Hey Skarekro...ever go to Utopia?
|
Nice name, Skarekro. Reminds me of a song I listened to a few minutes ago.
Everything I know about Australia can be summed up in two words: Crocodile Dundee. Please excuse me if the image that comes to mind when I think of you is Crocodile Dundee wearing all black and eyeliner-- come to think of it, that's kinda cool... |
There's more to Australia than Crocodiles!
|
Of course. I just don't know what the rest is.
Excuse me, but I'm going to go buy a Gothic Crocodile Dundee outfit. |
i agree with xnguela and tall one, and also have some thoughts.
first off, what the hell's with all the confusing of goth with rock?? people, please try to have some background knowledge of the words you're using before attempting to construct sentences!! at least then your odds are better of making others at least think you know what the fuck you're about. seriously, this perturbs me. i grew up with a lot of old school goth people, back before the subculture became its own antithesis. reminds me of punk as well.. and speaking of which, punk is another tragic example of the idea becoming the institution. both were a means by which people could segregate themselves from the mainstream of rock, thereby having freedom to do whatever and be whatever they wanted. the 'style' of punk was actually an anti-style, people making themselves look as ridiculous as possible to give the finger to the idea of fashion. what do we see now? punk as a mainstream fashion! when once people did it to purposefully NOT be 'cool', now people do it to BE cool! same way with goth! it was just about people not liking what they saw in the world around, and so they did something different. so punks and goths, while different subcultures [or counter-cultures, at the time] had some of the same basic ideas, they just went about employing said ideas in different forms. one of those common ideas: METAL SUCKS. metal is not goth, or punk, it was the mainstream of the late 70's through 80's that both punks and goths were disgusted with. you want goth? listen to joy division. you want a metal makeover on vh1? you want hot topic? slit your own throat and stop giving me a bad name. in conclusion, i say that if you have opinions and individuality on any level, it will come out in the way you carry yourself, whether that be your attitude, clothes, things you say, people you surround yourself with, books you read, etc. so stop worrying so much. "you're so vain, i bet you think this song is about you" |
Help
okay all of the ideas you have are like really right but the make up just do some eye liner anything past that is a little weird for guys o and some fingernail polish if u like that always ads a little gay gothic punk straight look
|
"Gay gothic punk straight look?"
Try not to type exactly what you think as you think it. It has a bad way of letting people know how stupid you really are. If you must do so, at least go back and check for grammar, spelling, and content. Also... Never. Say. LIKE. ...Unless it actually makes sense in the context, of course. |

i have went on that site before..but this time i left a message...they were right about one little detail they mention that "It is very important that you be able to make decisions about your own look. You can not depend on other people to tell you how to dress." so they are stupid because they are trying to make some silly people that don't know that they are fooling about do what they say and all that! You should do what you want, dress whatever way you want, listen to what the hell you like and so on and so forth!

Woah........ cute Mort.

Personally I dress however I like. Most of the time when I'm not working I'll wear jeans because they're so gosh-darn comfy. If I'm going out somewhere that's with some friends I'll wear my oh-so-pretty velvet and lace waistcoat and a black skirt with a white petticoat underneath. And these black converses with pink trim. Oh gosh, I love converse.
Basically, wear what you feel comfortable in. Here, go to gothic-charm-school.com because in addition to lessons on ediquette, there are quite a few lessons on dressing appropriate for Gothdom. |
Sorry to join the thread so late.

Now I’m not saying I’m different, just don’t follow the ‘norms’ of Chinese or Asian culture; you know all the looking approachable, professional and keeping face-value shit! For the whole of 2004, I was living in South-East Asia (Hong Kong, south China) and I had many problems been accepted into society. I don’t know about you guys’n’gals, but I get bored real quick. Apparently my constant change in visual appearance caused a slight stir, local law enforcers would pull you aside and give you the third degree and for what? Because you don’t fit in their ‘ideal’ persona, it’s seems that people there have a form of ‘utopia’ that applies to everyone. If you don’t fit, then you can’t be accepted, no two ways about it. So for me, if I had too, I would have no problems following the guides set out by the many “Andrew Eldritch’s“ of g.net members, they’re absolutely true in one way or another; it’s their perfect, not necessary yours. Thought I would modify them and make it my own. Nowadays I create my own style, I’ve learnt to think that interpersonal labelling is a creation of other people, how they think. What label they like to donate isn’t my problem, it’s theirs. Life is very short, blink and it’s gone. Express your feelings, wear and do what every feels great to you. Worry less about how others portray you; they should be looking at your inner person not your extension. As far as many western and modern societies are concerned, the cloths we wear or our outer skin is simply a visual interpretation of our inner feelings, don’t you think? Just goes to show that there are a lot of narrow-minded people out there, even in our cities, maybe your neighbour even. Does it make sense? |
I'm sure you've heard it many times before, but wear what you want. It wouldn't matter if you wore a flannel shirt and pink polka-dotted pants. That wouldn't change what's inside you. You'd still be goth, my friend. But, it is very evident that, if you want people to "know" that you're goth, you should probably stick to black, red, and other darkish colors. I, myself prefer looking like a walking deathtrap, armed to the teeth with spikes, chains, and atheist slogans. But just wear what ever you feel like wearing.

it anyways.... Haaaaa man, what sould I wear to look like a goth?, ALL BLACK AND DO I LOOK LIKE A GOTH ENOUGH.... ???/ Que estupido dos santo..... HEY I WARE PINK AND YELLOW AND I'M A GIRLY GIRL, and I'm not saying that I feel a goth or what nah, i just follow what i want, what i feel to do today, I like this it doesnt mean that I have to follow step by step, but if what you want is SHOW OFF, well that is a different story though. For too many young adolescents all this is just a fashion trend and that is when they tend to copy what they dont really feel. Just lets wear all black bc is cool and it is a way to catch attention. Sometimes clothes does not reflect what you really like, some people like it that way and those people are the true follower sometimes... (please note that I'm not trying to insult anybody, all this is just my opinion) Nati |

[PREACHY SPEECH] [PREACHY SPEECH] Not to call ya out but that was about as obvious of a repeat of Neo's answer as there could be, with one exception... Your placing stereo-type with the whole "black, red, darkish color thing." not to mention suggesting a person "wear those colors to basically prove to the public "I am Goth"", is just shy of asinine. Stick with the "do what's comfortable" message doll and cut it there the rest is up to the individual. I do think you should offer up what you do personally to make yourself feel goth in a fashion sense, that could help a foundling to find his/her own ground just try not to direct in such a matter of fact kind of way.
