jeans???

Hi,
I was talking to some goths a few days ago, and they were wearing blue jeans.
And, they said it was okay to wear blue jeans. But, I thought you had to wear
something black. Soooo... ... Can you wear jeans or whatever?

Godslayer Jillian 10-19-2006 06:54 PM

Goths do not have to follow a strict dress code.
Hell, I'd dress preppy sometimes if I find an outfit that is aesthetically good.
So, yeah, a goth can dress jeans. Being goth is more about music than fashion style. There are more aspects than those two, but from both, music is more important than fashion.

Crying_Crimson_Tears 10-19-2006 06:55 PM

I must agree. Music is much more imprtant than fashion. But fashion does help. I wear jeans a good deal of the time. I'm wearing some now.

Godslayer Jillian 10-19-2006 06:59 PM

Yes, goths do tend to dress in black (with red and white being the secondary colors) but that's not a must.
By the way, if you ask someone why does he wear black and tries to give you a "deep" answer like "because that's how I feel inside" or "because black absorbs color so I'm absorbing life", feel free to laugh at them.

kitten 10-19-2006 07:20 PM

lol. goths wear black because hat what we do. lol. I wear jeans too. Theyr cheap and easy, lol. "goth" clothes can be expensive. :)

darkness-creepshow 10-19-2006 09:49 PM

Why not black jeans..they look much better than blue jeans! although it depends on which black jeans you get..theres only like a couple of black jeans that actually good

PersephoneX 10-19-2006 10:27 PM

i usually punk my jeans up, with chains or studs...otherwise i paint on them, or sew my favourite band's patches on the front. i sometimes unpick the stitching at the bottom and embroider something fun into them...

i only have one pair of regular jeans, for when we go and visit my dad's mother...

Delkaetre 10-20-2006 04:16 AM

I've got cheapie clack jeans. My last pair of blue jeans got battered beyond recognition, and were almost white from washing.
I like my cheapie black jeans. They're like eighties drainpipes, and go great when i tuck them into my boots. They make my legs look extra skinny!
I need to get myself some normalish jeans again, though. They'll end up butchered, but I need a little diversity in my wardrobe for when I have to go out without attracting too many funny looks.

Electrolyte 10-20-2006 07:11 AM

I used to wear jeans, but I don't like them any more. I much prefer wearing combats.

chelseagirl 10-20-2006 07:28 AM

I pretty much live in Lip Service skinny fit jeans..they just fit me so well. Most of my jeans are black (as with most of my clothing), but not because I "feel black inside", hehe, that's funny! I don't wear black because it's "a goth thing to do", I wear it because that's what I like. I've actually tried to add color to my wardrobe, but I just always feel uncomfortable in it, and I also think that it looks bad because of all of the colorful tattoos I have...it just looks too busy or something. So, I try to add color to my wardrobe with accessories, like purses and shoes and hair. :)

kitten 10-20-2006 09:02 AM

i love lip service jeans! i have 3 pairs and theyr soo comfy!. lol.....my comment about "it what we do" meant that most people think of goth and think black...its just a common assosiation.

Crying_Crimson_Tears 10-20-2006 09:24 AM

I have one pair of punked up jeans. They have the safety pins, and random writing and random painting, the whole nine yards. They're really cool. But my dad made me get a regular pair of jeans for when I have to go some place where I should not be trying to attract looks.

She_Is_My_Sin 10-20-2006 10:28 AM

I have grey, baggy jeans which I tuck into my New Rocks. They're so comfortable, so I wear them on days I can't be bothered to dress up on.

I also have a pair of black skinny fit jeans. Though they do have a tendancy to fall down a bit at the back & flash my underwear to the world (I made the mistake of wearing them out to a restaurant & revealing my lovely panties to the waiter). Plus I don't really have skinny fit legs, so they look quite nasty on me.

Crying_Crimson_Tears 10-20-2006 11:38 AM

*Laughs* I can't find a pair of skinny jeans that really fit on me. But I will try to soon. I think they're sexy. ;) Even though I don't have real skinny legs, I don't care, I love my body.

