Top 5 Media Whores

I have been watching the news rather closely for the past month and I can't help but laugh at people who will practicaly would sell themselves to Satan himself for a few minutes of media attention. Here are a few of these 'Media Whores' I have been paying attention to here lately:

1. Cindy Sheehan
2. Joe Wilson (CIA Leak)
3. The entire Democratic Party
4. Hilary Clinton (She needed her own space)
5. Pamala Anderson

Nardol 11-12-2005 11:37 AM

Agreed

I'd say that's a pretty acurate list. I really couldn't change more than one of the people, or more them more than one or two places up or down.

Loy 11-14-2005 04:32 PM

Yes, because all of them have unlimited access to media outlets, and their points of view aren't homogenised for public consumption, scrutinised by media pundits (who obviously wanna push forward these guys' point of view), and these guys control what goes into the media in regards to them.....

I'd call you a dumbass, but considering your post, I think it'd be redundant.

secretboy 11-15-2005 12:28 PM

So, wait, the definition of media whore has been changed to "person in the media whose politics the poster doesn't agree with"?

Yay!

Consider the vast colletion of different opinions expressed on this board, we've now labeled...gosh...the entire fucking media and every politician as a media whore.

AlKilyu 11-15-2005 12:37 PM

I'd agree with the list had he bumped Pamela Anderson and added Paris "My Gash Doubles As A Carry-On For My Doggy" Hilton.

thats what i assumed. man, the day i ehard about paris hilton was the day i broke my face on my bike. everyone was tlaking about how lucky she was and pretty and stuff and since then it was an explosion of Paris in the media. gaaah, really makes a person resent someone.

Una 11-17-2005 04:30 PM

why is paris hilton even on t.v.? It's not like she does anything except her family's rich!

AlKilyu 11-17-2005 07:29 PM

Plus she always does the same stupid pose. She isn't remotely pretty, plus she's cockeyed...which is the opposite of "the eye thing".

Manimal 11-18-2005 01:20 PM

I'd still like to stab her crooked eye with my dick.

Saturnine 11-19-2005 07:40 AM

i never even noticed her crooked eye. i guess though other than the blips about her on television, the only time i ever saw her was in that sex tape on the internet.

and i'll hafta admit i think i watched a special on her once that made her out to be teh victim. i wasnt sober though, so i dont remeber more than that really. oh and how she had a huge party in japan for her "japanese friends" and how japan was confused and didnt even know who she was. i laughed. those types of parties happened a lot. everyone was like, why is she important? man. so silly.

Surgeon Méchant De Sang 11-19-2005 01:41 PM

She's as artifical as the Sweet N' Low that I put in my iced tea.

A fierce bomb explosion may have striked Michael's face so many times that it cannot be recovered to its original form, but musically, he does have talent. He can sing, dance and write songs. Although, Michael doesn't received much attention for his music and only for his childish life he is currently living, I have to say I'm actually intrigued with the media's portrayal of Michael Jackson. His current state is no longer admiring but more so laughable, which I think is good media mockery for entertainment value.

Re: Top 5 Media Whores

Yes, I'd agree that Paris Hilton is overexposed. I never have thought she was attractive (particularly after hearing her opine over and over again in a vapidly brainless fashion "That's Hot!") And I couldn't figure what anybody saw in her. But it was just another one of those things where I just shrug my shoulders and ignore it.

And frankly, I could care less if the Paris Hilton's and Pamela Anderson's (I'd DO her once for grins ... definitely .... no redeaming quality to that desire, it's just sport-f@c%ing) get a lot of face time on TV and in the press. As long as they are hawking their latest TV show or perfume or clothing line or book ... who cares.

But if they get on the air and use the access to champion a particular political view, then I have issues with it. For instance. if Carrottop gets 5 minutes of airtime on a newsprogram because he draws thousands of people to his shows every year, and then says to the reporter/interviewer "Yeah, I think Illegal Aliens are bad and should be shot," well, I have a problem with that. (I have no evidence that Carrottop has said any such thing ... it is just a made up example.)

These celebrities, athletes and artists who have an undue amount of access due to their talent and abilities should have to either demonstrate that they've done some homework and are reasonably educated about the position they are expousing, or they should shut up.

And I don't care if I agree with their views or not. For instance, I rarely agree with Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, but when they speak publicly they are eloquent and well-informed. And they are discriminatory about when they speak ... I have seen them on talk shows where the host had to draw them out with probing questions about their beliefs. This is not because they were hesitant or afraid to speak their minds ... they were just being conscientious of not speaking of politics in what was supposed to be an entertainment vehicle. I admire them for that.

Someone's a republican :P

AlKilyu 12-05-2005 03:57 PM

Damn right.

What happened to Sheehan was tragic, no one disputes that. But I've seen video of her speaking in public cursing at Bush before her son served. Her son didn't believe in her politics, but she is using his face wherever she goes is against his and the rest of the familie's wishes.

