Tim Burton Writes Books?
Turns out he writes books but they suck.
I reviewed one of them. Guess what I said about it? http://www.printnpost.com/articles/6...ton/Page1.html |
Yeah. My friend bought the "Oyster Boy " book some time ago. I flipped through it. Yeah, I found it fucked up. I mean, I know that by NOW I should have seen enough things in life to desensitize me to a whole lot of unpleasantries. But this was just a parade of "fucked up." I think you were dead on when you said "This book is perfectly hatful, only offering further mental abuse and feelings of rejection to anyone who may have suffered any of these maladies." I think that may have been what bothered me about it.

Tim Burton isn't all that bad. It is a rather weird book. I have done a analysis on two poems from the book. One is actually okay. You can also look at the poems for your self to see what you think. I try to be fair whenever possible.
Jimmy the Hideous Penguin Boy (Reasonably good and almost elegant, while being extremely short.) http://www.printnpost.com/articles/6...ton/Page1.html Stick Boy and Match Girl (Shallow as Heck.) http://www.printnpost.com/articles/6...ton/Page1.html |
I've got a copy of that book. Admittedly they are a bit messed up, but I think that gives them an original touch. Also in all fairness even the title of the book ("The melancholy death of oysterboy & other stories) suggests that it isn't really a kiddie book and that it's going to be slightly wrong.
I think saying it's "hateful, only offering further mental abuse" is a bit harsh, it's meerly poems about people who don't fit in with society for one reason or another (even if the reasons are far-fetched). Personally, I think Catch and Tea & Cake are taking way too seriously what I see as a bit of light hearted reading. |
I want to read that book again. I also really enjoyed looking at the pictures as well. I felt sorry for Oyster Boy. There parents only wanted to have sex.

Tim Burton writing a "messed up" book?
UNTHINKABLE!!!!!!! |
I have yet to read it, but I think I will borrow my friend's copy, lest I waste my own money.

Maybe he should stick with his movies? I have to check out that book. |
Why do people call it fucked up?
It's not fucked up; it's just amateurish. |

Of course it's "thinkable". Also, I do agree with Jillian, it isn't really fucked up, AT ALL...of course, I was reading shit like The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things in 5th grade. |
I mean honestly, haven't any of you seen Frankenweenie?
|
"Even though Tim Burton is known for creating entertaining sets to entertain children.
Do not give this book to a child." I don't think many people would let a child watch Sleepy Hollow. He has made some rather adult films. I don't think the book is actually intended for children? |

I think the book is funny, personally, and I love it.
|
I like it as well. It almost reminds me of Amphigorey the teensiest bit, though a lot less amusing and, well, awesome.

The melanchony death of oyster boy is my faveourite book. It is both creative and entertaining, along with providing the odd laugh here and there.
|
I guess the book isn't so bad. I did another poetry analysis of "Brie Boy." It should be on the site tommorrow. It is another playful tale that makes people feel like S&$T.
http://www.printnpost.com/authors/29...ie-Christensen You know, you could comment there also. I guess there isn't much point because everything is discussed here, but you know. :( (Press the tab that says, "Articles by this Author.") |
I own all of the books he published so far -- they are wonderful.

I think that's why I like that book so much. It's the way they are written as if for a child to read. But reading into such poems as "the boy with nails in his eyes" you realise with a mixture of confusion and delight that this is far from the truth. |
