Day album. |

Well said Pitseleh, that`s just what I was going to say!. |
I'd have to go with Dimmu. I like Cradle but Dani's high pitched voice grates on my nerves.
|
COF, I know this is so mainstream, but actually woke me up. I was banished to a catholic school for the first 8 years of my education, and through the "SIN FILTER" I was behind, Marilyn Manson was THE hardest thing out there in all our minds. So, naturally, I went out and tried to buy every Manson album I could find. I listened to them religiously, and thought I was a badass. Then, one night I was watching MTV of all things and pounding vodka and mountain dew (my fav drink), and Nymphetamine came on head bangers ball. I fell in love, drunk and stumbling as I rushed my computer to download everything I could about this band. I had listened to Slipknot and Mudvayne and Mushroomhead, but none of that is close to the seizure of excitement that crawled through me when I saw that video. I stumbled on Dimmu about 4 months ago by accident, [had a music video in the special features of Alone in the Dark (which if you see I will slowly cut your throat with a rusty spoon)], and although I have to give credit and respect to Dimmu because I could not do what they do, COF will hold a special place in whats left of my heart for waking me up and showing me what and incredible pussy I was up until that point. The lyrics of the songs are perfect pleasure poetry and the deliverance of it in the screech growl of Danni is amazing. The drummer and guitarists are amazing and must bleed speed or battery acid or something to get those beats out of them. Cradle of Filth is incredible.

I reccomend you buy the first three albums as their earlier stuff is amazing... For more info (click here) and here |
I am a fan of Cradle Of Filth but like Dimmu Borgir also
|
Cradle of Filth, or Dimmu Borgir.
Such a tough question. Answer: Dimmu Borgir I like some of Cradle of Filth's older stuff, like Bitter Suites to Succubi, and I like their newest (TMK) Nymphetamine. With that said, Death Cult Armageddon with Progenies of The Great Apocalypse, blew my mind. |
Diimu, but even more than them, Marduk. I haven't listened to black metal in so long...
|
I can't stand either, COF in particular. They just bring back bad memories of a poser ex of mine.
|
Old Dimmu Borgir. Their newer stuff is shit. The same applys to new COF.
|
Out of the 2 bands mentioned. Its Cradle of Filth for me

No hun read my intro im a 33 year old woman who likes rock music, like my intro says if you dont beleive me i cant do anything about that |
I'm 31, and like rock (I really hate such a blanket term) music too. What I don't like is overdramatic, trying too hard to be 'hard core', and dressing up to make the teen girls want my cock music. I'm sure both these bands had their hay day, and I admit to having exactly two CoF songs on a mix CD - which are usually skipped unless I'm in the mood for angry white noise.
And I really don't think it is very nice to call horrorgirl a moron in one thread, and a Hun in another. May she smite you with boiling olive oil. |

Tis kind of confusing. "gawth teen" were in horrorgirl's post, so I didn't know to which word Vampyre was referring.
|
I prefer Dimmu's earlier albums, but I'm not really a huge fan of either.
|
I love Dimmu Borgir. They use a lot of instruments fit for an orchestra.
|
Dimmu Borgir without a doubt.
The fact that Cradle of Filth is the best selling black metal band scares me. |
