One of my favourite tracks off his first opus `Yngwie Malmsteens Rising Force` which introduced us to Yngwies Neo-classical vituosity, as Joe Satriani once said ... `Thank god for Yngwie` !!!.

He's an amazing guitarist, but I really find him overrated, and a bit of a snob. I listen to his work, and just find it kind of soulless, it has no feeling in it whatsoever. Kind of sad that that much talent is wasted on a shredder, to be honest. Plus, there's shredders with just as much skill, so I don't feel like I'm missing much not listening to Malmsteen.

I know, Malmsteen after a while is annoying... but he like playing that way... anyway I told I began playing for him, later I discovered a lot of other guitarists...

People said the same of Paganini in the 19th century, too fast and to many notes, but I have to disagree with you about him being souless, Yngwie has always considered himself a songwriter (he is a multi instrumentalist) rather than a just another shredder !!!. I really reccomend you listen to his early stuff, especially `Icarus Dream Suite` from his first album (a beautiful piece of music). This at the time was a breath of fresh air at a time when most guitar players were still emulating Eddie Van Halen (who was another visionary player who took guitar playing another step) with his unique neo-classical style which is heavily influenced from the Baroque period of music and early classical !!!.

I love classical music and it is a huge inspiration to me as well as various types of rock and metal music, so I think thats why some of Yngwies music appeals to me so much !!!.

Portrait of sanity, I was wondering who your favourite guitar players were ? :)

Listening to ...

Joe Satriani `Ice-9`