Not too long after she started she was giving her opinion on Isreal and Palestine, as if that had anything to do with her particular issue.

And the book! She wrote a book!

http://tinypic.com/i6mbmu.jpg
Yeah...I think her fifteen is juuust about up.

edible_eye 12-05-2005 06:34 PM

that /\ is just about the best damn pic i've seen all day.

The occaSional captoL letteRs are VERY irritating.

It's not quite as obnoxious as typing in all capitols.

But it definitely makes me think you're trying to make your typing look interesting because you don't really think you have anything interesting to say ... and you are so desperate for attention that you will claim that it's just the way you are.

Or do you really want us to think you have a spastic finger that cannot help but sit directly over the shift key?

Dark Art 12-12-2005 10:04 AM

Wow, that' s the exact opposite of my sister. Not that my sister isn't a good kid, she's just obsessed with fashion. Always dressing up, always putting on makeup, always reading the Shopaholic books...luckily she's actually a genius, or I'd be a little worried about this sort of "airhead" behavior.
As far as media whores go...I don't think dissing an entire political party is very fair, reasonable, or likely to persuade anyone to your point of view. I'd say the Media Whores are:

1. Paris Hilton
2. Martha Stewart
3. Michael Jackson (although a case could be made in his favor saying that he didn't actually want all that media coverage)
4. Paris Hilton (she deserves to be on here twice)
5. ...okay, I can't think of anyone else. Someone help me out here.

HA! Rep for you! That was great!

Oh and protests=negative attention, so I think it is fair to say that a perticular side loves to bathe in the media attention that they get from being arrested at some unruly rally.

Whoops. The n00b stuck her foot in her mouth.
But do you own a book called Fashion's Top Ten ? And read it religiously?

katsumy 12-12-2005 03:43 PM

I agree.... they are so plastic and sluts to death !

Dark Art 12-12-2005 04:24 PM

I'm partial to Cosmo, myself.

rockandrose 12-12-2005 05:07 PM

Xng, what magazine is "W"?

I love the Italian Vogue the best.

ThwanCondu 12-12-2005 07:01 PM

I love that Gothic King (eighth poster) is a "babygoth".

Amen, Ben. I still recall the ire the Dixie Chicks called down on themselves for the way told a London audience they were ashamed George Bush was a Texan.

There are ways of expressing yourself. Alec Baldwin didn't score any points, either. They both came off like people pitching temper tantrums. Sarandon and Robbins sounded informed.

Just one example. Whatever your politics, if you're a celebrity at least try to sound adult and informed before you shoot off your mouth, please. Yeah, free speech, but if their celebrity status gives them access to my living room I'd like a little thought before they mouth off.

No one should apologize to members of another country that someone is from their home state. That's way too personal an attack. And to threaten to leave the U. S. if they get elected? Please. That's like saying, "I'll take my toys and go home."

Dark Art 12-13-2005 12:02 PM

Yeah, you're right. I care about how I look, but I'm not really into fashion. It's so funny, my sister likes to give me advice when we go shopping together. I think she's under the impression that if she doesn't, I'll end up looking awful. :)

Xnguela, are you going to be a designer?

I always felt that everyone overreacted to the Dixie Chicks. It was just one comment. Personally, I don't really care about an actor or a singer's politics. Just because I don't agree with them doesn't mean I can't enjoy their movies or their songs. Unless they do something really outrageous. Tom Cruise kind of crossed the line with his deragatory remarks about post-birth depression and medication.

Wait! That's it! Number five!

Top Five Media Whores
5. Tom Cruise

Dark Art 12-13-2005 04:13 PM

It would've been cool if you'd been a designer (I would've bought your stuff) but hey, being a teacher is awesome! I'm majoring in English and English Ed myself. Any particular reason for sociology?

Top 2005 searches on AOL Search:

Top Celebrities:

2) Oprah Winfrey
3) Jessica Simpson
4) Britney Spears
5) Lindsay Lohan
6) Pamela Anderson
7) Angelina Jolie
8) Jesse McCartney
9) Hilary Duff
10) 50 Cent

"The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves..." - from Julius Caesar (I, ii, 140-141) by William Shakespeare

Pun intended.

Dark Art 12-14-2005 12:48 PM

Ooh, wait, maybe Britney Spears is number five. Yes, Britney Spears is definitely more of a media whore than Tom Cruise.
Are you going to teach college or high school, Xnguela?

Dark Art 12-14-2005 01:04 PM

Me, too. I wouldn't mind teaching college, though. But junior high...forget it!

Bride_Of_Satan 12-15-2005 01:48 PM

I agree Paris Hilton should be on that list.

If I'm bored enough I'll randomly decide to watch The Simple Life. Honestly, I think it would all be porn and obsessed "Omg! That's hot!" if Nicole Richie wasn't on it. She's a pooch-obsessed slut and that's all she'll ever be!
