Whoo boy! You have just opened a can of worms with that question!

You might want to search "other posts by Alan" (right click on his name) or better still use the advanced search and search for posts by username Alan, containing the word "Ayn".

And put on your armor. Be ready to justify why you like her writing.

Murder.Of.Crows 01-28-2011 02:47 PM

Oh shit, just got back from "Nietzsche: a flawed partner..." even there i could feel the radiating heat from Alan's dislike for Ayn.

Blackspike 01-28-2011 03:55 PM

I am from london but i havent met anyone else on here... yet lol x

I honestly haven't read anything by her specifically because of the seething hatred you can feel from the computer screen when Alan talks about her.

Alas, I don't think so.

Have you been to Slimelight before?

Alan 01-28-2011 04:50 PM

Ayn Rand is a horrible writer. I don't even call her a philosopher.
She was so stupid she made her cult followers all smoke, because it was a "victory of man over fire" and said (not though, SAID) that the idea that smoking causes cancer is just communist propaganda. Guess what she died of.
That's how out-of-touch with reality she was. Also, by her standards she should have died as a happy woman: she was rich, and had no one (you know, to hold her back and shit). So why was she always depressed in the end of her life if she just followed her own philosophy?
She died being a real Randian hero after all: I don't need anyone/ why won't anyone praise me?

Alan 01-28-2011 04:53 PM

Oh yeah, she also had inspiration for half of her philosophy from a serial killer:

Alan,

I'm entitled to my opinion as are yours. I don't have an Ayn Rand tattoo, and only agree with a few of her principles. I can't see why it bothers you in such a way. Live and let live.

This_Isnt_Me 01-28-2011 04:55 PM

One thing I will say is, she isn't the only person who has found inspiration in serial killers..

However, I don't really feel like a keyboard battle tonight, sorry. I don't really care what you throw, copy and paste at me. I like her books and a few words from you isn't going to change that. Why don't you put your energy to better use? :)

Because of my typo?

Sorry.

*I am entitled to my opinion, as you are yours.

Alan 01-28-2011 05:00 PM

I wouldn't have minded you - liking Ayn Rand is just a part of you - up to the point where you said you don't care and yet act passive-aggressive against me because you're clearly offended by what I have to say.

Fuck you, man. If you think I should put my energy on something better, isn't it a little hypocritical that you're on an internet forum? And how much time do you think I'm wasting? Destroying that bitch's philosophy takes a matter of minutes - if you need more time to think that's you, not the rest of us. You had a chance, and why the hell are you defending serial killers?

Addendum: No dude, if you really like Ayn Rand you should know "I'm not entitled to my opinion nor are you." There's only Rand's opinion or the wrong opinion.

This_Isnt_Me 01-28-2011 05:02 PM

Am I just going to get vilified no matter what I post? No wonder there are so many digital tumbleweeds on this site..

Alan 01-28-2011 05:05 PM

You weren't going to be vilified up to the point where you said you "don't care" anyway.
Why should you be entitled to your own opinion when you dismiss any which aren't yours? And that's from a tolerant point of view. From Rand's point of view you have no entitlement to an opinion, period.

Hell, the fact that I'm schooling you about facts of Ayn Rand tells me you only like her because you really don't understand her. Turn away man! There's still hope. Trust me. There's nothing she has said that Nietzsche or Karl Marx (yes, Karl Marx) didn't say and better.

This_Isnt_Me 01-28-2011 05:06 PM

Alan, do you just sit on here clicking refresh, waiting for newbies to come pick on? Guess what, I don't judge you for what you like, don't judge me for what I like.

I honestly don't care, but to be honest, from your re-action, and the warnings people had to give about you, I thought you could be taken down a notch or two.

I have a funny, sneaking feeling you wouldn't have ever warmed up to me, regardless of how I responded. Reading Ayn Rand books must sum me up completely. I don't rage at people who read Dan Brown books, though sometimes I feel like I should :P

I just came here to reach out and hopefully find some likeminded people. First post is a negative one..would it make you feel like opening up?