Does anyone know where I can find a decent pair of skinny jeans???

kitten 10-20-2006 01:58 PM

lip service has wonderful skinny jeans, I get one of my pairs at hot topic, because I dont stick mynose up at hot topic (I dont have the time nor money to shop elsewhere somtimes) lol, yeah, You might have to do a little searching

Solumina 10-20-2006 05:53 PM

I live in jeans, I got an awsome pair from Marshalls for about $12 they have studs on one of the thighs in a really cool pattern that looks like a butterfly or a dragon's face

DarkHeartedDemoness 10-21-2006 07:10 AM

No way-- did someone seriously ask that question? "Can I wear jeans and still be gothic...?" I'm sorry, I'm just going to laugh and walk away... I can't even think of a good answer.

chain ring 10-21-2006 07:48 AM

Hey, that's Fli's first post. It's a reasonable question for a beginner who didn't say they were Goth themselves. You expect a Mennonite to dress a certain way, a nun a certain way, the CEO of a bank, a skater, and so on. The stock image of us is gloomy black black black, but jeans are such a mellow blue.

Stick around, Fli. There's great info on these boards, about style (not the same as fashion), music, literature, and individuality.

DarkHeartedDemoness 10-21-2006 08:41 AM

Yeah, I guess you're right. About the new thing, anyway... Everyone is bound to ask stupid questions for a bit when they're still new. And I really like the name "Fli" (not sure why), so I guess I'll lay off for a while. ;)

Fli 10-22-2006 08:56 PM

ahhh... yes, I'm not gothic... yet...
I have touchy parents that probably think I betrayed them by wanting being goth and all that.

Sorry for the stupid thread, Fli

Godslayer Jillian 10-22-2006 08:59 PM

Yet?
Tell me, why would you want to "become goth"?

Fli 10-22-2006 09:05 PM

Because it's perfect for me. Hell, I'm almost there.

Fli 10-22-2006 09:06 PM

Not because I think it's cool.

Godslayer Jillian 10-22-2006 09:15 PM

Why is it perfect for you?
Yeah, I know I'm nit-picking, but anyway; can you even mention some "gothic" bands?
I mean, if you don't know them already, it's because you don't like that kind of music. People cannot just choose to train themselves to like a certain type of music.

Fli 10-22-2006 09:49 PM

Well, I like almost anything in the rock genre.
Qntal is really good. Mansons Good...
Cradle of Filth, Dead can Dance, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus...
I don't really can for older stuff but, thats my taste...

Godslayer Jillian 10-22-2006 09:55 PM

Take out Manson out of the "goth" list and I like your tastes in music.;)

Fli 10-22-2006 10:00 PM

Thanks.
Mansons okay but to...erm... overly know(?).

anorexiclipgloss 10-27-2006 06:56 PM

I have some black slim fit levi jeans, they are sexy.

Crying_Crimson_Tears 10-27-2006 07:06 PM

I love my blue jeans that have rainbow stitching on the inside seam. Those are sexy on me.

Argine 10-27-2006 09:58 PM

There's nothing wrong with wearing jeans. Seriously, if you like something, wear it. If you're always worrying about whether your clothes are goth enough, you'll just look like an idiot.

I personally never wear jeans, but that's just because I find them really uncomfortable.

Blue jeans are fine to wear no matter who you are. I have three pairs and they are comfy as shit.

Those sound REALLY cute!

we_are_138 10-29-2006 12:54 PM

dogpile also makes a good pair of skinny jeans and are about the same price (or maybe a little cheaper) than lip service kill city ones. the lip service ones do fit great though (especially if you're tall) when you're short like me you gotta hem 'em.

or just wear regular jeans. I second (or third) the opinion that fashion comes second or third to music or books/literature. and it's only okay to "wear black on the outside because that's how I feel inside" if you're quoting Morrissey. (heh heh)

badteccy 10-30-2006 01:01 PM

I love your screen name. That is such a good song.
Also, skinny jeans really only look good on very thin people, which I am not. It's really frustrating because I only see black jeans that are skinny and I am in desperate need of a new pair of black jeans. Grr!
Ha...Morissey...

you can totally wear skinny jeans even if you aren't sticklike. if you could expand my avatar, you would see that i am not really skinny, yet still wear tight ass jeans! you just have to find the kind that flatter you. the bad thing about the lip service jeans is that they are REALLY low rise. but i'm not sure how the dogpile ones fit. ALSO you could (this is what my fiance does/did since he's real skinny but real tall) buy a regular pair of black jeans that fit loosely, and take them to a tailor to have them fit you. it doesn't cost that much and (depending on the tailor) you could have GREAT fitting clothes!

yeah it's a great song. they're one of my favorite bands ever. My plan is to have every thread that I start be titled with a misfits song. I've only started two, my intro thread (we are 138) and a Halloween Costume thread (I remember Halloween) let's see how far it goes hah NERD!

