Suggestions please?

Here is my dilemma; I am extra picky about the music that I like. As far as goth music goes I adore Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bauhaus, I also like The Cult a bit and Sisters of Mercy. That's about where it ends...I don't like Sexgang Children, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Christian Death, and there are some other bands to add to that list that I can't remember at the moment. I'm just really set on finding bands that sound more like Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bauhaus...but thus far it seems like in my own opinion no one really comes close. Band suggestions would be much appreciated.

Not goth, but really good, and same lyrical themes.

Lovely music, thank you PortraitOfSanity.

Man In Room 5 02-13-2010 06:14 AM

How about Danielle Dax or All About Eve? Both under appreciated IMO.

Mariner 02-13-2010 08:58 AM

Great suggestions PortraitOfSanity, although I didn't care too much for My Dying Bride. I especially enjoyed Paradise Lost (good book and good band lol). Haven't looked into Danielle Dax or All About Eve yet Man In Room 5, but I'll let you know what I think when I get around to listening to them.

FlowerGirl 02-13-2010 09:57 AM

Try Muscoviet Musquito by Clan of Xymox

PixelAvenger 02-13-2010 11:28 AM

The Best Of CD from Clan of Xymox is a good collection by them. I would avoid their more recent material though...

Mariner 02-13-2010 04:00 PM

I like Danielle Dax, a very interesting sound. All About Eve was alright. Thank you Man In Room 5. I especially enjoyed Clan of Xymox I think they're most what I've been looking for (I have however only listened to the one song suggested by Flowergirl, need to listen to some more to be sure I like them), thank you FlowerGirl and PixelAvenger.

I've really enjoyed checking out all of these band suggestions, a big thanks to everyone that has named a band for me. You're welcome to keep them coming lol.

Man In Room 5 02-14-2010 11:32 AM

Do you speak German? How about Xmal Deutschland? They're often compared to Siouxsie but they sing mostly in German. They're the only non-English speaking band I listen to....but I'm a sucker for any goth band fronted by a female vocalist.

Then you're hopeless.

PortraitOfSanity 02-14-2010 03:08 PM

Why? All those bands, with the exception of Depeche Mode, suck.

PixelAvenger 02-14-2010 05:08 PM

Nah, none of those bands suck. Except post-Rozz Christian Death.

It is hopeless to argue opinion. It is what it is, I like what I like.

No, I do not speak German Man In Room 5, however I don't mind listening to bands that don't sing in English. I'll be sure to look into Xmal Deutschland.

No, just as I said picky.

vindicatedxjin 02-15-2010 07:41 AM

I like goth music somewhat, but I find it very boring and monotonous after a while. Try listening to bands like metric, grizzly bear, arcade fire, and portugal. the man...it's fresh and different from what you probably listen to.

I think just about any kind of music can get boring and monotonous when listened to all of the time (hence why I listen to many different genres of music). I'll check out the bands you've suggested and see what I think. All of this new music to check out, I'm getting a bit overwhelmed. I still haven't checked out Xmal Deutschland...

Who here has seen Bauhaus live? I saw their concert once and it was kind of lame

Huh? I actually like many live versions of their songs better than the studio versions. Bauhaus is amazing live.

I've seen them in person, plus I have several concerts from them in my music collection.

vindicatedxjin 02-15-2010 12:15 PM

.....bleh.......

FlowerGirl 02-15-2010 12:20 PM

pixel: How many bauhaus concerts have you been to?

jpb7776 02-15-2010 02:23 PM

I've very new to the forum, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Mission (UK)!! Even though they are "that other band" associated with the Sisters of Mercy, I find their stuff to have more longevity with me personally, and they are very similar to all the bands mentioned. Here are a few clips of my personal favorite songs:

Deliverance:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uvna9...eature=related

Blood Brother:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_S-3...eature=related
(This isn't the original video, but just listen to the song! :)!)

Dance On Glass:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dikSeQmKs8
(If you've heard "Black Planet" by the Sisters, you'll recognize this one)

Butterfly on a Wheel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udGzWTWC0Nk

That's a good intro to them. I recommend you buy "God's Own Medicine," It's amazing!

Just the one.

Mariner 02-16-2010 04:21 PM

Hm...why did no one suggest London After Midnight? I just found them...and they're pretty awesome in my own opinion.

Pineapple_Juice 02-16-2010 04:31 PM

1. Because they suck.

2. Because they don't sound anything like Bauhaus or Siouxsie.

No...they don't sound like them. However, other bands that aren't like Siouxsie and Bauhaus have already been suggested. In my own opinion, they don't suck.

That was going to be one of my next suggestions, actually.

If that's the case, I suggest Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Frantic Flintstones, Cocteau Twins, All Gone Dead, Suicide Commando, Deadbolt, Android Lust, Dead Man's Bones and Fleetwood Mac.

Yuck...Depeche Mode. I hope the others you have listed aren't too similar to Depeche Mode, incase you didn't notice in the original post I said I don't like them.

Hey FUCK YOU, Depeche Mode is LIFEBLOOD.

Anyway, you also said in the original post that you wanted music that sounded like Bauhaus and Siouxsie. Since you threw that out the window I assumed we were disregarding the whole post.

And for the record, both of those bands utterly suck.

Um, glad you have such strong opinions? Sorry I don't share them?

Pineapple_Juice 02-16-2010 05:21 PM

Exactly. toodlyooh

Pineapple_Juice 02-16-2010 05:22 PM

Also....
No, none of those bands sound like DM.

ALSO,
I'm curious what you've heard from Depeche Mode that makes you think they suck.

Which concerts do you have and where do you find them? I have a few myself: some in MP3, some in lossless and a couple of videos. You don't have the bootleg In Fear of Fear do you? Mine recently got ruined. :-( Maybe we have something we can trade.

SiouxsiePernova 02-17-2010 04:55 AM

You might like The Creatures.

Thank you for the links. I've watched the first music video before but not the Temple of Love music video. I really do like Sisters of Mercy (as I said in the original post).

And, The Creatures are amazing.

How about Alien Sex Fiend, The B 52's, The Cramps, or Skeletal Family?

Nothing too special, really. I have the CD releases, and all of the live recordings available on the recent deluxe editions of the first two CDs, including the ones from a CD you only got from preordering both from the record company. Aside from that I have the recording of the concert I went to, which was available for purchase immediately following the concert.
