The Ungothiest Store you Shop At

Name the store(s) that you shop at that are considered "ungoth."

Wal-Mart is mine.

L'Oiseau Noir 06-04-2008 03:32 PM

Wal-Mart, Target, and occasionally Macy's or Boscovs for me. It all depends, really, on what I happen to pass, and if I like it. (Like at Target, I found a really cute frilly, piratey shirt in both creme and black).

Underwater Ophelia 06-04-2008 05:03 PM

Pacsun.
Where I work.

badteccy 06-04-2008 05:05 PM

H&M, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, thrift stores, Wal-Mart, Kohls, Hot Topic.

Crying_Crimson_Tears 06-04-2008 05:07 PM

I shop at Hot Topic too. :/

Cicero 06-04-2008 05:39 PM

I don't really shop at goth shops except to buy Manic Panic and Special Effects hairdye.

Thus my answers are: Opshops (thrift stores), Target, Cotton On, Zara, Top Shop, MNG, other random 'mainstream' shops around the place (particularly Asian ones, for the small sizes), and fabric stores like Spotlight for making my own shit.

Tea and Cake or Death 06-04-2008 05:58 PM

walmart. Usually the bulk of my clothes shopping takes place in thrift stores or online.

TopHaggardDoll 06-04-2008 11:01 PM

Pffft! I shop everywhere. Not really an issue as to where I get clothes from, it's all good.

Jaye Jang 06-04-2008 11:16 PM

Wal-Mart, Walgreen's, anything Wal, Target, Hot Topic (okay so I confess), Spencer's, and the coolest Cost Plus World Market and 10,000 Villages.

gothicusmaximus 06-05-2008 12:06 AM

I regularly wear a belt that was originally purchased at Hot Topic, though I can't really be considered to have bought it, per se, as it was given to me by a friend and I am no poorer for owning it.
I imagine this answer is less than satisfactory, but they don't call me Gothicus Maximus for nothing.

Pantherlette086 06-05-2008 11:05 AM

I shop at Walmart and Kmart sometimes.

Lux Interior Ate My Brain 06-05-2008 08:57 PM

Old Navy, Walmart, and Macy's.
And occasionally, Hottopic and Claire's, for little accessories, but not often because their prices are completely outrageous.
Six dollars for a pack of four rubber bracelets?! Oh hell no.

Moni-que 06-06-2008 02:30 PM

walmart looks like the popular answer here.

I'm guilty. :(

TheBloodEternity 06-06-2008 02:35 PM

I have a few things from Claire's and hot topic, but they're all either gifts or from a year ago. I still shop at Hot Topic for body jewelry though, there are several places online with a much better selection but I have no way of paying online. 3 of my plain black undershirt/cami/tanks are actually from Forever 21 (it was like 5 shirts for 5 dollars or something so I went in to buy some.....)

I'm also guilty of Spencers and Old Navy, occasionally.

I never really shop at Wal-Mart, but I found a nice fishnet swimsuit there....

ForgetThisLostLenore 06-06-2008 04:42 PM

I get a lot from Penny's, Kohls, Target, and random stores in my crap mall which I sadly say includes Hot Topic. I get my Hawaiian shirts from Wal-Mart, and then I make the rest of my stuff. Yay for DIY!

Paigeybobert 06-06-2008 05:05 PM

Chevron? .

stranger 06-07-2008 06:21 AM

I have basically never bought anything from any 'goth shop' with the exceptions of some white foundation (I mix it with my regular foundation to make it lighter as my skin is kind of pale) and some red eyeshadow. And a corset I ordered from Heavy Red. Basically all my clothes come from thrift stores. I have no other certain store that I visit regularly to buy clothes.
Goth shops are shit anyway. I have visited some and most of the clothes I saw looked stupid. There were some nice corsets and shoes though...

Jaye Jang 06-07-2008 08:51 AM

Wow. Stranger, you're from Estonia? How cool is that! I shop at 10,000 Villages and Cost Plus World Market (both of which are discount world shops) and they sell stuff from Estonia, but I've never actually been there.

Linen 06-17-2008 06:49 PM

Target, Kohl's, Old Navy... lol. Yeah they have some great sales, and I find it easy to get cheap cargos, skirts, blouses, and tees, as well as adorable shoes. Kohl's is especially awesome for some gothy "costume" jewelry - wait for the sales! I've bought quite a few necklaces and earrings from there & I've had tons of compliments on them.

Lolly PopMuzik 06-17-2008 07:57 PM

Does it matter where I shop is up to goth scratch or not? It's mainly thrift stores and department store sales for me, less wear and tear on the wallet especially where the thrift store sales are concerned.

Not to mention that most of the goth stores I see online have a bad ratio of nice stuff to fugly overpriced bullshit.

KontanKarite 06-17-2008 08:41 PM

Wal-Mart... rarely. I don't like it though. I'm going to have to figure out an alternative to Walmart. They are some underhanded, coercive, and dishonest bitches.

Personally, I just don't like it because the people are always moody, it's hell to get any assistance with anything, and they always seem to believe that my mom and I are out to to steal dog food and toilet paper.

Clockwork 06-17-2008 08:49 PM

Safeway food & drugs, where I buy my groceries.

um...Target? They are a bit less evil as they actually pay their employees livable wages and they actually donate something like 5% of their profits to charitable causes, also customer service is a good bit better than you will find at Walmart...that and they have better looking, somewhat higher quality clothing

KontanKarite 06-17-2008 11:18 PM

Just a small bit as to why I don't really like shopping Wal-Mart. Same goes for Hobby Lobby. The owner of Hobby Lobby takes pride and joy out of getting letters from foreign children thanking him for offering them a job. o_0

twink 06-18-2008 09:16 AM

Trader Joe's, Borders and Target.

