MEGA THREAD for Cats

Here's a thread for us all to discuss anything and everything relating to cats, including:
  • Favourite cat breeds
  • Cats that you or someone else owns
  • Ways to care for a cat
  • Cat mating
  • Anything else relating to these adorable felines =^^=

To start off the thread, I own a tortoiseshell shorthair cat named Turnip. She's turning 11 in 3 months.

When I move out of my parent's house and live in an apartment of my own, I'm planning to get a munchkin cat. For those of you who don't know what munchkin cats look like, they have abnormally short legs, like this one:
http://lengslog.files.wordpress.com/...4/munchkin.jpg
Seems like the ideal indoor cat. :D

I have 5 Persian cats and a Black cat and they rock !!!. :)

Ahh! It's like a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, but a cat!

A word of warning about abnormally short legged quadrupeds: going up and down stairs puts extra pressure on their spines and they can end up with expensive back problems. My family's Corgi ended up with an ulcerated disc in his spine and the surgery to fix it cost thousands of dollars.

Anyway, I love cats but can't keep any right now.

Saya 09-19-2008 09:29 PM

Yay! I can talk about my kitties!

This is my current cat, Lucy: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ater/lucy2.jpg
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...water/lucy.jpg

My roommate picked her up from the SPCA, she was left at the doorstep in a box with her kittens. She was skinny as a rake when we got her, and she didn't like being held or being petted for the longest time, we think she might have been abused :( but she's coming around now, she loves being petted but she doesn't like cuddling. She seems to get bored easily since we keep her inside, we're THINKING about getting another one, one because we love cats and two because we're not always home and it would be good for her to have company, but two cats in an apartment might be a bit much.....and I'd like to get a adult boy cat, I dunno how'd they get along....

And this is the cat I had since I was little, he died four years ago:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ater/Chang.jpg

He crawled up inside a van and got cut up by the fanbelt, he had to get several surgeries on his face, his leg and later had to have his ear removed. That was five years before he died, he was fat for a siamnese and had a heart attack one night. :( I miss him, he'd follow me around everywhere and cry if I was out of sight.

Deadmanwalking_05 09-19-2008 09:57 PM

Before things went down the tubes with E.C. I gave her enough money to buy a Kitten, the one she ended up with was a Maine-coon Mix,her name was Eve,she was a smart little Kitty, and cute as all get out (Sorry but I don't have any pics)

MegearaErotica 09-19-2008 10:08 PM

I don't have any pictures but I have one old fat manx cat and one young fat tabby. Both are males and are at this moment annoying me by swatting at my legs, which I accidentally spilled catnip on. It's the unholy time of 12:50 and I'm getting really cranky.

Minyaliel 09-20-2008 02:43 AM

Awww, cats... *miss my dear Rafael, who stayed behind with my family when I moved*

We used to be breeders of Persian white shaded silver longhairs and exotics. I really miss them now that I´m down here. I´ll see if I can dig up a picture of Rafael, who´s the male that we kept after realising our small apartment just wasn´t functional as a kitty nurse central.

bleedingheart344 09-20-2008 02:55 AM

Ich habe drei katzen, ein tiger, und einen schwarzen katze. Sie heissen Smokey und Socrates.

roserougesang 09-20-2008 03:00 AM

Because Tyler is defiently not typing in English, I guess I'll translate. ^_^

"I have two cats, a tabby, and a black cat. They are named Smokey and Socrates"

*lightly smacks bleedingheart344*

Minyaliel 09-20-2008 03:02 AM

Heeey... wait a sec. Are you guys German?

Geoluhread 09-20-2008 03:08 AM

There is a thread called cats, and i asked this question but no one answered

Is it normal for a kitten's eyes to water so much? Feels like it's crying sometimes

Nope, bleedingheart344 knows fluent German though, and I only know a wee bit. I was talking to him on MSN and demanded a translation so other people can understand his ramblings. ^^

crucifix 09-20-2008 04:51 AM

I like cats so much better than dogs. Dogs just seem, well, so stupid. Whereas cats tend to have a very nice attitude, IMO.

