Skullie_Newbie/Punk

Hello.

I named myself simply enough, and don't expect to be called anything other than skullie or some other form of nickname other barely non-exsistant beings may devise for me. (Assuming, as it usually is, that I would prefer to not be on a first name basis with total strangers, as would be the case for now.) Although, I am not particularly open to new people, I do appreciate those charasmatic enough to talk to.

I am more of a Punk than a Goth. I'm an ambiguous entity. I prefer it that way, at least up until we have arrived/stumbled upon that subject, properly. I appologize but, "A/G/L?" Is not a very appropriate greeting in my eyes.

I also may be more polite some days than others. Sometimes, my language may be more like old english and others, just like a punk. No worries, I self-edit what I write.

I am NOT a complete socialite and sometimes do withdraw to myself, quietly and content to be alone. I am something of an introvert; A little more eloquent, and something more open than I used to be. I can not be expected to get online all of the time. Therefore, please do not assume that my "anti-socialness" for any length of time suggests a state of comatose. I am still, (however vaguely, I may be) alive and healthy.

I do also have a tendancy to get quite depressed. (A case of depression, it seems, ho-hum) I am not really a depressing person; I am a joyous person most of the time, and that is, actually, just how I am. Hey, that's life.

And, no, I do not cut. I do have something of an obsession with blood, however.

I like Metal and Rock... I like dark humor, Tim Burton, Action-Packed Videogames (PS2), Writing and Drawing. I adore Jhonen Vasquez for JTHM and Invader Zim, mainly (I go to Jhonen's live journal on occasion because, he just flat out makes me laugh). JTHM made me laugh ten times harder than Zim, if that makes any impact on people.

I do not enjoy being "Admonished" with the wisdom of one religion over the other. I will converse about similarities, differences, oxymorons and such as I am atheistic, find some of these topic interesting and believe that people should do what they believe is right. That being said, I would not be presumptuous enough to hate a person for their religion.

I also do not really "intend" to be a n00b or a loser, part of the problem with that being, I am not. I do not want flames. Hopefully, most the people on this site will be polite enough. I am going to blindly assume that this is true because I want to believe it.

Bete Noire 12-09-2007 04:15 AM

Out of interest, which part of punk do "Metal and Rock" fall into.

Give us some bands you like.

And welcome.

Stormtrooper of Death 12-09-2007 09:43 AM

Hmmmmmm, someone challenges my throne of punkdom. Well lets see what bands you like. Then we'll talk.

Wormboy 12-09-2007 09:59 AM

I like this kid. SoD, calm down no one is challenging anything. Welcome skullie ^_^

Alexander IV 12-09-2007 10:15 AM

hello skullie
I hope you enjoy your stay here
So you love Mr. Vasquez work too
I love JTHM
also have you ever heard of Squee and I feel sick
( other work hes done)

Stormtrooper of Death 12-09-2007 10:16 AM

Sorry, about that guv'ner!

korinna5555 12-09-2007 10:48 AM

Oh my gods! They use proper grammar and spell correctly!

WELCOME! :D

KontanKarite 12-09-2007 10:58 AM

Welcome. Being that I have no idea what is good punk and bad punk, I look forward to you enlightening me.

I would say that exposure to punk in my eyes, helps me understand my own roots a little better and in that, I like it for the educational aspects of it.

Gothic.net needs more punks I think. But that's just my opinion.

skullie 12-09-2007 11:47 AM

I like alot of Bands.... Trivium, As I Lay Dying, Atreyu, Kreator, Shadows Fall, Dark Tranquility, Adema, Saliva, Korn, Creed, Queen, AC/DC, Ozzy Osborne, Aerosmith, Flyleaf, Fallout Boy, etc, etc...

Yes, I was challenging your punkdom but, mine exceeds all expectations! ^_^

Squee is only one of his comics. He wrote Johnny the Homocidal Maniac, Squee, I Feel Sick, Everything Can Be Beaten, produced a Music Video, Mindless Self Indulgence -Shut Me Up, Made the Johnny Faces Poster and a Painting called "Screws and Bolts" I believe. I don't really remember... Been a while since I checked.

Heheeh ^_^. And, yes, I do use proper grammar.