Solumina 06-18-2008 11:19 AM

Yeah there is a reason why some people call Wal-Mart the Evil Empire, I would much rather spend twice as much to get the same thing somewhere else, thankfully I don't have to as I normally go to Costco and pay just a little bit more for twice as much stuff

I love Trader Joes, their store brand stuff is dirt cheap and is of fantastic quality. That and all of their employees love working there which is generally a good sign that they are not an evil company

Jezabeth 06-19-2008 05:48 PM

Walgreen's. This is wear i buy all my makeup.

RE: Wal-Mart Customer Service...

There actually are quite a few Wal-Mart associates who are friendly. However, keep in mind that (from what I've heard from friends who used to work there), the upper management treat their cashiers & lower-level associates like crap. If you were treated like just another number to help your company make money, would you want to go out of your way to be pleasant to customers? Probably not. That's not to say that it's OK to treat customers badly for no reason, but try to have a little empathy for the people who work there. They are (for the most part) paid horrible wages & treated like crap.

And trust me, I know how it is. I have worked in various customer service positions since I was a teenager. When I worked for an employer who seemed to actually care about me (including now), I was much more likely to pass on that friendliness and care to the customers.

Totally the opposite of what I do. I don't even know any goth shops. My wardrobe isn't very goth. I tried it, but it's too much effort and makeup is a pain in my ass. Anyway, I like vintage shops. Between them, the hardcore record store, and department stores, they make up half of my shopping. The rest is online at places like Amazon.com. I dislike paying more for something if I don't have to. I make minimum fuck wage and have tuition to pay.
As for the Walmart mistreating it's employees: Quit, strike, or shut up. Whichever they choose, I'm still buying their dirt cheap products.

cradle 06-20-2008 08:31 AM

Hollister.
I know, I'm a disgrace.

AngelikDemonik 06-20-2008 02:02 PM

Target, Value World (a thrift store), and any of the girly stores at the mall. I am very good at mixing, matching, and cutting things up to my liking.

Toy Killer 06-21-2008 11:23 AM

Mostly thrift for me, I did buy a black jean jacket from The Gap(? Old Navy? I dunno, some place I felt very out of place in...) and promptly burnt the logo out and replaced it with an Invader Zim patch.

Ashlyea 06-21-2008 12:36 PM

Same here on the thrift stores. Though I do go to the Dollar Tree, Walmart, and even Gordman's. There can be some nice stuff at Gordman's. Plus, I found a nice earthy smelling candle at the Dollar Tree. :).

shogem 06-21-2008 01:23 PM

Several mall shops like Anchor Blue and Sears tend to have the occasional gem and nice find. Plus, Sears tends to have stretch jeans that fit my bum. Mervyn's has some nice tops, too.

Other than that, Target and online shops are where I stake my claim.

Agent17 06-21-2008 04:44 PM

I try to avoid Walmart at all costs.

It's too bad the nearest clothing store is over 60 miles away from me.

I can't even buy socks in my own town. :'(

Underwater Ophelia 06-21-2008 07:44 PM

How is that even possible?
Where do you live?

Solumina 06-21-2008 07:57 PM

Wow, I thought I lived in the middle of nowhere and I only have to go about 25 miles

Same. I really dislike that place.

Serephurus 06-23-2008 12:41 PM

Hollister
Aeropostale
American Eagle
Hot Topic (Joking!)

I used to be preppy but became gothic for fun. Prep is too... plain. Gothic is fun and looks cool.

Solumina 06-23-2008 01:25 PM

...Where the fuck do these asshats keep coming from?

Anguelon 06-24-2008 04:06 PM

Claire's...u'll be surprised with what u find there...

GothicChristian 06-24-2008 09:31 PM

Claire's is awesome, I've been known to wander into random stores, the three that tend to give whomever I am with a shock are American Eagle, Hollister, and Rave. I've found a few nice things there that I've managed to make people buy for me.

I've been to Hot Topic a few times, but I only buy anime T's and the odd necklace there, and only if they are on clearance. I'm too poor to afford it otherwise.

Let's see, I also shop at Walmart, Thrift Stores, Yard/Garage sells, Bells Outlet, Ross, and JC Penny's. I think that's it.

Tristanna 06-24-2008 09:37 PM

hmm Id say Ikea :)

ionic_angel 06-24-2008 11:55 PM

Goth stores? I never go to "goth" stores. I assemble my stuff from things friends make for me and regular clothing I buy here and there.

Technowitch 06-25-2008 04:18 AM

Mostly Wal-Mart. There aren't a lot of thrift shops in my town--just Plato's Closet, which only takes in name brand, mainstream clothing--and I believe in shopping cheap. I've picked up some really good, cheap stuff there, mostly jeans, make-up and surprisingly workable stompy combat boots. I also shop at Ross, Belk's (found the most awesome lace skirt ever there for $5), and Sears.

Hot Topic's pretty much only good for hair dye, clearance-rack band shirts, and Tim Burton merchandise. The employees at the shop near where I live are pretty cool, though, so I hang out there sometimes.

I Am Great. 06-25-2008 04:26 AM

I love Plato's closet. Are you from Michigan?
