Good Jrock Bands?

Know any good Jrock bands?

Draconysius 06-07-2007 10:15 AM

Eternal Elysium, though they're more of a J-stoner-metal band.
Akira Yamaoka, though he's more of a J-dark-ambient guy.

So, um... I've helped you not one bit. :p

bleedingheart344 06-07-2007 10:51 AM

Yup, Dir en Grey, Aikaryu, Phantasmagoria, Malice Mizer, Candy Spooky Theater, I can't think of any more on the spot like this.

Vako 06-07-2007 07:38 PM

Concerto Moon is a bit more metal. There's also Japan X, but if you want to go for something more 80's I'd say Loudness.

Vako 06-07-2007 07:48 PM

Oh, it's "X Japan", not "Japan X".

St._Exmin 06-08-2007 10:17 AM

These are some really good J-rock bands whose music is melodic and elegant.
  • Blood
  • Hizaki Grace Project
  • Moi Dix Mois
  • D
  • Rentrer en Soi
These are some heavier bands:
  • Dir en Grey
  • Vidoll
  • Gazette
  • Nightmare
  • Kagerou
If you're interested in older stuff, you could check out:
  • Luna Sea
  • Pierrot
  • Rouage
  • Fanatic Crisis
  • Laputa
And of course, it is essential that you go out and buy everything you can find by Malice Mizer.

Waki 06-09-2007 07:54 AM

Japanese goth bands:
Blood
Moi dix mois
calmando qual
eve of destiny
Baal
schwarz stein
Blam honey

Malice Mizer is a must!!!

St._Exmin 06-09-2007 09:06 AM

Eve of Destiny and Schwarz Stein are amazing; I wish the E.O.D. stuff wasn't so impossible to come by.

Waki 06-10-2007 04:00 AM

Don't forget velvet eden!
Too bad EOD didn't have much songs..

Ictum 06-10-2007 08:24 AM

Another one of these threads? :O.

Ayabie (Oshare Kei though)
Viored
Sa:die
Diru
Vidoll
MUCC - Personal favorite
Raphael
Blood

Find the music at the Tonberry tracker (http://85.17.36.92:6969/)

Uhm and yeah, don't label these bands as goth :o.

Though Vidoll/old Diru/Kagerou/new GazettE are in no way heavier than the bands listed as more "melodic" :).

LOL, it's true that all of them get pretty metallic at times.

The groups I listed in the 'heavy' category are the ones who perpetrate those screeching/gutteral vocal call and response bits and venture more often into Limp Bizkit territory (but look a million times better doing it.) ;)

I actually had a hard time getting into Dir until I heard the 'Gauze' album; once I could listen to their noisy stuff in context with songs like Yokan, it all made sense to me.

Dancing_in_rain 06-14-2007 05:35 PM

I love this question.
Well, the bands below are not all Jrock, but they're all Japanese and great.

- Dir en Grey
- alice nine.
- Kagrra,
- An Cafe (I had written a whole rant about them but then my computer made Firefox quit so I lost it. And I'm not rewriting it.)
- The GazettE
- Screw
- Moi dix mois
- L'Arc~en~Ciel
- X Japan
- Vidoll
- 12012
- abdingdon boys school
- Ali Project

CountSixstring 06-17-2007 09:16 AM

If you want to do regular J rock try The Pillows, L'Arc~en~Ciel, B'z, and basically anyone who's had a GOOD anime theme song. Good stuff that goths would enjoy would be Dir en grey(Personal favorite, try their old stuff first. Hearing the wrong song can TOTALLY turn you off). Malice Mizer is a must, beig a goth band themselves. BUCK-TICK is another good goth band and so is Kuroyume. MUCC rocks some good stuff too. Other than that it's good to find that stuff on your own.

Kitten of the Catacomb 06-17-2007 06:33 PM

Among the best are:
-Dir en Grey (definitely check them out)
-Yura Yura Teikoku
-Go!Go!7188
-Thee Mich elle Gun Elephant (there are no spaces between the second word, though I don't know why it's being asterisked out)

Waki 07-06-2007 09:05 PM

Btw. Malice Mizer isn't a goth band. They are a visual kei band (they said it themselves).

They are to themselves. They're not a goth band, but they carry the label and they bear a few of the fruits, so I gave it to them because goths would be interested. Mana calls them goth and has the gothic loli fangirls eating out of his hands(I hate them most of the time), but you're right, they aren't that goth at all.

Waki 07-17-2007 11:29 AM

I remembered that malice mizer emphasized on the fact that they were a visual kei band and not gothic. But come to think of it, I think they just said that so they would become more mainstream and appeal to the mass media.

raineofblood 07-20-2007 10:16 AM

I forgot entirely that I posted this thread ^_^"" thank you for the many many answers....*wonders how she's going to check out all these bands in only one life time* XD

biohazard 07-21-2007 07:11 PM

My favorite j-rock band is Dir en Grey. But I also enjoyed the band that plays the second opening in Death Note. I forgot the name of the band, but the second opening is called "What`s up people".
Some other good bands I know are: Mr. Big, Metronome, X Japan, Guitar Wolf, and Electric Eel shock.

bleedingheart344 07-22-2007 06:51 AM

I'd say Dir en Grey is leaning more towards jmetal now, the used to be Vis Kei on the first couple of albums, but became repeatedly heavier through the years.

thedoll 07-22-2007 01:21 PM

has anybody listened to S.K.I.N? Really good listen. Plus Gakt is their singer!

Ictum 07-24-2007 12:04 PM

Should be worth mentioning that S.K.I.N is a mega-group consisting of Gackt (Malice Mizer), Myv (Miyavi), Yoshiki (X-Japan) and Sugizo (Luna Sea).

Crystal Sorrow 08-26-2007 02:50 AM

Gackt, Asian Kung Fu Generation, The Pillows, Polysics, Porno Graffiti, L' arc En Ciel (most definitely!) Malice Mizer, Dir en Grey ( i so agree on those two)

bleedingheart344 08-26-2007 06:12 AM

Crystal Sorrow, do you happen to have anything by Porno Graffiti and L'arc En Ciel? I would love to try them out. ^_^

Yes I do, I have a few songs by them, I need to get more. I should do that and so might.

bleedingheart344 08-27-2007 12:09 PM

Do you happen to have either AIM or MSN?

raineofblood 08-28-2007 11:23 AM

Oh by the way, Raineofblood. Why did you neglect to mention the bands you already knew and or liked so you could save these poor people some time? Shame on you.

Miss_Nobody 09-21-2007 07:08 PM

GazettE and X Japan.

Miss_Nobody 09-21-2007 07:09 PM

Also The Portugal Japan and Gackt.

viscus 09-21-2007 07:20 PM

Check out Phaidia and Auto-Mod, they've made some pretty good (and non-Visual Kei) Japanese goth/death rock.

the_ink_bleeds_faster 09-24-2007 08:47 PM

These are the ones I listen to that you might like, I think I have good taste in music... I dunno...

Repeats GazettE, having just listened to the WHOLE Stacked Rubbish CD again...their old stuff is better though. They're getting too punk rocky for me...

Dancing_in_rain 02-11-2008 09:13 AM