Nice to meet you all!

Godslayer Jillian 12-09-2007 12:02 PM

You left me without words, I don't know if you played an awesome move that got me all confused, or you were serious about your bands.

gothicusmaximus 12-09-2007 12:15 PM

Yeah, looks as though SoD gets to keep his 'punk throne'... which is cool, I guess?
Anyway, welcome to G-net.

KontanKarite 12-09-2007 12:18 PM

Welcome regardless. But SoD... yeah, he's deff the house punk of G.net I think. No offense, SoD.

Same state of confusion.

Do you actually believe that that stuff is Punk, and need a shot in the head and an unmarked grave, or was it all a joke?

Godslayer Jillian 12-09-2007 01:04 PM

Wait, Bete, despite that, he seems a nice person. Let's set his musical persona aside from the rest of his personality.

skullie 12-09-2007 01:13 PM

No, I don't believe that. Glad you guys understand. Haha. No, but I do listen to them. I am more open than most to different genres of music. I don't like labels, that would only be a part of the reason why. I also live in a place that shuns Goths, Punks, Rockers... Everything not already engulfed in Rap and Pop culture. So, my knowledge of good bands is infact limited. Therefore, I am open to suggestions.

The facts belows are downright depressing and I don't expect pity.

The people here consider the "bump and grind" an actual dance move and always have. They are closed minded people. Generations after generations still have the same taste in music, fear change, dance the same, sing the same, and eat only prepackaged meals, happily. (And we wonder why they are all obese?)

The Majority consists of Drop Outs living on minimum wage, too lazy to get their own jobs and uninterested in higher education. The teachers don't like me here because I am an intellegent human being and want to go to college, preferably for art.

They fear me because I am different. I don't care what they think. The general public is stupid.

Besides, not liking labels doesn't justify liking bad music.

skullie 12-09-2007 02:11 PM

I have explained everything you need to know about me to know that. And why call the site gothic? In all reality only closed minded people believe in labels.
I picked a "gothic" site because as I previously stated, I wanted to meet open minded individuals. You obviously just don't like me, so leave.

Still sticking to that?

skullie 12-09-2007 02:17 PM

I might be a nice person but, I'm not a suck up. Just because that person doesn't like me, does not mean I am going to start waiting on her hand and foot and trying to "become goth" just like everybody else. What makes me a "punk" is that I am who I am and there is not anything anyone can do about it. If you like me, great, If you don't it doesn't matter because I simply won't associate myself with you. I am me. Get used to it.

Godslayer Jillian 12-09-2007 02:25 PM

Dude, that was so stupid.
First of all, I was the one to say you were a nice person.
Second, you say only close-minded people label themselves, and yet you continue calling yourself a punk. I don't care what definition you give to 'punk', it's still a label.
Thirdly, if you assume that only close-minded people label themselves (which is a close-minded statement in itself) then you cannot expect to find open-minded people in a labeled site, can you?
Fourth, you are calling me and this site close-minded because I contradicted you. That's close-minded, childish, and idiotic.
Need I continue?

I was attempting to point out that that is what people believe I am.
The thing that pissed me off is that you WERE the person that said I was nice and then all of a sudden you decided I had bad taste, a judgement based on less than ten bands and written in my introductory post.

Why do I have bad taste? Is it because I actually opened up to the Metal genre, the fact that I'm not ashamed to listen to "emo" music, which, In fact is mostly industrial; the only reason people call it "emo" is because they don't have the intelectual capacity to understand it rather than label it. They do the same thing with people. And always with me.

My meeting with you seemed nothing more than an online version of my local treatment. Nevermind. It's my own fault for talking to you.

Godslayer Jillian 12-09-2007 02:37 PM

Please tell me when you said 'mine exceeds all expectations' you were joking.
EDIT: Also, please tell me you were joking with the emo thing. None of the bands you mentioned are emo, so why do you bring that up? You're calling on me about how I don't know about 'emo' when you just started talking about it for no reason at best, and don't know yourself what it is at worst?

skullie 12-09-2007 02:39 PM

Yes, Godslayer, That was intended for nothing more than laughs. Why are you so serious?

skullie 12-09-2007 02:48 PM

I'm not going to try to make you happy but, I will say this; I seem to have a mobrid, self-destructive interest in your posts.

