Valkyrie

Has anyone seen it yet? It's actually pretty damned good. I would reccomend it. It's about the dissenters of Nazi Germany and their attempt to pull off a coupe in Berlin.

Why is it called Valkyrie, any references to the battle maidens or is it just "oh that sounds cool!" sort of title?

Son of a bitch. Don't tell me you actually gave money to Tom Cruise.

"Operation Valkyrie" was the name of the plot to kill Hitler that the movie dramatizes.
Very few movies have entirely arbitrary titles.

I can't take any film starring Tom Cruise seriously anymore.

The best scene is when Tom is requested to salute Hitler by a superior and he seig hails with his arm nub. It was very 'in your face' and done in a way that was not as humorous or ironic as it sounds.

It was a good movie. Not exactly action packed or thrilling as the previews made it out to be. They actually show every single action scene in the preview. A gun fight, an explosion, a war scene, some soldiers running around. Other than that it was more Tom Clancy style and political. Lots of depth and twists.

As for the strengths. The characters were great and the costumes and set designs were the best part of the movie. The propaganda tactics and intimidation factors that the upper echelons of the Reich are reproduced very well.

Operation Valkyrie was not the name of the plot to kill Hitler, it was the name of a military strategy, meant to be used in case of a coupe, that was utilized by the plot to kill Hitler.

Dude, I fucking saw it for free. o_0

I bought Gran Torino tickets but they ended up not having any seats so I got refunded and saw Valkyrie instead.

... Y'know, in high school I saw this documentary on the same subject as this movie. When I watched "Valkyrie", it was almost like they took whole scenes out of the documentary... just replacing the main actor with Tom Cruise. Can I just point out that I liked the other actor better...?

KontanKarite 12-28-2008 01:41 PM

Something that I heard and it'll have to be traced. Tom Cruise is supposedly related to the character in the movie.

Necrotansy 01-04-2009 07:52 PM

I am sick of Tom Cruise.

menus era sota 01-04-2009 08:32 PM

that movie was the definition of suspense...and the Tom Crusie deal was partially remidied by his face kind of covered by an eyepatch, so not all bad.

Maxim_Macabre 01-04-2009 08:54 PM

Why are you still here...menus era sota...?

Actually, operation Valkyrie was Hitler's plan to ensure his government's rule in case of his sudden death.

Mr. Filth 01-05-2009 07:17 PM

I already pointed that out.
