The enemy of my enemy is my friend!

Obviously, the title is illogical.

But I'm wanting to understand something.

I am more than willing to admit that I haven't kept abreast with what's been going on in the Mid East as of late or much of anything at the moment for that matter.

But from the few discussions that I've seen here, I simply want to understand why one would ally themselves with a side in the Mid East when one should find that the fight itself is the enemy and not the people fighting it.

What I'm gathering and forgive me for simplifying this, but the conservatives are on the side of Israel and the Liberals are on the side of Palestine.

If we are to embrace the idea that Israel does not deserve to be a nation for example, then what is the solution for the dismantling of Israel? Where are we going to put these refugees who now have no home who are NOT exactly guilty of the sins of their fathers in the hypothetical event that Israel is rightfully given back to those that had it before?

So I suppose I have a couple of actual questions. What are your solutions to the problem if you were to stop picking a side to blame? Why side yourself with someone who if given the chance, would kill you and freely admits it?

Forgive me for not exactly being up to date on the current events.

I can update myself on the things going on right now. I guess I just want to understand where your guys' heads are at.

Have them both live where they are. Return the lands of the homes of the Palestinians who were driven off and bought by speculators. Offer a monetary restitution for the lands that stay Israeli, the country is too rich not to do that much.

That would be a nice beginning.

KontanKarite 01-08-2009 04:46 PM

Okay. That's cool. Sometimes, the drama presented in a lot of these kinds of threads can drown the point.

Joker_in_the_Pack 01-08-2009 05:00 PM

You can go with what Robin Williams said, "A time share, like florida. Christians would get Christmas and Easter, Jews would get Hanukkah and Passover, and Muslims would get Ramadan and that other holiday Kaboom."

Despanan 01-08-2009 05:30 PM

I've noticed alot of this sentiment here lately.

Lots of liberals seem to ideologically ally themselves with radical Islam because they define themselves as being opposed to George Bush. Which is freaking silly because if anything American conservatives have more in common with the ideologies of states like Iran and the like than the liberals.

Sterrn is a prime example of this from what I've seen. He hates on the US pretty hardcore, but in the end the United States/Israel has more in common with the values he seems to support than say, Palestine/Hamas.

Anyway, this goes both ways. There just seem to be more radical liberals on Gnet so I figured I'd bring up the liberal side of it.

For a moment I was going to argue about your likening Israel to the US, but then I remembered the slaughter of Natives and creation of religiously-driven laws.

I'm not on any side. I think that liberal doesn't mean you're rooting for either side, isn't that what being liberal is about? Liberation.

Godslayer Jillian 01-08-2009 05:42 PM

Stop talking.

mindless1 01-08-2009 05:47 PM

Me? I can't stop, Im mindless. If Im mindless I can't talk therefore you can't tell me to stop, also if I am mindless- you're just hallucinating and talking to yourself- which is easy if you answer the voices. I have tried, they just laugh at me and immitate that 70's show, no it's pretty fucking hillarious, to me at least...and I love talking and so I don't think Im gonna stop unless you say something really dumb...and I don't really give a fuck what you say. plus I am sick, yes, sick. Sick to the Stomach! You people are just drones

Or as KommandantK would say "Elitists"

mindless1 01-08-2009 05:48 PM

I love this song!

Godslayer Jillian 01-08-2009 05:48 PM

You think liberals means "liberation"
So conservatives means "conservation"
Because we all know conservatives are so environmentalist and holistic.

You suck.

Liberal is it's own side. Therefore is you wanted to really take no sides you would have to be independent, and even then you would still be leaning one way or another.

I've never felt as much pity for a living human being as I now feel for you.

I think the saying in the title should be revised to say, "The Enemy of my enemy is also probably a douche-bag"

I was more or less putting them together because Sternn tends to hate on the US through Israel in the context of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

I seem to remember him referring to Zionists attacking the innocent palestinians with "American Guns" or something.

Not much of a surprise mind you, since every conversation Sterrn has somehow gets back to how awful the US is; be it about Terrorism or Kittens. But still, it's worth bringing up.

Politics is mostly about teams rather than principles, so yes. You do see right wingers on one side of this issue, and left wingers on the other. Actually though, most people share a basic opinion on what has to be done. Namely, some kind of two state solution.

For the record, I am not unreservedly pro-Palestinian on this issue. The reasons I spend a certain amount of time complaining about the actions of Israel, and very little complaining about the actions of Hamas, are that (1) it's my way of making up for the gross imbalance in the zeitgeist, and (2) as an American I pay taxes which go to buy the bombs, which are also made in the U.S., that are dropped on U.N. schools and what not.

PortraitOfSanity 01-08-2009 09:47 PM

Kittens are eaten in China, which owns most of America. Therefore it's America's fault kittens are eaten. Duh.

Lol.

The teams even have team colors and mascots, for crying out loud. The only way you can not see it is if you're determined not to.

You sure spend a lot of time in every thread talking about me. I find it flattering. Every post you have made in every political/news thread is nothing about the topic, but about me. I didn't know you cared so much! ;)

Again, I'm not anti-US. If you think that, then your not paying any attention. I am a Marxist, as I said before. I hold an elected position in a Marxist, socialist, political party.

The views I have are shared by my friends, families, neighbors, and colleagues.

In fact, we met with various representatives from Hamas, who are allowed in Ireland because they are not considered a 'terrorist' organisation here. I also work with various Palestinian Solidarity groups who work closely with the political party I am part of. A mate of mine is current in the West Bank documenting this whole ordeal from there. You can see more of that here:

http://www.bilin-village.org/english/

And more news from my party here:

http://www.anphoblacht.com/news/detail/36263

http://www.sinnfein.ie/news/detail/36870

And if you want to read more, I am in the process of putting all the new press releases up, so I'll post a link to them as well.

So if you think I base my political opinion on some silly anti-US stance, then again, I must say, your not paying attention.

Don't mention it Unimatrix.

All joking aside, I have been giving you a pretty hard time lately, and I do apologize for it. I really don't mean to harass you, it's just that you post so many threads and every single time your opinions are so batshit-insane <---(I honestly don't mean that to be as rude as it sounds, I just can't think of another way to describe how I feel about your politics. Sorry dude.)

As for claiming you're not Anti-U.S.

I really don't know how to respond to that. From what I've seen that seems like Bruce Lee trying to claim he's not into Martial Arts.

King of the Strawmen right there.

It can't be a Strawman because it's not an argument. For my observation to be a strawman I would have to say that liberals actually do support the tenants of radical Islam and use that to argue that liberalism is therefore wrong.

You really need to learn what these terms actually mean before you start throwing them around JCC. Hopefully when you reach the 10th grade they'll let you take a logic class.
