What are you gonna be for Halloween?

I know this thread is a bit late for people to use for inspiration, but I am curious :D
I am gonna be a demon in a black monk's robe - complete with black eyes and fangs.
I have this so far:

Question: Should I dye my eyebrows for this?

Solumina 09-06-2012 12:23 PM

I wouldn't use a permanent dye as brows look really funny as the color grows out but you can use a temporary dye or even a brow pencil, which can be picked up cheaply. An additional benefit of the pencil is that you can change the shape of your brows if you want.

As for my costume this year I found a small venetian mask that I really like and I'm building a costume around that.

Alan 09-06-2012 12:26 PM

My girlfriend and I want to dress up like the Blues Brothers. Both of us want to be Elwood.

That's good advice actually :) But what if I kept dying the eyebrows? I mean, I am already dying my hair, so why not? Would that look weird too fast?

And you MUST upload pictures of this mask, it sounds sexy!

Solumina 09-06-2012 12:59 PM

Sure if you want to keep up with it then you can dye them, plenty of people do, you just have to be careful about which dyes you use as most shouldn't be used around the eyes. Not sure if you have them in Denmark but here there are some beauty supply stores that are open to the public that have dyes safe for the brows.

The mask isn't anything super special, just a simple half mask covered in lace. Like this without the thing on the side:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg
I'm going to jazz it up a bit, add some trim and such around the edge but I haven't decided exactly what I want.

Timeless Rebellion 09-06-2012 02:39 PM

Well, we have this store called Matas, and they sell dye that is intended for eyebrows and eyelashes.
So I believe that should work just fine :3
Only problem is, if it looks silly when I do it the first time, I am going to have to wait a long time to rectify it.

Timeless Rebellion 09-06-2012 02:44 PM

Where are my manners... I forgot to comment on your awesome mask!
Perhaps you could add a coloured trim to it? Something gold or silver-ish?

Solumina 09-06-2012 03:15 PM

I think I want to keep my whole look as black and white as possible but I was thinking about doing a black fringe along the bottom edge. I don't want to do trim around the eyes as I cannot stand anything obstructing my vision (which is why I like this mask so much, it sits nice and flush to my cheeks and brows) but I was thinking of using some super small rhinestones at least in the inner corners of the eyes. I'm just not sure what I want to do with the top, I like it as is but it may look strange with fringe on the bottom and not on the top so I was thinking about ruffled satin but I'm not totally sold on the idea, I think I'm going to see if I can just get some trim scraps from the fabric store to play around with until I can make up my mind.

Saya 09-06-2012 06:40 PM

I really want to be Batwoman but student loans won't cover my final semester (s, depending on my honours thesis) so I'm on a very strict budget for the next year D:

Versus 09-06-2012 06:54 PM

I was tempted to get a lab coat and my biggest pair of glasses.

But who am I kidding. I'm going to drink by myself.

Get goggles and you can be Dr Horrible <3

And I'll Skype drink with you XD

Solumina 09-06-2012 07:15 PM

Ouch that blows.

Any chance of you being able to make a Batwoman costume cheaply?

Solumina 09-06-2012 07:17 PM

Also not to get in on your skype date but can we have a costumed tinychat party?

I'll have to go to the fabric store anyway soon so I'll see how much four way stretch pvc costs, the material is going to be the worst of it. I could do like a cotton spandex perhaps for cheaper but I'd rather have the shiny material for authenticity. The body suit pattern I saw online will cost 16 dollars shipping included.

Wouldn't a silver trim technically qualify? It won't break too much with the black-and-white theme, but it will add shine to the whole thing I believe.

Saya: That sucks... If everything goes wrong, you can always put on a pair of ears and draw whiskers on your face :o
Also! I wholely endorse the costumed tinychat session! If you do it when I am not busy getting drunk at the awesome parties I am attending....

Class-Punk 09-07-2012 11:42 PM

A college student. I've got some legitimate overpriced books I'll be taking into an actual college, on Halloween night. Which is good for me, since I rarely do anything on this holiday, and I sort of hate it; even though I have the musical knowledge to host one hell of a Halloween party. Drinking might happen though.

ha, I think worst case scenario is I'll buy a cat mask and try to find my cat claw gloves. I bought a dress a few years ago for a cat costume, just cause it looked like something Eartha Kitt Catwoman would wear.

