Silent Hill...
What a brilliant series in my opinion. I was just wondering if there were other Silent Hill fans on this forum.
My favorite two had to be the first game and Silent Hill 3. Oh, Alessa, you're just so damn cuddly. |
Very much in love with Silent Hill. Though I have to admit I've only played and beaten 4. It's hard to find the other ones around here.
Don't you love how Silent Hill doesn't even try to be serious. Sexy music during a serious moment anyone? How about a dog controling what was happening the whole time. Or those pink bunnies. XD Yes. There is someone on here who loves Silent Hill and more. o.O |
I like you even more now, Miss Cogs. xDD
Lmfao, sexy music. It's so true, too! I remember one part in Silent Hill 2 when James was talking to Maria, this... creepy jazz theme (like something you'd hear in a damn porno) was droning in the background. It made the character's conversation very awkward to say the least. xD So many sexual inuendos in Silent Hill 2, lol. But yeah, you can actually get Silent Hill 2-4 from Konami's website. They're only twenty or so dollars nowadays, and they have them for both PC and the PS2. The original Silent Hill, however, good luck finding that! xD I had to put out fifty bucks for the game and order it off the net, because it's considered a collectors item now. But man, was it worth it! For a PS1 game the graphics aren't half bad, and the story's pretty good. The voice acting, though... well, that's never good in Silent Hill games. They always sound so wooden, like they're reading from cue cards. |
I watched someone play most of the Silent Hill game, the first one, on Youtube. I loved watching it. Even had it on fullview. XD
Gotta thank Silent Hill for those awkward conversations. HEH! Henery..." What the hell..." He's main line in the entire 4th one. That's all he would say really. He had no personality. But you still gotta love him. Thank you for telling me, now I'm going to get the second one and the third and then a new playstation. Because the 4th one has a hard time playing sutscenes. >< |
Lmao. I got my Silent Hill 3 from the black-cats gaming torrent site! I'm so cheap....
Yeah, Henry was a very, very bland character. xD He kind of reminded me of Dr. William Birkin from Resident Evil 2. He had the scruffy hair and face, and looked all doped up on caffeine pills like he hadn't slept for days. And no problem, glad I could help point you in the right direction. =) |
Mmm, quite interesting games, those. Those are about the only types of media that'll scare me anymore - perhaps I've been too desensitized, but horror movies just don't do it. It's different if you're BEING a part of the story, if you determine the outcome and all the twisted nightmare fiends are coming for YOU. Adds a whole edge to horror ^^
It's kind of inspiring, actually. I'm making it a personal goal to make a horror genre video game that surpasses Silent Hill 2. |
Quote:
Of course he didn't sleep....he was too busy wacking dogs with a pipe and spying on his neighbor. XD |
Quote:
And day I'm sure it'll be very big, Clockwork. I wonder what you would call. How about, " The Horror Game That Surpasses Silent Hill 2 " Quite original I think. |

Another thing I liked about Silent Hill was the creativity of the monsters. They were all different and weird looking, but it was in a good way. xD Especially the Abstract Daddy, the monster Angela saw--that one freaked me out a bit. Oh yeah, and the whole "Pyramid-Head-Screwing-Mannequin" thing. Funny, actually--the guy who's behind the monster design, my friend Charlie told me he was literally schizophrenic and suffered from severe paranoia. I guess we all know how he comes up with the monsters now... he probably sits in the dark and imagines hearing and seeing things, then writes/draws them down. xD |
Quote:
Yeah, now I can see why poor Henry doped himself up on caffeine pills. xD |
Interesting, but I thought the monsters were based off of metaphor? For example, the abstract daddy representing his guilt for killing Mary...
Hm, regardless, it has a unique and stylized looks, and even inspired a monster to haunt me in a nightmare once x_x |
Quote:
Aww, I love the moster creator guy. Doesn't " Abstract Daddy " look like he's glued to a door or something. One thing I also loved about the monsters was that they had a very deep background to go with them. |
Quote:
They do have metaphors. Every single monster. |
Quote:
Yeah, the monsters are all based off of metaphors pertaining to that characters perception of their "Silent Hill reality." Like, for example, James saw Pyramid Head as he did because of the pictures he'd seen of the old Order executioners. And the Abstract Daddy wasn't a monster created by James' mind I think. I believe it was the manifestation of Angela Orosco's fear of her father. But I could be wrong. But yeah, I was talking about how the guy "brought to life" those metaphors. He made them look so twisted--it was great. xD |
Quote:
And yeah, I love how they gave each of the monsters a distinct meaning/background. |

I still can't get over Eddie's "Silent Hill Reality." Apparently all he saw was people laughing at him. Psh, I get it all the time and you don't see me shooting dogs and some guy in the knee (a bit of Eddie's background, if you didn't know). xD |
Of course I knew. Though I haven't played the games, I still look around on the internet. ^^
Prehaps Eddie, was a little more insane then you are and that is why he did what he did. |
Quote:
Dahlia Gillespie was pretty bad, too, though. Her one line: "IT WAS FORETOLD BY GYROMANCY," still makes me laugh my ass off even to this day. She says it so dramatically. xD |
I really like her character in the movie. Just the way she looked. She was pretty even though she was unkept and insane looking.
|
Quote:
In Silent Hill, Dahlia looked like a leathery-skinned skeleton. She had a lank jaw and these wild eyes, and she sounded kind of like "Mom" from Futurama. Lmfao. |

In short, everybody in Silent Hill is a drug addict. xD |
Gahaha! Yep. I want to see a version of the game where it shows the town in a veiw of a sober person. It would be so funny seeing some pixelated guy trying to shoot something with nothing in his hand and on the ground wimpering because he thinks he got bit from a dog.

