Listening to the "Brave Sir Robin" part of Monty Python. I've watched it four times today thanks to my sister, but I love it so much I don't really care.

Simple Plan - "Shut Up"

TheBloodEternity 10-05-2008 08:29 PM

Are you fucking serious???

~Angel_Of_Darkness~ 10-05-2008 08:58 PM

Yup. I'd never heard it before and I read the lyrics for some reason and found them good. So I listened to it. I listen to what I want. Does that bother you? :-/

TheBloodEternity 10-05-2008 09:06 PM

I just find it odd that anyone above 12 could possibly stand them, and much less why they would stumble onto a gothic/goth/what have you site.

~Angel_Of_Darkness~ 10-05-2008 09:22 PM

I dunno, I liked them when they first came out. And that was some time ago. I stopped listening to them after their second single. I listen to quite a wide array of music, and won't stick to one genre just cos a lot of people think it is unconventional not to. As for the 'stumbling on a gothic/goth/what have you' site.....: Does it matter? The music someone listens to doesn't exactly define who they are, unless they really mean it to.

TheBloodEternity 10-05-2008 09:29 PM

Hell, I'm all over the place. There's nothing unconventional about just listening to whatever you want. Simple Plan just sucks.

Also you can't be goth if you don't listen to goth rock.
A lot of people on here don't listen to goth rock, but they don't claim to be that. But judging by your screen name, you probably fancy yourself to be.

~Angel_Of_Darkness~ 10-05-2008 09:38 PM

Well ok. Whoever sucks is your opinion. I respect that.

But no, I don't fancy myself anything. My screen name is the regretful result of a very idiotic phase I was going through in '05. But I'm not allowed to change it just cos of stuff like that, so I'm stuck with it.

But I also don't think the only goths are people who listen to goth rock tho.

Mmmm, I'm going to have to disagree with that comment. Goth music covers a large array of styles, with "goth rock" being only one of them. And even if you mean all goth music in general, I still disagree with the statement. Listing to a specific type of music is only an adopted extension of who one is, not a determining factor. At least, in the majority of cases.

I guess I mean all goth music in general, if I get what you mean by that. Also, the gothic subculture is based entirely off of gothic rock and the fashion adopted by the bands. Being "goth" isn't a determining factor of who one is anyways.

~Angel_Of_Darkness~ 10-05-2008 10:01 PM

What about people who consider 'goth' to be something completely separate from what it is originally based on? I've met people considering 'gothic' to be a sort of tribute to the old Victorian days, with a twist on celebrating the dark and mysterious. They claim that the 'goth' that originated from music is something else entirely. And I've met even others who think of it as a celebration of the macabre and all things scorned by typical society.

TheBloodEternity 10-05-2008 10:06 PM

Gothic isn't a tribute to Victorian times, people then would find the macabre and what have you to be entirely disgusting. Not to mention the fact that black was for mourning, and if you walked around in black all the time and no one had recently passed away, people would think you were a nutjob.
Most people who think that it's a celebration of things scorned by typical society *usually* have no clue what they're talking about, and would draw a blank upon any mention of Peter Murphy, Rozz Williams, or Andrew Eldritch. And those who do know of goth rock but still insist that they can give goth new meaning really should find a new name for their "darkness" because goth/gothic already has about 5 meanings and enough confusion as it is.

~Angel_Of_Darkness~ 10-05-2008 10:24 PM

True. I don't even bother when people try to drag me into debates on what 'goth' really is. It is way too tiring. 'Goth' also means a lot of different things to different people. I think it should be just left that way. As long as they don't go around saying, "I am so goth and you're not. I'm the coolest." Or something like that. You probably know exactly what I mean anyway.

TheBloodEternity 10-05-2008 10:30 PM

Goth is a word, it has definite meanings. It's not subjective. At least not anymore subjective than words like house, computer, or dog.

Yes you're right. But I think you get my point.