We're just thin, we're not sticklike. ¬¬

knightmare 10-30-2006 07:09 PM

The only jeans I have a problem with are the jeans that have the butt pads. It is the wonderbra of the rear. It is false advertising!

DarkHeartedDemoness 10-31-2006 08:12 AM

Where do you find those? I've never seen them.

Not that I need them. Porportionately speaking, I have a HUGE ass.

knightmare 10-31-2006 11:10 AM

Hi Dark Hearted Demoness, the butt-padded jeans are popular in cities with overtly superficial people (e.g. Beverly Hills, Miami). Sorry, I couldn't tell you the store that sells them since I don't shop for that type of jeans. In my opinion, a guy who wears those type of jeans is asking for it *priest heavily breathing*

"I like big butts and I cannot lie, you other brothers cannot deny"...

kitten 10-31-2006 03:05 PM

i like jeans because Im cheap.....lol....

I'm in a semi-big city (no laughing, Minneapolis isn't that small) and I haven't seen them yet... Or maybe I just don't know I'm seeing them. Oh noes! What if the asses I'm gazing at are fake?! I've been led on!

Cicero 10-31-2006 06:27 PM

I have a feeling there would be a positive correlation between where those butt-padded jeans are sold, and the demand for plastic surgery in those areas. So yes, Miami and Beverly Hills.

The only time I ever willingly wore jeans was when I was a Jet in Westside story.

I'm not really comfortable in any form of pants... They just feel and look wrong on me. They can look good on others though, and you certainly don't lose your goth card for it.

Goth_Bitch727 11-03-2006 10:06 AM

yea u can wear jeans i don't always wear black sometimes i wear jeans..so yea

Godslayer Jillian 11-03-2006 04:18 PM

Stop fucking saying "yea"!!
How about expanding you vocabulary?
P.S. "u" is not a word and "i" is capitalized.

Don't Look Behind You 11-03-2006 04:25 PM

I believe she has trouble typing a period, so she types a "so yea" to finish off every sentance. Maybe she thinks it makes her thought sound deeper...or maybe she thinks it makes it sound as if she actually has a thought. We will never know.

insertwittyname 11-03-2006 06:49 PM

I don't get much money to spend for clothes, so jeans are a staple. They're ok, though you can find some cool ways to jazz them up a bit. Sew lace and other pretty cloths in tiers and crisscross and that'd be kickass! Unless you're a guy. >.< Then I say sorry I'm out of ideas. Do not let such prejudices of ugly clothing get in the way of creativity!

MotherofMercies 11-04-2006 02:12 AM

Ga I love jeans I could not live with out them. But my problem is finding a pair that is figure flattering on me.

Guys can modify their jeans, too! The guys I know don't modify their pants like girls do, but that doesn't mean that's not ok. In our subculture, androgyny is smiled upon. If you want a more masculine modification, play with fishnet, D-rings, and straps. Permanent marker and band patches can help personalize your jeans.

I think that modifying your jeans really helps personalize your look. Jeans are comfy as hell, typically quite durable, and easy to find. Everyone wears them. That doesn't mean you shouldn't-- but making them your own can help you express your individual style.

An Eccentric Cellist 11-04-2006 10:31 AM

I used to not wear jeans, it's still a rarity for me. If I wear jeans I get gasps, literal and serious gasps of shock. The only reason I have them is because they were part of a uniform for an orchestra competition. It took me an hour and a half to find the damned things in a store, and make sure they fit decently. I still have to where a belt... and they bulg in weird places and they make my thighs and ass look big.
Yoga pants and/or skirts are my prefered choice, most people say I look like I just came out of the musical Rent.

Sorry this is the only way I can get Jilli's attention: Check your bloody email once and a while, Jilli!

Edit: Whoops, I can't spot where someone said everyone wears jeans.

Godslayer Jillian 11-04-2006 12:46 PM