$haDe 09-20-2008 05:10 AM

I am cat.

Meow meow!! =^w^= < That was a famous emotion of cat face in my country.

lol

Ah, okay. =)

MegearaErotica 09-20-2008 09:50 AM

I now have a happier attitude towards my cats as the catnip has worn off and I am fully awake. My kitties are so cute. My manx is 16 years old (I know, it's shocking but we have the record to prove it) and my tabby is 11. Both are male, and neutered... ouch... and every morning I wake up with a fluffy orange turban curled around my head purring.

Corpsey 09-20-2008 03:34 PM

I had an adorable cat called Hobo, who was the cutest tabby imaginable. White paws, white chest, white face a big black stripe down his spine with grey and black stripes shooting off there. I'll see if I can find pictures of him but we don't have him anymore; although I'm trying to convince my mother to take him back now that they've settled.

I miss him. :( He hada great purring engine that he used only for me. :D

Apathy's_Child 09-20-2008 03:48 PM

Some fucker decapitated my cat. I just found her body, minus the head. They probably took the head as some kind of fucked up wall decoration. I'd love to know who did it - I think they could persuade me to break with my principles about violence.

*screams* Why would anyone do that? Poor, poor little kitty.

Because some people need to shit on something defenseless in order to validate their worthless existence, and don't have the stones to do it to anything which might stand a chance in a fair fight. I know I'll never find out who it was, but I've had many satisfying fantasies involving pain heaped upon those involved.

Holy fuck reading that made me feel sick :(. That's seriously the most awful cat-loss story I've ever heard.

I'll write about my 6 cats some other time. It'll take me a while to type it, I have waaaaay too much to say about them (crazy cat lady in the making).

Jaye Jang 09-20-2008 08:05 PM

I have a BBC (British Black Colorpoint). They're a cross between a black Persian and a seal-point Siamese. They're mellow, funny, occasionally cantankerous and extremely smart. For example, my 'furry' bud actually puts himself in time-out when he does something naughty. He will usually go in the bathroom and sit in the corner, facing the wall. This behaviour usually precedes a knock on the door, invariably coupled with, "Your d****** cat just ______" (fill in the blank). But, as the say in the Army, 'forewarned is forearmed.'

Jaye Jang 09-20-2008 08:20 PM

Apathy's_Child, so sorry. I just saw your post. Wow. *hugs*. That's why I worry so much about my 'bud' when he's out ranging.

BH344 Ich habe auch ein schwartze katzeliein. (Yeah, I know. I need to practice).

$chaDe, Je suis le chat aussi, mais tu est aussi un chat tres gentil.

I have a Persian rug?

Jaye Jang 09-20-2008 10:58 PM

Lol, nightmare. I have one too. He's called my cat.

NightmareInShiningArmour 09-20-2008 11:06 PM

You named your rug "my cat" and gave it a sex?
weirdo... 0.o

Jaye Jang 09-20-2008 11:10 PM

Nooo, Nightmare,. Silly boy. I was being facetious. My cat is male, part Persian, and he only thinks he's a rug.

$haDe 09-21-2008 01:26 AM

I actually have one too, It's a native one..

It passed away a few month but I didn't tell anyone here.

Those crappy protestors stomped on them while they were busy killing their opponents.

ps. Hey,Jaye Is that my word in your sig...I don't remember saying it...

Oh wait.. I remember. -_-

Jaye Jang 09-21-2008 08:33 AM

$haDe, sorry about your cat. That's awful. *hugs*, BTW, yeah. That's you. You're just so quotable.

$haDe 09-21-2008 08:39 AM

I was wondered for a long time where did I was...

Then the old lady next door told me that she found it injured and tried to get it to the hospital (for pet) But she afraid that running through those barbarians to her car might have her end up like my cat.

So,I was like...alright alright... that's fine. I hope he was happy then...

ps. I called him "Boogey"

Jaye Jang 09-21-2008 08:54 AM

$haDe, You poor pet. You've had a rough life.

