Groovy, Man
Okay.. the intro threads are boring. You all need ME to liven them up!
1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job) Uhm.. lotsa stuff? I'm a fucking weirdo, and.. I'm a hippie punk with good taste in Goth music, mmk? I love Dancing Bears. 2. Where are you from? I don't know. 3. Who is your favorite author? I couldn't possibly have a favorite. 4. What are your favorite films? Gypsy 83, The Hunger, Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Lost Boys, Dances With Wolves, Tristan and Isolde, Secret of Roan Inish, Braveheart, Phantom of the Opera.. 5. What music do you want played at your wedding? We will probably end up playing our own music. It's what happens when you marry a musician. 6. At your funeral? Bah.. who gives a shit. 7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die? I'm not ever going to die. There is no such thing as death. 8. What kind of casket would you want? A ship funeral. See Tristan & Isolde for details. 9. What's your FAVORITE outfit? Right now I'm wearing a tie dye shirt and boxers. I prefer to be naked, but it's winter. 10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid? I don't miss it. 11. What's your favorite band? Lately I've been on a Beatles streak, but it changes constantly. 12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major? I am self-educated, though I am forced to attend high school. For what purpose I know not. *sighs* 13. Why did you join? I've been here forever. I don't even REMEMBER. 14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender? I happen to be female. |
Youz back! Yayness!
|
I can't stay away!
|
Yeah, I know what you mean. Even with all the drama, all the stupid bullshit that goes on here with people being twats, I just keep coming back.
|
Exactly!
I am off to go make dinner now, so see ya! |
Enjoy!
xcxc |
Fuck yeah! Korinna is back!
|
Yep yep yep..
I claim title of Resident Hippie! :D |
Why hippie?
|
Welcome back to the boards!
|
Because.. why NOT resident hippie? I mean.. hell.. unless Mir wants it :D
|
Ugh. I'll hold my tongue, otherwise an argument will probably break out.
|
To hold one's tongue is the least civil thing a person can do. Else the world would become dreadfully boring. After all, arguing is one of the chief means by which quick-witted people can pass the time.

Ok, fine.
YOU'RE NOT A FUCKING HIPPIE. You never were, and never will be. You're not burning your bra for women's rights, you're not a part of the civil rights movement, you don't live in a commune with other people in paisley who oppose the Vietnam war, and you aren't getting tear-gassed for protesting said war. Real former hippies think people who claim to be hippies because they listen to psychedelic rock and smoke their brains into a slush are fucking losers. |
So glad you know me so well..
Would now be a bad time to tell you that I contacted several communes last month? Not to argue or anything, though. |

Even living in a commune wouldn't make you a hippie. The movement they were a part of is over. The situation that made their lifestyle possible no longer exists.
|
Oh.. gods Ophie.. can't you take anything lightly? It's not like I'm all "OMG I AM THE HIPPIEST HIPPIE OF HIPPIEDOM." I was joking, okay?
I am not anything by myself, and I know that. No point in this though. I won't continue your argument. |
MY argument?
Get off it, I said I wasn't going to say anything because I didn't want another stupid fight on here. YOU asked ME to say it anyway, so I did. So don't you dare say this is MY argument. |
You're the one with the problem. Your dissent equals your argument with me.. I don't care what you think of me; I was just curious about your opinion.
I'm just me, and I refuse to sit her and tell you all the ways that I am "a hippie".. that would be the same as agreeing with you. I'm just ME. Justin wants me to add that you need to get laid. |
Quote:
PS--I get laid with a decent frequency, and even if I didn't, I can function without sex. I guess you and Justin can't. How primitive. |
What can I say.. I find primitivism FASCINATING! How did you know?!
|
Oh, by the way, my mother (who was actually part of the movement in question), agrees with me and thinks kids like you should just grow up and get jobs and actually contribute to society instead of attempting to go against it and leech off of people who actually are educated and do something with their lives.
EVEN THE ACTUAL HIPPIES GREW UP. |
Growing up.. you should try that sometime.
|
Oh, you mean like how I have a job, pay bills, go to school, and take care of myself?
You mean that kind of growing up? Or do you mean the kind where you get pregnant from someone who dropped out of highschool and sells drugs? Did you mean that kind? And yes, that was a fucked up thing to say, but don't YOU ever fucking tell me to grow up. |
Resorting to saying something that cruel just goes to show how immature you are.
|
It's not cruel, it's just true.
And even if it were cruel, that wouldn't make it immature. Just cruel. Besides, I thought you were happy with your life. If you were, why would me pointing that kind of thing out bother you at all? Seriously, I'm not even trying to hurt you, I'm making a point. Get a job, stop doing drugs, and make something of yourself. |
Oh man. Shut up, both of you. Korinna, you're not a hippie. Opheliaaa, you're too hyper. :]
|
I do feel bad about saying that, but seriously...I fucking said I didn't want to fight, and was definitely antagonized, and I even PMed her to try to end this crap.

