Great band you think nobody knows

Have you ever discovered a really GREAT band, and nobody seems to have heard about them? This is a chance to trow around bandnames, and maybe get a new fellow fan.

I'll start.
My favourite band is an obscure, pretty unique band from Norway; Kaizers Orchestra. It is a bit known around Europe, but I doubt there's too many here that have heard of them. That's a pity, they have this eerie feeling in their songs I thing goths world wide would love:)

Edited because of poor spelling in the tread title.

Minyaliel 12-24-2006 05:55 AM

Kaizers? *laughs* I know them. They've been on the charts here sometimes.

I don't know how well- known they might be in America, but Devics is one band I've come to love which it seems no one else has ever even heard of.

Draconysius 12-24-2006 06:41 AM

Penis Flytrap, Antiworld, or Spirit Caravan. Seriously, all of them, awesome bands.

Zenit 12-24-2006 07:15 AM

But then again, Minyaliel, we're both Norwegians...:)

HumanePain 12-24-2006 07:29 AM

A unique metal/Goth-metal band from Chicago called Yakuza.
The lead singer also plays saxophone and clarinet. The songs open up with an eerie low and slow wail from his sax, then the electric guitars slowly strum in with it, a really different kind of sound. They have a few songs too that are blantantly metal, but most of their stuff is really an original style.

Listen. You won't regret it.

Crying_Crimson_Tears 12-24-2006 09:30 AM

Upper Class Trash.

They're pretty good.

Mir 12-24-2006 12:34 PM

Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come - This album has to be, arguably, one of the best albums ever. For me in any case. This band broke up in 1998.

Tindomiel 12-26-2006 09:10 AM

October Project! I don't know if they're really "unknown" but they have such amazingly beautiful lyrics... *dreamy sigh* Give them a listen! Listen to one of the two earlier albums from '94 or something...

She_Is_My_Sin 12-27-2006 11:53 AM

MAB, an all girl band from Italy. They sound much like Jack Off Jill.

Mick Ignis 12-27-2006 01:01 PM

Stolen Babies!

Draconysius 12-27-2006 02:42 PM

Zombina and the Skeletones. They're a cheezy deathrock band, but so tuneful and awesome!

Here is where I make Draconysius jealous. ;)

Antiworld lives here in my home town of Portland. One of them is an old friend of mine who I used to trade music with, and their singer runs a punk store here called 'Another State Of Mind'. I know her from when I ran a little record store next door to them 10 years ago. Unfortunately, Antiworld doesn't play much here anymore... you know the saying about a band not being appreciated in their home town.

Dinah Cancer of 45 Grave came to one of my club nights in Portland ('Sanctuary') a few years back and introduced herself by name. I didn't actually recognize her at first, and when she said she was "Dinah Cancer" I took her literally for a second, thinking that she probably should have cut down on the cigarettes. Then she gave me a Venus Flytrap CD* and I realized who she really was. She's a Gothmother to us all, and she still looks good at her age, too!

As far as some great bands that nobody knows, I'm going to name Zoar, Devil Doll, and Univers Zero. If there's ever a subgenre called "Progressive Goth", I think these bands should be in it.

--SKot

* Incidentally, that CD was unfortunately one of the worst things I ever heard. I may have to give it another chance and go listen to it again, but I don't think it will help. It was terrible. :(

Draconysius 12-29-2006 07:50 AM

I hate you, SKot. ;)

TLZ 01-14-2007 02:03 AM

The band I'm about to mention now probably some knows... but (if I'm right) none or very few around here know about it..

Peccatum
This is a band/project by Emperor's mastermind Ihsahn and his wife Irhiel. They're music iis a mixiture of many things. Their music got's stuff like black metal, prograssive metal, industrial, symphonic, gothic metal, experimental rock, and classical music mixed into one very diverse ensemble. I don't know if they qualify as goth music... but they're dark and I think they would appeal to a lot of goths. They often change style in a song and is very dynamic. I like a lot of their lyris as well, my signature is taken from "The Moribound People".

Here's theirmyspace: http://www.myspace.com/peccatum
Here's a musicvideo for their song Moribound People: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkYQXS4_R-E

Minyaiel, Zenit: Nordmenn! Er det mange av oss her?

JCC 01-14-2007 04:40 AM

Funeral Throne are a local unsigned band; black metal trio, very good.

The bassist is a sixth former in my school, I've talked to him a couple of times and it's usually like "OMG FUNERAL THRONE!!" "Rawwwwwwk, warrrrrghhhhhhhh" a couple of horns and then we both just walk off.

EDIT: The K on the end of rawk just changed to Mickey Mouse Klub.

My favorite band, Insomnium. I don't understand why people haven't discovered their ingenius uniqueness yet.

After Midnight Project.

Haunted House 01-14-2007 02:06 PM

Ex-Voto, anyone?

