Dayvon Love and Deven Cooper are both awesome people and this is I believe the first time a UDL (Urban Debate League) has won the the tournament. This is history.

There are afew definitiona you will need because debate lingo is used.

Fiat: Fiat is when teams imagine that the policies they support are passed.
SO then instead of arguing about if congress man X will vote for it or w/e else. You debate about what happens after its passed. About Impacts that will come from this.

Fiat fantasy: the imaginary world that debaters live in during the debate round where there plan is passed a nuc war is imanent (sp?).

Harms: Whats happening in the statis quo.

Inherency: Why it need to be fixed

Plan: How you or your case intend to fix it.

Solvency: How your plan solves the problem.

Link: how the negative counter plan (if there is one) is connected to the Affirmative.

Kritical debate : when you debate in a way (that usually uses phylosophy) that challenges the way we debate and what the effects of our actions in debate are. It sometimes becomes simply debating about debate.

This debate is dont with much speed. So it might be hard for a non debater to keep up. Try your best.

So what do tell me what you thought of it?

I hope some one actually takes the time to watch it.

BLEED REBELION!!! 04-16-2008 05:42 PM

Stormtrooper of Death 04-16-2008 05:44 PM

I'm that quick. I watched a bit of it, but what I saw, was interesting.

BLEED REBELION!!! 04-16-2008 05:45 PM

Any opinions about it?

LaBelleDameSansMerci 04-17-2008 07:16 AM

I'm exhausted from listening to that guy. In any case, it seems to have stopped loading or something, so I only got 10 minutes in.... But I'm sure it would have been interesting.
Does the whole thing consist of people talking that fast?

BLEED REBELION!!! 04-17-2008 12:56 PM

A "stadard" policy debate goes like this

1AC (1st affirmative constructive speech)

Cross x (where the other sides asks you questions)

1NC (1st negative constructive speech)

Crossx

2AC (where you extend/defend the 1ac and respond to the 1NC)

2nc

1NR (1st negative rebuttal: line by line analisis of the debate, more Harms inherency solvency, w/e u want)

1AR (1st affimative rebuttal)

2NR ( Last speech for the neg. you tie up any loose ends, tell the judge why you win and what flaws the other team made in defending their case. Or technicalities or rules the other team has "broken" etc)

2AR (last speech all together.. you do a bunch of shit....)

And thats the way a debate looks on paper only way more lame because it was typed by me and i'm kinda out of it at this moment.

The rest of *THIS* debate is fast except for the 2ar which is moderate.

the 1nc is faster then the first speech. Thereason its so fast is because they need to get allot of info inot a short time slot..

The cross x is at normal speed.

There is a thing called a speed K (critique) thats the neg can use its about how speed decreases education in the round and is an exclusionary practice etc etc..

BLEED REBELION!!! 04-17-2008 01:01 PM

The first speech you saw was Devin... he was not too fast.. Its college so its slightly faster then Highschool norms..

I have spent hours memorizing paper so that I could read them at break neck pace just so I dont get spread by other bastard teams..

Spread: when someone reads a zillion arguments statistics etc against you at fast pace. Because thwey read so fast you dont have time to respond to it all unless you can read faster then them. And since you dont have time you "drop" arguments (dont respond to). In debate the normal understanding is if you dont refute/respond you agree by default.

So if they say they say "the other team supports hitler" and you dont deny it you then concede that its true by default..

So some people win simply by spreading the shit out of more novice teams...

I've got debate this quarter, so I know everything Bleed Rebellion was talking about, but our debates last about 8 minutes, we do it faster! ;)

BLEED REBELION!!! 04-17-2008 07:16 PM

Stormtrooper of Death 04-18-2008 01:51 PM

Yeah, senior year.

BLEED REBELION!!! 04-18-2008 01:53 PM

Cool!! Are you guys doing the Africa topic?

Whats your fave type of arg?

Stormtrooper of Death 04-18-2008 01:59 PM

No, we're doing universal healthcare. I always like to rebuttle, I like to argue.
