The Spiderweb: shop

My cousin and her husband opened up a shop near the beach in Dania, Florida (between Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood). It's a very alternative shop with candles, hookah, clothing, tea, tarot, etc. If you ever find yourself in the area, check it out! I haven't been down since it opened so I can't give any personal opinion on the place, but I am sure it's awesome.

Here's the website:

My favorite part was this, "Attuning to the [tarot] Deck"

"Once you have found the right deck for you, we recommend a two-part process to prepare it for your use. You should leave the deck out in the sun for a day to cleanse it of any energy that might have accumulated at the factory where it was made. When leaving it outdoors unprotected is not an option, we recommend leaving it on the dashboard of a locked car. Next, you should charge it in the light of the moon (ideally when full). Again, the dash of a car will work well."

Sorry, I'm allergic to Wicca bullshit.

Kind of a cool website though, if you take out all the cliche witch rhetoric.

What else was there?

They are not Wiccan, and I am offended by your remark for multiple different reasons. I read the excerpt as being a joke, which quite frankly it may have been since my cousin's husband used to read Tarot cards for money and totally bullshitted it. They think the stuff is humorous, and you should have been able to read the sarcasm in the paragraph.

Interesting that they teach a class named "Wicca 101" then. But I'll digress on the Wicca argument.

So the tarot card part is bullshit?

Let's see what other bullshit we can find:

Candles ("Candles in the craft are used to help to increase a spell’s power, or to influence a particular power.),

Crystals ("Gems and Crystals have long been recognized for their powers in healing, divination and Magick.")

And herbs ("Asafoetida: Love, Exorcism, Wealth, Flying, Protection. Poppy Seed / Flower: Fertility, Love, Sleep, Money, Luck, Invisibility")

Man, my bullshit detector's going nuts.

That's a hell of a lot of expensive bullshit. Sounds to me like.....

A FUCKING SCAM

PoS, you're a real ass. True, they're selling that kind of stuff toward a certain type of people, but it doesn't mean it's a scam--some friends of theirs may be seriously into that kind of stuff and that's where they get such things from. Besides, Wicca itself isn't as shitty as people make it out to be, but all of the mallgoths and nu-pagans (not neo-pagans) bastardize it.

PortraitOfSanity 03-10-2009 09:16 PM

What exactly is there to bastardize about Wicca? The fact that the entire religion was created by a guy in the '50's who wanted to make some money on his book sales, so he crapped out a crackpot story that makes the Mormons and Scientologists giggle? It was a sack of bullshit from the get-go, don't try to tell me the little kiddies gave it a bad name.

And yea, I am kind of an ass, but I'm usually right.

Mealla 03-11-2009 11:47 AM

Eh, Wiccans and new-agers are fluffy, but I'd say Mormons and Scientologists are far worse than Wiccans. Wicca doesn't lead teenagers to kill themselves because they can't stop masturbating, nor has it caused a wake of mysterious deaths and ethical dilemmas regarding blackmail or forced participation.

PortraitOfSanity 03-11-2009 11:58 AM

Yea, I'd have to agree there, Wicca doesn't cause the physical harm that the other bullshit cults cause. I won't even start on the 20 kid families with parents who make little over minimum wage, or the polygamist Mormons.

But you have to admit, the premise of Wicca is just as dumb as Scientology's fabrications.

Pyre 03-11-2009 10:36 PM

I don't like or advocate Wicca, but it's a very harmless religion as opposed to so many others, so I give it a break. I just hate when religions are blatantly misunderstood--it severely irks me.

PortraitOfSanity 03-11-2009 11:05 PM

I don't misunderstand Wicca at all. I don't misunderstand any religions as a matter of fact.
