Can you love someone so much it hurts?

So much that you don't care about all that they do wrong, that you are blind to their faults? That even though all the tears you cry are for them, they still don't seem to think it's their fault. How long can one continue to live like this? With so much into a relationship, and getting nothing back?

Well I can't do that.

Johnny Gnar Gnar 03-27-2008 10:10 PM

Doesn't sound like my idea of happiness.

Are you sure that love? If your crying everyday about this you should get out of there.

I'm inclined to agree. From what I've gathered, this other person is hurting you and you keep on looking past it. Now, while it's none of my business, and I could very well be wrong, my two cents is to get away. Find some friends. Get happy again.

Yes, if you´re an idiot sure you can.

I think HP hit the nail on the head with this one. Obsession and co-dependency are not love.

It's easy to love someone so much that it hurts, but proper stretching beforehand will usually keep it from happening.

Seriously, though, this sounds like a bad situation. I'll be the first to admit that I shouldn't be giving relationship advice, but I will echo the sentiments of Johnny, DtL, Humane, etc. It'll hurt for a bit, but move on.

Sure, if you like the wifebeating, drunken, whorefucking kind of guy.

SPC,

First of all, yes it is possible to love someone so much it hurts. Yes it is possible to look past their faults. Yes you are being codependent and you are enabling this person's unacceptable behavior, and yes you have received some excellent advice here. I suggest you take it. However, it is easy to give advice when you are outside of the relationship, and very hard to take that advice when you are inside it. Unless you are an amazingly strong person, extricating yourself will be difficult. Realizing that you are in a bad relationship is the first step. My suggestion would be to find someone you can trust and go stay with that person for awhile, because you need to distance yourself from the relationship so you can 'get your head on straighter.' Preferably that trusted friend should be of the same gender and preferably someone who will not try to hit on you, which will only make matters worse. (The reason I suggest this is because a bad relationship can be emotionally addictive, and you will need someone to help you get through the 'withdrawal' symptoms). Good luck and hang in there.

...I know how you feel completely...

It sounds less like love, and more like idolization to me. Sort of like. (Oh, who the hell are the kids into these days....Oh.) the George Stephanopoulos craze that's going on.