You have so many facts wrong it's not even funny. |
Here here! Beers all around!! People can be very stupid sometimes, but other times they can be smart. Now for some GI, pogo you fuckers!!
|
No beer for me; I can't stand the stuff.
But on the other hand, I wouldn't turn down a glass of Lagavulin single malt scotch. |
Well, one of those to you sir. I prefer schnapps.
|
I used to participate in anti-war sit-ins in junior high, and then in high school checked the draft lottery every week to see if my birthday was picked, so that even though I wasn't old enough, my friends and I would all know "wow, I would have been dead in a few months.". We had calendars that marked the days until Nixon was out of office. I had long hair down to my shoulders and smoked. But I wasn't a hippie. I lived in Irvine before it was incorporated into a city, a very conservative part of Orange County. We were hypocrites. The real hippies scared everyone, because they had nothing to lose, and were betting their lives to make changes. They wanted to dismantle "The Establishment" (wow, that felt weird saying that after almost 40 years), of which Irvine was mostly comprised.
But you know what? Most real hippies of that time were gentle, peace loving folk and went to church and believed in God. They prayed. (sits back and reflects on his teenage years...) Wow. The Establishment. Now I are one. |
I must say that I am sick as fuck of people saying that there are no hippies anymore, there are, just like goth the subculture has changed a bit over the years and most of it is now under ground but it is still there. I am not a hippie, not by a long shot, but fuck if I'm not friends with a few
|
So...you know people who are fighting for the boys to come home from Vietnam and burning their bras for women's rights?
Call a shrink? |
Anyone been to the Batcave lately?

But seriously, 'hippies' were the proponents of a massive movement that developed directly from the American society and culture as it was during the period of that movement's prominence. Their emergence was a natural result of the prevailing mentality among the youth of that time, one engendered by the Vietnam war, the abuses of the Nixon administration, and an institutionalized racism the likes of which our generation can barely conceive. Eventually, of course, the Vietnam war ended, the government- for better or worse- regained at least a modicum of the populace's trust, and governmental bias against minorities was reduced such that it's now less blatantly inflammatory- thus, the hippie was, in a way, obsolesced. This is clearly different from goth, a music subculture. Our scene still exists because people still appreciate the music, and contributions to the genre, regardless of their quality, are still being made. There are no more hippies because the climate which conduced and sustained their existence has ceased to be. |

You either need to defend your opinion, or shut up. |
Quote:
And I'm not a hippie or a goth. |
Welcome back girl.
|
Quote:
As I said, what hippies did defined what they were. Their emergence was, in essence, a response to a certain state of affairs, and when that state changed, the subculture gradually died out, degenerating into a shadow of its former self- a bunch of stoned, jobless college students wearing tye-dye and hemp they purchased for 60 of their parents' dollars, possessed of no revolutionary impulse whatsoever. |
Magila, thank you.
Maximus, replace Vietnam with Iraq, Nixon with Bush.. There's plenty of discrimination to go around (STILL) I appreciate a healthy environment, and contribute to political activism, so though Goth may be about the music, the principles are the same - I am still supporting a movement that I care about. AND LIKE I SAID: IT'S JUST A TERM USED (half in jest) TO DESCRIBE ME ACCURATELY IN A NUTSHELL WITHOUT GOING ON AND ON AND ON. But whatever.. I now proclaim myself the official antiestablishment-pacifist-environmentalist-activist-commune loving-artist-musician-yaddaya of this board. I'm sure everyone will prefer antiestablishment-pacifist-environmentalist-activist-commune loving-artist-musician-yaddaya. :) |

um...Bush is no Nixon? Yeah he has more followers and smarter people pulling the strings, just because people don't know all of the administrations secrets doesn't mean they aren't there, hell most of the people who have worked closely with the federal government know that Bush has done more harm to the presidency and to our freedom than Nixon did (just thought I would throw that out there). As the child of a very active hippie I know that the movement hasn't died and that most of the causes that they fought for are still being fought, ending the war in Vietnam wasn't the only thing they worked for, it was just the most televised.
