Hove can you say that Heathenism is bullshit? Manny of my friendes belives in and/or supportes the Aasatro. It is a religion just like Wicca, Christendom, Satanisme and other religiones. I dont mene to be unpleasant or to ofend you, i just want to know whye you came whit that statement.

Pyre 04-06-2009 02:14 PM

As soon as I saw your name I started singing Amon Amarth's "Twilight of the Thunder God."

Thor, Odin's son, protector of mankind, ride to meet your fate, your destiny awaits.

Because I believe it's true.
Heathenism is a bullshit half-assed faith in the same way Wicca is.

Dark Templar 04-06-2009 02:32 PM

Well, to be a bullshit faith, it shure is old. But i wont argue whit you. If OdinsXson wantes to belive in tha Aasatro he should be abole to do so whitout annyone flameing him for it. That's all i am sayeing

Beowulf 04-06-2009 02:35 PM

Hello and welcome, I hope you enjoy your time here !!!. :)

Ophelia, may I please ask what your beliefs are, and how you would feel if someone was disrespectful of them ?

Pyre 04-06-2009 02:44 PM

I have nothing against the Asatru, but I can see how one would call it half-assed. I am not sure that anyone who claims to believe in the faith actually believe that the gods exist. To me, the gods are more representative of ideals, similar to that of LaVeyan Satanism. I enjoy Norse mythology, and I praise Odin as if I believed in him, but I know he, nor the others, exist. Since I have only met one or two Asatru I cannot say this is how they all feel, but I would assume the majority (particularly in non-Scandinavian countries) do understand that it is simply mythology and nothing more.

I have no religious beliefs. I did once, and people were disrespectful of them. I didn't care, because another person's opinion does change or influence the way I believe or practice.

Old? Not really. Wicca is about 60 years old and Asatru is only about 100.

I will make the assumption this was intended to be "doesn't," otherwise the context is strange.

1. The Aasatroo got roots that is MUCH older that 100 years old
2. Bechouse everyone have the right to say and belive what ever they want.
But like i said, i sont want to argue whit you, although i admit that it is thempting.

The Asatru stick as closely as possible to the original religion, but they are still technically neo-pagan.

Having roots that are older doesn't mean the religion isn't a watered down shitty version of an already flawed belief system.

I'm not even commenting on the second part.

Dark Templar 04-06-2009 03:47 PM

You have a point there. Sorry if i have insulted you, it was not my intentione

In reality, aren't all religions (specifically older religions) watered down shitty versions of the original system? Or "shittier," rather.

odinsXson 04-06-2009 04:06 PM

Wow. My first post is starting a verbal battle lol. Ok NOw to the neo nazi that likes to belittle and question others beliefs, are you to shallow to ecpet that there might be a higher power? No, I'm just intelligent enough to realize that God is a myth.

Dark Templar 04-06-2009 04:20 PM

But still you are to narrow minded to see that it may be som shread of truth in myths? I agree whit you when you say that the Aasatro may be a whatered down versione of the faith of my anchestors, but i have to disagree whit you when your caim that there is no such thing as a higher power. But that is just what i belive. I dont trye to shovle my belifes up your ass, so whye dont you give OdinsXson a brake?

I wish there were a shred of truth. It'd be badass to breed a horse with a demi-god and make an eight-legged horse. That'd kick so much ass.

It's Nazi to question things?!
BAHAHAHA
I can imagine streets flooded in Nazi propaganda saying "Always question our authority" and "Be rational"

Becca_Lugosi 04-06-2009 05:20 PM

Wiccan is neo-pagan. [new pagan] It's -roots- are ancient.

As a practicing Wiccan of seven years, I do know what I'm talking about.

Wicca, as a true faith, is all about honoring the earth [Goddess].
Personally, any other deity form aside from the Goddess and the God [sky, heavens, Sun, etc.] is bullshit and belongs in mythology. Not every Wiccan believes as I do though. I don't support pantheons.

LaVey had it right. I dabbled in Satanism briefly. I have such a deep belief in karma and energy work that I couldn't flow with it. But the goddess/god archetypes are indeed qualities [goddess of creativity, god of fire, etc.] that people desired, that kind of belief and desire made it real to them, hence god[dess]forms.

I don't believe the Goddess is or ever was a real person...

Argh, a tangent is starting.
[I'll go on if anyone cares to read my two bits.]

Welcome, welcome...

Godslayer Jillian 04-06-2009 06:38 PM

Atheism's roots are even more ancient.

As an active atheist for five years I do know what I'm talking about.

Atheism, as a true point zero, is all about humility.
Personally, any kind of deity form with absolutely no excuse is bullshit and belongs in fairy tales. Most atheists believe as I do, though, because it ain't a pick-and-choose thing, but a mere absence of absurdity.

Buddha had it right. I dabbled in buddhism briefly. I have such a deep understanding in the liberation from everything and skepticism that I couldn't reconcile it in the end. But its nontheistic main tenets are indeed qualities [absence of sickness, spiritual richness as opposed to material opulence, etc.] that people desire, hence my tolerance to it.

I don't believe that any god is or ever was...