I can read Rand and entertain ideas without taking them all on board. That's a skill most people *should* possess.

Pray tell, when did I get a chance exactly?

I'm NOT defending serial killers, gee you are really grasping at straws now. I just said she's not the only person to get inspiration for ideas/stories/songs from serial killers.

I don't recall anything in my previous post or this post condoning killing anybody, so calm down!

Alan 01-28-2011 05:10 PM

I'm pretty sure I haven't grasped straws; I have responded to every single thing you have mentioned and hell, I have even responded to things I knew you would eventually say, such as the insistence on the "I don't care attitude"
That's a champion attitude to have in a forum: a place with other people.
If you had wanted a friendly debate why do you go straight at me? Did I ever attack you on my first post? Fuck no, just Rand. If that offends you that's your problem, not mine.

And man, I'm just drying my hair, what's wrong with being able to respond this quickly when I'm in front of the monitor? If you think that means I have no life what does it say about you? You're doing the same?
If you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

This_Isnt_Me 01-28-2011 05:11 PM

Have a nice life, Alan. Have your forum back, too. I'm off to re-read the Fountainhead.

Alan 01-28-2011 05:13 PM

Yeah, you go read that book about a terrorist who blew up a building because they didn't give him recognition when one of the conditions he asked for was to have no recognition.

Alan 01-28-2011 05:17 PM

You guys know I'm a little paranoid, so just for the record:

It's not just me, right? It's clear I never initially offended him, it's up to him if he took offense at my hating Ayn Rand.

Murder.Of.Crows 01-28-2011 05:20 PM

No, she merely asked why she was such a terrible author. Then you slammed her with a shit load of information. Not that you are a monster, just you trying to make sure someone doesn't fall prey to idiocy. You know, what you usually do. You may have come off a bit strong though.

Alan 01-28-2011 05:43 PM

Yeah, I do know I'm a dick, but that's kind of my shtick. In any case in here we're made of a tougher material so I wonder if she (thought it was a he) would have lasted. At least her fight was for something relatively substantial.

Murder.Of.Crows 01-28-2011 05:55 PM

Not sure if she would. Shit, if i took anything here seriously i wouldn't have lasted a day. I am kind of saddened by her giving up though, but it was inevitable none the less. Maybe, you just spared her from meeting some other untimely end. Maybe. Don't feel too bad though, otherwise her passive aggressive ways would have prevailed, and that is one of the most annoying attributes alot people seem to have.

Dude, stop being a yes man.

Murder.Of.Crows 01-28-2011 06:09 PM

yes man? trying to get what your saying, but then when i get half way there, Jim Carey busts into my head and starts yelling at me NO MAN! NO MAN! NO MAN! God, why is my mind so media orientated.

Apathy's_Child 01-29-2011 08:27 AM

Don't let Jilly put you off the place. I can understand getting your back up when you get attacked so vehemently in your Intro, but that's just how people roll around here. Stick around - I must confess I hate Ayn Rand and Curel Intentions, but you don't seem like an irredeemable dick, so I'd suggest you try the place out and see how you go.

EDIT: Oh, Jilly is Alan, by the way.

HumanePain 01-29-2011 08:37 AM

Alan is strong coffee. He is right, but strong coffee. And I love strong coffee.

T.I.M., if you read what Alan is saying and not how he is saying it you can have dialogue and who knows? Maybe even learn something.

And a side benefit: if you survive the mortar and pestle that is the Gnet Introduction and "welcome", you will become thick skinned enough to survive the daily debates and questions. This place is a reflection of society: not everyone has the blowtorch on high like Alan, but not everyone is nice either. If you don't like the welcome, you may not survive the month. Or week.
Just sayin'.

ape descendant 01-29-2011 09:08 AM

Awe, just ignore Alan for now, just an angry little person.. yes...

Let us ignore Ann Raynd and get on to some of these "overindulgences" you'd like to die of... you totally had me at "Overindulgence or in some sort of pleasure :P".

