Mohawks

I just got myself a mohawk the other day.. I bought this super strong hairspray, which kind of keeps it up, but seeing as the front is long enough, it takes me a long time.. Anyone have any tips on keeping it up for a whole day, without it drooping or anything?

Thanks.. :)

Awww...mohawks are soo cute :)
And this is soo off-topic ;)

i know a few people with mohawks, somebody with a really long one said something about using coat hangers? I can ask her what on earth she actually does with them because i cant imagine..or just use a pot of gel....a spike!

Metatron 12-04-2005 11:43 AM

Aaaaaaaaaalrighty. You can use Elmer's glue to make it stay up for a long time, but the only thing is it dries your hair out something fierce, and it's a bitch to get all of it out. I'd only recommend that if you absolutely needed it in for a whole day. What I always used to do was to wet my hair, dry it (not completely), gel up a spike, blow dry the fuck out of it, hairspray the fuck out of it, and blow dry the fuck out of it again. Experiment, and you'll find something that works for you.

Alright, thanks. I'll try out different things.. and.. coat hangers?! hehe

When I had a mohawk *Not really...Kinda like Brody Dalle's from The Distillers* I used wood glue and gelatin.

rockandrose 12-04-2005 11:22 PM

Does anyone have any pictures?

Blushing Heliophobe 12-04-2005 11:29 PM

hehehe...my husband is punk, and this is what he used to do when he had a hawk...

Eggs. You use egg whites and let it air dry. If you don't mind being skanky, the eggs will hold for 3 days.

Too skanky for me personally but hey he says it works.

rockandrose 12-04-2005 11:35 PM

Yes, eggs is a typical ingredient used for dreadlocks and mohawks, in holding it's style.

Right the coat hangers..apperntly she streches them out and sort of moulds her hair around them with gel..it uses less gel, you cant tell she has them in because hers is really and i mean really long

Metatron 12-05-2005 01:22 PM

I don't have any pictures of myself, but I do have a couple pictures of my girlfriend when she had her mohawk...

That Mohawk is so fucking Hot! I love the way she wore her outfit on the top picture.

arent mohawks more punk then goth? just seems that way to me

but it looks super cute. I would use garnier super hold. works pretty well for my friend

Metatron 12-05-2005 04:14 PM

Thanks, I love her tons...I just look at mohawks as alternative since there are so many different ways to wear one. Color, size, and shape all say something different.

Jane13 12-05-2005 05:52 PM

She really is gorgeous!

... back when there was only one guy with a mohawk down here, he said he kept it up with cornstarch, hairgel, and rubber cement. HIS stayed up and looked good... now there are a bunch of kids that try to pull off a chickenhawk (they don't go all the way back) and don't bother making it look cool... oh-well. Good luck!

IlGato_DiDiablo 12-06-2005 03:24 AM

I had a mohawk a couple of months back... PVA glue works really well, it washes out easily and keeps the mohawk up.... You may want to consider using hairspray after you dry it with a hairdryer... Just keep those mini-hairsprays in your pocket or bag to keep it touched up.. Works really well. ;)

But hey, goths have refined (sorry, I dont know the actual word) from those punk-guys ;)

Metatron 12-06-2005 12:02 PM

I forgot another thing that works amazingly...clear geletin. Mix a little bit more than the normal amount, put it in your hair and let it sit for a while. Works like a charm...

Baby Black 12-06-2005 01:04 PM

Nice pic, she is super hot with the mohawk

slipshodsally 12-07-2005 12:05 AM

Well, I've never had a mohawk, but back in high school I dated a lot of guys with really tall hawks. They all seemed to have thier own magic recipe. Some used ingredients such as: elmers glue, knox geletin, corn syrup, hairspray, egg whites, laundry starch, ect. I think they played around until they found the perfect mix. I hope that helped! I remember one boyfriend's hair always smelled like lime jello. *grin*

rockandrose 12-07-2005 12:12 AM

In Australia, this year has been the metrosexual type "mohawk" trend, which is a much softer version to a typical mohawk. It's so annoying.

Then again, metrosexual guys are taking over Australia. It's scary.

Blushing Heliophobe 12-07-2005 12:31 AM

Oh yeah, also try Elmer's Blue Glue.

Chicks with blue hawks rock.

Reminds me of The Dead Milkman's 'Punk Rock Girl'!
