I could understand it if I had been listening to music in class, but I was doing it on my own time. |

They're banned at my school, along with phones which is annoying as hell. |
I don't think the teacher meant offensive as in it was subversive or controversial music.
I think he just wants you to listen to better music. Voltaire sucks. |

If something is not banned, and I asked the principle and it's not, then I have every right to have it in school. |

They don't have to formally ban something for it to be taken away. I'm pretty sure no one said you couldn't ride a horse through the hallways, but you can't do that. |
In my school, mp3 players are prohibited during school hours.
Regardless, stupid as the circumstances may be, perhaps you should just not listen to music for a while and let things die down? Or listen to instrumental music, with no lyrics present to even be considered offensive? On a tangent, John Keats is my favorite poet. |
That is absolutely CRAZY!!!! Ironically, your "ethics" teacher has no ethics!
They can't tell you what to listen to in private as far as I know. But thanks for listening to my music. I'm really glad you enjoy it Voltaire |
Perhaps her ethics teacher has transcended human comprehension of ethics and realizes that preventing people from listening to anything deemed "gothic" is a moral imperative... :P

^Good thing it was an mp3 player and not a cd player, and good thing its not banned at her school since it was that kind of music he was agaisnt, not the player itself.

I'm sure he would have taken it regardless of what it was. My theory is he just added that it was offensive to further justify his actions. Don't get me wrong. It sucks that this happened but he has the authority to do what he did. |
Is it still ok to listen to Anal Cunt in school?

Guys, I don't think you've been listening. I asked the principal, and he said it was fine for me to listen to my iPod during my lunch break, as long as I don't play it so others can hear. You can contradict me all you like, but it doesn't change the fact that I wasn't breaking the rules.
|
I'm hearin' ya, and I understand why you're pissed.
At the same time, if it keeps causing tension between you and a teacher, the principal might just ban all music players. |

Haha, sorry, always wanted to say that. Glad you can see my point of view and, uh, nice to meet you. Now that I've had my embarassing fangirl moment, I think I'll absent myself so I can go and quietly have a heart attack somewhere. |
From what I can tell it is actually Voltaire, woooooooot woooot. Also I've never had that sort of problem but for years my school has been ridiculously strict with Ipods and cellphones. I think they would be less angered by someone with a machine gun...
|
I had similar problems in highschool. Teachers did not like me listening to what I wanted to. Some were even a little worried by it, which is pathetic. But at university, it's fine. I can put my speakers on loud in my room and my flat mates don't give a shit; even though they like to listen to other genres
|
XD I find this highly ridiculous. As if they'd check everyone's MP3 players Lol.

Well, it's unfortunate about the scratch, and this teacher was obviously out of line. There are rules even teachers must follow, in spite of what some of them believe, and unless ipods or similar devices are specifically banned at the school, a teacher has no right to confiscate them. Especially if other students are allowed to listen to the music of their choice uninterrupted.
Teachers are there to teach and to enforce school policy. Additionally, if he doesn't behave like this with all of his students, I'd almost say this qualifies as harassment the way you've described it. |
What sort of school is it.