Not to mention the fact that your spelling doesn't give me fits of rage. Welcome to gnet.

OnyxBat 01-30-2011 03:55 PM

all holy ape! amen...
WELCOME TO GNET!

Alan 01-30-2011 04:06 PM

I love how it's rarely the smart people in Gnet who accuse me of just being pissed (save for Apathy)

Have you noticed how as a rule I always 'have a point' up to the point where I do not agree with you?

OnyxBat 01-30-2011 04:09 PM

That makes no sense,
you have a point but you don't agree with the other...that's a human rule.

Alan 01-30-2011 04:15 PM

Care to translate that into something intelligible?

OnyxBat 01-30-2011 04:23 PM

ok!

You know how they say that every one has gone through different life experiences so they have a different way of thinking. I personally think it also has to do with religion and why it still exist within our society. So for example if you were arguing about religion there will be no correct answer to what your arguing because it is not a math equation. Like mentioned before everyone has there own opinion so its most likely that humans will disagree with each other its only very often that we do agree with each other.

If I am getting off topic let me know.

Alan 01-30-2011 04:29 PM

Yeah, you should get off topic, because not one single person fucking talked about religion here.

Christ, when are you going to smarten up?

OnyxBat 01-30-2011 04:33 PM

I SAID FOR EXAMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD DAMN IT!

when are you going to smarten up and start understanding,

Alan 01-30-2011 04:36 PM

And your example is shitty and has nothing to do with this thread. In fact, we argued PRECISELY upon the fucking idiotic idea that "it's my opinion therefore I'm entitled to consider it superior to yours" is a valid statement.
And you come and fucking repeat it again after I proved it wrong.

Go read a fucking book or take a logics class, for fuck's sake.

OnyxBat 01-30-2011 04:37 PM

Why do we have two political system? because not every one agreed for one.
Why hasn't Homosexual marriage been approve in all states at once? Because not every on agreed.
Why does china have a one child policy? because not every one agreed.
Why dont you agree with me? Because you dont agree with me!

DO YOU GET MY POINT NOW!

OnyxBat 01-30-2011 04:39 PM

I'm in freakin High school I cant take that class yet, what book should I read, recovery from being an idiot!

Alan 01-30-2011 04:41 PM

No. You're fucking stupid.
We don't have "two political system" [sic] you fucking idiot.
I can't believe you're fucking defending the fact that homosexuals can't marry because "not every on agreed"[sic] with it.
China's one child policy has nothign to do with 'not every one agreed' [sic]

AND HOW CAN YOU THINK A TAUTOLOGY IS AN ARGUMENT?!

Alan 01-30-2011 04:42 PM

Can't you at least come up with clever insults?

"Lol wat book shud i reed, how to be stupid? lololol"

OnyxBat 01-30-2011 04:47 PM

Unlike you I dont go and insult people.

ok, ok, ok

Lets see how clear I can make my self,

"it's my opinion therefore I'm entitled to consider it superior to your" statement it IN BUT VALID in some arguments. Now thats what I think (thats part of the reason why I get off topic).

Democratic and Republic i count them as systems dont ask why I just do.

Alan 01-30-2011 04:52 PM

You are perfect proof that we shouldn't blindly respect opinions.
Democrats and Republicans are NOT two different political systems just because you fucking say they are.

OnyxBat 01-30-2011 04:55 PM

They are two different systems of political thinking.

That's it I'm done, throwing the damn towel.

Alan 01-30-2011 04:57 PM

They are not two different systems, stop saying that. Go to your government professor or your history professor or hell, anyone older than 17 and tell them that and you'll get fucking laughed at.

OnyxBat 01-30-2011 04:59 PM

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_fObSStlFSG...dle_finger.jpg

Alan 01-30-2011 05:01 PM

Classy.
I'm still more offended by the fact that you won't fucking admit you're wrong in believing democrats and republicans are two different political systems.