Draconysius 09-21-2008 10:41 AM

I like pussy. *ba-dum ting*
What I DON'T like are goff girls who pretend they're cats, going about meowing and all that rubbish like some pathetic furry.

Jaye Jang 09-21-2008 10:46 AM

What about Shade? He's a cat.

@ Shade: I'm so sorry about your cat =\ for that, all the protesters shall be shot!

Mealla 09-22-2008 03:21 AM

Woof!

That said, Egyptian Maus, Abyssinians, Bengal cats, Somali, Ocicats, Birman, and Ragdolls are beautiful. With a couple exceptions here and there, I tend to prefer both dog and cat breeds that resemble their wild counterparts.

AngelikDemonik 09-22-2008 05:29 AM

I have a beautiful ragdoll cat that I found roaming the streets when she was just a little baby. She is now 13 years old. She never stops meowing and pretty much hates everyone but me. She is a very peculiar cat, but I love her lots.

Noirette 09-22-2008 05:57 AM

I have a 7 months old black-and-white kitty.
She's beautiful. Though she pretends to be quite apathyc, I found her sleeping and purring near me early at the morning a few times already.
They are such proudful creatures. Altough she's the first cat I have at home, I help a very kind woman to feed street-cats. All of them have such different personalities and react differently to the same situations, it's hard to believe if you haven't actually seen it.

They should!! Not only my 'Boogey' there were at least ten people died from that 'civil war'...
I mean conflict.

Saya 09-26-2008 01:32 PM

We got Lucy from the SPCA, when we got her she was right skinny and doesn't like being touched. Last month she started coming around to us, she loved being petted and while not cuddly would at least sit next to me. Then all of a sudden she went back to the way she was before, doesn't like be touched at all, will not sit with either of us. Is it normal for a cat to be that moody? Is there something I can do to let her know we aren't going to beat her?

Solumina 09-26-2008 02:31 PM

She should come around eventually, most cats can be quite finicky when they are getting used to you so her behavior seems pretty normal, especially if she suffered some form of abuse in the past.

lucylucy 09-26-2008 04:54 PM

I have 2 cats. They are both insane. One is Charlie (a girl). When she was a kitten, she climbed people's legs to greet them. And just hung there. She'd also ride around on my shoulders.

The other I call Effie. She's old now and does gross creepy things like sleep in her litterbox. :/

Duane 09-26-2008 05:00 PM

I had 2 kittens', they were mousers, too. However, those god damn Furbies ate them, and I had to put some hurtin' on those fuckers... and that's why we're not on good terms.

Okay... seriously, I really did have two kittens, they were mousers. They were tearing up the furniture, and plants... we gave them away, and I suppose that they were seperated from one another. Not cool.

My cat Paris did that too, it's how he first greeted me at the shelter and the reason I adopted him - he climbed right up my legs and back, clung onto my shoulders and wouldn't let go. Now he's too fat =[. Still tries to ride around on shoulders though, doesn't work too well.

Corpsey 09-27-2008 04:04 AM

Heh, I remember when I was 14 I went over to see a friend working at a cattery in a University and we went to play with the kittens and at one point this tiny kitten launched itself at me and rocket-bumped my chest. I got such a shock I nearly fell over and knocked over my friend over, causing quite a bit of embarrasment.

^_^'

Ugh, I miss Hobo, but my mother thinks that He and her partners Dog won't get along too well.

/resigned sigh

Check this out. Cat gargoyles. Gotta love it.

jack_the_knife 10-12-2008 03:29 AM

I had two cats, one named mop and one named garras ( Because I found him at garras wharf near where my grand parents live. ). Garras was a cat that didn't want to be bothered, he used to chase rabbits and other small furry animals. Mop used to mope around and was incredibly lazy. Mop got run over by a Lorry and Garras got run over by some idiot in porsche 911.

Saya 10-12-2008 09:43 AM

We figured out what was wrong with Lucy! She got fleas. It explains why she was so cranky all the time. I don't understand how she got them, she's an indoor cat. But anyway, we gave her treatment for it the other day and now she's being super friendly ^_^