Stormtrooper of Death 12-09-2007 02:49 PM

Yet you havent mentioned any punk bands. C'mon lets hear it! And to Kontan I am THE house punk! No one challenges me and gets away with it!!!!

Motorhead, The Outsiders, Sex Pistols, Crisis, Pure Hell...

Ah... damn.. My little bro wants on......

I'm only going to be on a few more minutes.

Edit: You feel pretty strongly about this, don't you? ^_^

Stormtrooper of Death 12-09-2007 02:59 PM

Motorhead is not punk. They are a British heavy metal band. I like the Pistols, so I'll give you that. I havent heard of the others. You need to do your homework on punk rock dude. Really, I could recommend stuff that would blow your mind. Still, I AM THE PUNK ON THESE MESSAGE BOARDS!!!

Okay, Suggest away. But blow fast because I don't have much time. Haha. ^^

Edit: Come on, Blow my mind! I love it when that happens!

skullie 12-09-2007 03:07 PM

Okay, I am being kicked off, I will return tomorrow. (Or possibly later tonight)

Stormtrooper of Death 12-09-2007 03:09 PM

Ok young apprentice, listen to the master. Here we go: British Hardcore: GBH, Abrasive Wheels, The Varukers, Vice Squad, The Exploited, Drongos for Europe, English Dogs(only the early stuff)

American Hardcore: Minor Threat, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, The Germs

Anarchist Punk: Crass, Conflict, Subhumans, Anthrax, Zounds,

Crust punk (this is REALLY hard to get into):Amebix, Antisect, Doom, Misery, Nausea

I could list about 75 more bands but time is short. I am the guru, you have questions, you ask me.

FYI, "gothic" is an adjective pertaining to architecture and literature. "Goth" is a label, and maybe not even then, as no one can ever seem to agree on what exactly it is.

Also for the record, from what I understood, the punk movement was not about "being yourself", it was about being pissed off at the world for being the fucked up place full of assholes that it is, and (in the case of the bands) expressing that anger through music. Of course, I could be wrong, so SoD, feel free to correct me.

Stormtrooper of Death 12-09-2007 03:45 PM

Yes, I would agree with you Breathless Horror. I'd also add its about DIY too. LOTS of DIY. How do you think we make our studded jackets? Hell, I put all the studs in by hand on my jacket, all 250 of em.

Don't get me wrong, I really like As I Lay Dying, I LOVE Atreyu, I like Adema, Saliva, Aerosmith, Fallout Boy, Creed mostly, AC/DC, and Queen. But if you call yourself punk, please make at least 50% of the bands you list punk, or even close to punk.

Breathless Horror 12-09-2007 05:03 PM

True enough, a LOT of DIY, but I'd say that stems from a) a lot of the original punks were working class brits, who couldn't afford pre-fab stuff, and b) There wasn't really anything catering to thier tastes, so they had to make it themselves. I'm sure the motivation behind it now is more aesthetic, but I'm pretty sure thats how it started.

Demonstrates submissive tendancies through strong interest and enjoyment of being patted on the head. ^_^

wonderland 12-09-2007 06:09 PM

You should probably brush up on your definitions. From what I've read, I don't think you fully understand the following words and/or phrases: gothic, punk, metal, emo, industrial, closed minded, different.

That is all.

Stormtrooper of Death 12-09-2007 06:09 PM

Good apprentice, you too shall learn the ways of a punk rocker.

Green.Lady 12-09-2007 07:49 PM

I cannot believe you just implied that any of the bands you listed were industrial. Please read up on Stormtrooper's list - and you might want to find out what "metal" is, also.

And, in my opinion, punk may have to do with going with what you believe in, but it is first and foremost about loving, living and breathing punk music, just like goth is first and foremost about loving goth music. 'Tis simple.

Welcome, and I hope you learn a lot here.

Sir Canvas Corpsey 12-09-2007 08:48 PM

It's times like these I just end up saying that I like a 'variety' of music, saves me the trouble.

Anyway welcome to this wonderful world!

In regards to flaming...it looks like you might have sparked something by mentioning 'punk'..but welcome!
