Therion - Wine Of Aluqah (Vovin) |
"Denouncement" from As one aflame laid bare by desire by black tape for a blue girl.
"Take my flesh, leave me with my fallacies and lies. Take everything I've ever wanted, how can I become that which I am not? I no longer believe the words I've convinced you of. and maybe it's worse to remember than to forget and maybe it's better to desire than to achieve and maybe it's worse not to taste of forbidden fruit and maybe it's better to know than to believe and sometimes it's worse to feel alive than to feel dead I crumble into successive frames. I over-analyze every thought. I stand before the crowd stripped bare, faced by my inconsistency. I await their judgement in comparison to my ideal. How can I ever be...how can I be everything that I hope to be?" |

Pitseleh-you've mentioned Xiu Xiu and Jesu (along with the godliness of Justin Broadrick....though you forgot to point out that he was also the founder of Napalm Death and Head Of David, you mentioned Godflesh). Can I just shake your digital hand?
And also mention that you should listen to more Earth....and Teen Cthulhu (who are no longer around....R.I.P.).....and Doomsday:1999.....and Bloodhag..... speaking of which, I'm listening to Bloodhag. First, "Philip K Dick" Philip K. Dick "Nothing' s ever the way it looks! The K is for kickin' your ass with great books! Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch Genius! Paranoid lunatic! Lies, Incorporated - Valis and Ubik You got to stay the fuck back from Philip K. Dick! Though he wrote some crap to pay the rent Anyone could see his mind was bent Everything is a lie. Reality is a sham. Am I a Replicant? I don't know who the fuck I am!" and now it's "J.R.R. Tolkien" "Who wrote the Hobbit, Two Towers and Return of the King? J.R.R. Tolkein! Who wants Rankin/Bass's ass in a sling? J.R.R. Tolkein! The only fantasy I'd ever read to my children But not The Simarillion! Who wants to kill Ralph Bakshi for the Lord of the Rings? J.R.R. Tolkein!" and now it's "Harlan Ellison" "Write in a store window, the girls watch your lobes flex Still, no one could guess what you would write next Like you might write just t oread your own name Your early work made good TV game Still, no one could top you at your short fiction No one could stop your dangerous visions We wrote this song don't let it go to your head You'd like it more if your name's all we said Harlan, Harlan, Ellison! Harlan, Harlan, Ellison! A lot of people called you a prick Maybe you talked a little shit 'bout Philip K. Dick Mephisto In Onyx. Phoenix Without Ashes. Couldn't write a real novel to save your ass!" |
*Digital handshake*
Yeah, Loy - I forgot the Napalm Death connection. Not that into grind, but they're just such bastards it's impossible not to dig it. I like my metal best when it's sloooow... o))) Those other bands, I've had on the radar, but not been able to procure records of. Alas, where I live now there are no indie- or metal- record-stores. But I'll check 'em out, thanks. Right now I'm listening to Autolux's Future Perfect album. The song is Sugarless. A gorgeous piece of noise-pop cake with a shoegazer guitar-icing. They're from LA apparently. |
By the way, The lyrics to Bloodhag's Philip K. Dick, and the rest? Fucking funny.

As for U2 covering someone, I dig the version they did in the 80's for the aussie public of "Everlasting Love", and I dig their version of Gershwin's "Night And Day", as featured on Red, Hot and Blue, the aids benefit album/documentary. It's as hungry and desperate as the lyrics it describes. What else from the same album? Neneh Cherry's "I Got You Under My Skin" (now THERE'S a different meaning than the lyrics intended). Hummmmm..... Anyone fancy a covers thread? . |