Timeless Rebellion 09-08-2012 07:39 AM

Class-Punk: I'll be going to school on Halloween night as well. I felt no need to specify in my topic that I was talking about outfits for Halloween parties... :P
Saya: That sounds cool too :b

Elystan 09-08-2012 04:01 PM

"You don't look like you're dressed for Halloween, you just look dangerous" - Some guy in a pub last Halloween

Going as myself, scary as fuck

Timeless Rebellion 09-08-2012 05:23 PM

Elystan: Don't take it too hard. Once, at a concert, someone came up to me and asked me if I was a fan or a bouncer....

BourbonBoy 09-08-2012 09:19 PM

I'm debating being Morpheus since I have a leather trench coat, similar sunglasses and after some time in the sun tend to be a little tan. Except the clothes are all black, rather than dark grey

Timeless Rebellion 09-09-2012 11:23 PM

Have you considered the "shaving your head bald" part though?

Miss Absynthe 09-10-2012 03:11 AM

We don't really do halloween here.. I'm jealous of all the fun you are going to have.

BourbonBoy 09-10-2012 05:47 AM

Yeah. I already have a buzzcut since I have a massiv widow's peak. All it would take is an electric razor and a small bottle of rubbing alcohol afterwards :D

Halloween is not really a thing in Denmark. It's only just starting to... But I am very fond of it, and I have some friends who are, too! :D Which is why I have the chance :D
Come to Denmark, join the parties I am going to! :D

Miss Absynthe 09-11-2012 07:56 PM

Oh, the reasons I wish I was in Denmark are innumerable.

Damn Danes, being so freaking lovely. :|

Timeless Rebellion 09-12-2012 08:50 AM

Indeed we are! :D

Timeless Rebellion 09-12-2012 10:43 PM

My costume is a partner costume now :D
A friend of mine is gonna dress up as a succubus, and I get to put a chain on her for the night :D

NapalmCow 09-13-2012 04:01 AM

Ever read The Monk?

Krampus 09-13-2012 08:40 PM

Would it be completely tacky for my fiance and I to go as the Joker and Harley Quinn? It wouldn't be the Heath Ledger Joker that everybody was doing a few years ago, good ole classic Joker.

We also thought about switching the genders (I being Harley and her being the Joker)

Solumina 09-13-2012 10:49 PM

As long as it is done well there is nothing tacky about Joker and Harley (okay so there kind of is but in the wonderfully tacky, over the top, clashing colors kind of way). The gender swap could also be really fun and interesting, I say go for it!

No, I actually haven't :)

Krampus: That would be totally awesome :D

Valhalla 09-16-2012 04:07 PM

I'm being Harley Quinn again this year since I don't want to drop money on another costume. I'm just going to buy better make up.

CuckooTuli 09-19-2012 06:04 AM

I'm pretty much Knockout from the villainous Secret Six every year. Highwayman mask, long leather gloves & whatever green clothes I can find rattling around the wardrobe.

And Krampus - tackiness is the whole point. EMBRACE it. :)

I would totally be your Scandal Savage.

That'd rule, although I'd be super-jealous of the outfit - those blades'd be awesome! Unfortunately, having no monies for a legit cool costume & no motivation to make one, I'm stuck with taking the kind of advantage of having red hair that only comes once a year. Oh well, at least it's good for Halloween & being found in crowds. :)

The other problem would be that I demand you carry me wherever we go, because this has to be the best romantic scene in a comic ever.

Behold! For my costume is done! Except for my succubus minion and a small pouch for my collected souls(chocolate balls in coloured foil)

Gothic1988 10-12-2012 06:00 PM

I don't plan on being anything Gothic. People often say that I look Italian, so I plan to dress up as a 1930s gangster for Halloween. I already have my tailored suit, so I just need a fedora.

BourbonBoy 10-12-2012 06:52 PM

Timeless, that is an awesome costume I think I'll put more effort into next years given your influence.

Timeless Rebellion 10-13-2012 03:09 PM

Gothic: That sounds like an awesome idea :D
Bourbon: Thanks :D Glad I could inspire :D

The Divine Ms. M 10-15-2012 04:30 AM

Looking good Timeless! I just hit on my costume last night...I think I shall be the Mask of the Red Death. My main thing is finding a red hooded cape, but I have red flats so I also need either a red dress or a red top & pants or skirt & tights. Then of course there's the mask...I think I want to paint my own unless I find a good already made one. I think if I can act within the week, I can pull it off.

Timeless Rebellion 10-15-2012 11:16 AM

Ms. M: Thank you :D
That does sound like an awesome costume :D