P.s. Isotope, I read your signature. Rozz's got NOTHIN on me. My custom user title says so, which Cicero gave me anyway, so take it up with her. Hahaha. (this, of course, is a joke)

son_of_putrefaction 01-14-2007 02:10 PM

Devil Doll.:

Just amazing, one friend once told me about Rozz William's Pig, she said only 1,334 copies were made.

Devil Doll's The Girl Who Was ... Death had only 150 copies released. Each with a unique inlay created by Mr. Doctor, some writen with Mr. Doctor's own blood. ^^

great music.

Clockwork 01-15-2007 03:27 AM

I took to Soulscape the first time I heard them. You may or may not know of them... they're sort of Darkwave-ish/Electronic, I suppose.

KillWhitneyDead

I just like the name of the band. I found them on iTunes. That's where I find most of my music.

maggot 01-15-2007 08:37 AM

Draco, who HASN'T heard Zombina?

And their more of deathabilly.

JERK!
:P

I've heard of Kaizers Orchestra! Since like, two years ago.
I like them, rawr.

maggot 01-15-2007 02:20 PM

Insekt.

They're kind of like the nine inch nails, but more EBM and don't totally suck.

You're the deathrock king of Gnet (with close competition from Draconysius), no doubts about that, but the deathrock king of the world... well, I'm afraid that's still our dear Mr Williams ;).

Back to the subject at hand though, whenever I discover a band that I think no one knows about I'll usually head over to their myspace only to discover they have 2843463874 friends. For that reason, I can't think of anything to contribute to this thread...

Ha! I adore Zombina and The Skeletones.
I think my favoutite song has to be "Nobody likes you (when youre dead)".
Ultimate in trashy, pop, horror, zombie punk rock!!!

SilentManipulation 01-20-2007 11:25 PM

I know a couple really good bands, I don't think anyone really knows them. One of them is Scarecrow (I think a metal band also has the same name), and also DeSade. Scarecrow is an old school goth rock band, and DeSade is a deathrock band from Phoenix. I think you can find them at soundclick.com.

the_dude 01-21-2007 09:31 PM

refused was awesome for their time. killwhitneydead would be cool if they weren't all dorks about their music. and actually did splits with thrash bands.

im really into the band 'hellnation'. they effin ruled.

disorder 01-21-2007 10:24 PM

Harry and the Potters.

maggot 01-22-2007 03:58 AM

Everyone knows Harry and the Potters. It's just that no one likes them because they're nerds, and kind of suck for it. :P :D

Draconysius 01-23-2007 11:17 AM

Action Action, a very new-wave revival kind-of act. They're very, VERY unique and have a sort of darkwave-y tinge to them. Despite the fact that they were on Victory records, though, they don't flaunt their "darkness" like it's going out of style! :p

And also Spirit Caravan... again.

LegendGirl 01-24-2007 01:32 PM

I groove on Noxious Emotion. Lots of electronic/synth gloomy goodness.

Cyntrox 01-24-2007 02:03 PM

Right before I joined this board, I could have listed tons of them - but in here they're common xD

asta_tintora 01-24-2007 05:13 PM

Mm, I like HellTrash, even though I haven't seen them in a long time. I wonder if they ever cut a full length album...

Cyberbat 01-24-2007 07:38 PM

Scary Valentine, Deathboy, Bat Lord, My Ruin, Halo In Reverse, Young Gods, Chasing the Ghost, Angels In Bondage, Die Krumps (perhaps).

P.S.

For anyone who can point me somewhere that I may buy Penis Flytrap, I will love forever until death. I'm not really into necrophilia, so after that point, you’re on your own.

Cyberbat 01-24-2007 07:41 PM

Oh, and The Azoic.

Splintered 01-24-2007 10:12 PM

Scar Symmetry.
I don't know too many people who know them, but I really like how they can alternate between really clean vocals, and this really deep growling. Very cool in my opinion.

badteccy 01-25-2007 08:22 AM

Ex-Voto?
One of the original deathrock bands. Also...not goth but Xiu Xiu anyone?

killer_asian_Dax 01-25-2007 09:59 AM

Lunarclick
Otto's Daughter
The Azoic
Die Warzu

Not sure if anybody's heard of them. I thought everybody knew of them, but recently I was proven wrong. Everybody I know hasn't for some reason or other.

Cyberbat 01-25-2007 12:50 PM

Hmm, I throw these ones in for fun. Tragic Black and Carphax Files. Locals around these parts but I love their music.

Zenit 01-25-2007 01:27 PM

Cortez - local band in Stavanger. And no, not named after Cortez, murderer of South American peoples, but Cortez, the guiarist in the band:P

bleedingheart344 01-25-2007 03:45 PM

I'm interested in hearing some devil doll. And for the sake of this thread, Tony Danza's Tap Dancing Extravaganza, don't really like them, but I don't think anyone's heard of them.

the_dude 01-25-2007 08:26 PM

i almost auditioned for TDTE last summer. weird. hehe, they've been to dayton a bunch of times with psyopus and premonitions of war.