*dies from laughter*. Everyone would be talking like these unicorns from this video. XD

DUDE, it's CHARLIE! xD
I love this flash... but yeah--Charlie would be Kauffman, the blue Unicorn would be Alessa, and Dahlia would be the pink unicorn. It's pure brilliance, I say! Even more so, considering they say "shunnnn the non-believer, shunnnnnnn, shhhhhuuunnnnnnn." |
I rather enjoyed playing the first game on playstation. I tried to play Silent Hill 2 on Xbox and gave up because the controls were all screwy (I don't play video games that often).
|
You can actually get 2-4 for the PC on Konami's homepage. They're only $20 dollars nowadays. Or you can do what I did and download a torrent. xD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdLDby67TE0 Just thought I'd share this amusing SH2 parody. |
Silent Hill 3 on the PS2 was my all time favorite. I felt that they spent the most money on that one to produce.

It just sounds really intriguing. It's already confirmed Dahlia, Alessa, Kauffman, and Lisa are in it--I forgot if there were any more, but I'll be sure to look into it and post details. =) |

But oh well--it's a worthwhile sacrifice if you're given the chance to look into Silent Hill's rather obscure background. Not too mention being able to explore the characters even further. |
I liked Silent Hill's THE ROOM, but preferred God of War...
|
The Room was all right, but to me it didn't feel too much like a Silent Hill game (probably because it wasn't really intended to be one). Three was the best out of the series in my opinion, alongside the original. Two was a bit mediocre, but good--and yes, I like God of War as well.
|
Quote:
Anyone up for those pink bunnies. In THE ROOM, if you look outside the window after hours of playing the game, you can see a pink bunnies head floating around outside. |

And I think I know what you're talking about, though I forget its name. |
Me too, I'm actually going to find more on it.
Actually here is the video I saw on T.V. It has your Robbie in it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=wdaSeHaWHrs I just need to figure out the name now....>.> |
I figured out what it is, it is " Silent Hill: Lost Memories " But I don't think it's a game. I think it might be a movie that was only released in Japan that has different little movies like ; Robbie the Rabit and that Pyramid Head ****** the monsters and that girl videos.

There, better now? ^-^ And oh my goodness, I think I'm going to die from excitement! I saw the trailer and some screenshots for Silent Hill: Origins, and let me tell you, that is one FINE looking game. |
it was maybe the best thriller i saw last year in the cinemas (Maybe the "Descent" was a bit better, i don't know)

If you enjoyed the film, I highly recommend you give the games a shot. They're better by a long run, though that isn't to say the movie was bad either. Plus, you can get all the games for twenty or less dollars nowadays, for both the computer and PS2. Trust me, you won't regret giving it a whirl... you may even become hopelessly addicted to it like me. xD |
The fact they didn't stray too far from the game storyline is what made it so good. I mean, it was a classic anime style story - a bit confusing and quite a leap from reality, not that normal horror flicks don't involve some type of suspension of reality, the idea behind the little girl and her history is confusing to some extent - it's a non-linear storyline that is simply brilliant.
I loved the games and the film. I have yet to play the room though... |
The Silent Hills are very very well done, 1 and 3 are considered the best in the series, 2 and 4 are considered out there.
1,3 are connected, as well are 2 and 4. James Sunderland is the Ghost in Henry's room, he lived in that apartment before disappearing. Now, 2-4 have STRONG sexual themes, most notably in 2, because James was sexually frustrated with his marriage. Because his wife was sick, and horribly deformed, he couldn't do anything but care for her. Also, the Pyramid Head can be seen in a few scenes ****** the leg mannequins. Maria, a variation of Mary, was throw in to be the Temptress, and further frustrate James by getting him to feel for her, then getting killed. In one of the endings if you choose her over his wife, then they leave Silent Hill together, however she starts to show signs of the sickness that caused him to smother his wife in the first place. 3, the female lead was being sexually tormented, I believe it alludes in a few parts that she was molested, ***** etc. I think she also find out that she was an illegitimate child, and that kind of sends her over the edge. 4, the lead male, Henry seems to have no emotion at all. That everything is just taken in stride. This is in stark contrast to James, which is a good idea, considering it's James' old apartment. The only feeling he had shown was to the first woman he saw, and who acted very provocative around him. He was to serve as witness to all the brutal murders of Walter, so he could be the final sacrifice. Walter chose him for this task because he is very disconnected with reality, and would have been the most logical choice, because most people would have more than likely taken their own lives. When he sees Eileen being brutally beaten, his lack of emotion confirms this. He is emotionally distant, as why he is a reporter, and it's this reason why he has been targeted by Walter. There is one chance for redemption, that Walter gives to Henry however, the scene where Walter tells Henry about Eileen being the only person to have been nice to him, and giving him her doll. He then leaves the doll on the steps, to see if Henry has humanity, in picking the doll up it shows that Henry cares about Walter, and intends to return the doll, or if he leaves the doll, that Henry is truly disconnected and thus proving his preconceptions true. The Robbie doll in the 4th game is a direct reference to the 2nd game, in the fact that it was the main characters favorite doll, and Eileens favorite doll. The creepy scenes where it shows the previous victim pointing to the next victim is very ominous. When Braintree gets electrocuted in his own chair, a shadowy man can be seen from his apartment window pointing up towards Eileens apartment. Then after Eileens brutal beating, and after shes been rushed to the hospital, a quick peek through the peep hole shows the once slumped over Robbie doll, now staring squarely at you pointing. That is the single most freakiest part of the silent hill series, I have ever experienced. |
