Poetry is not something you just "have a go at", despite what some new-age twaddle may have you believe.

Actually considering it's nothing more than a form of art involving a roundabout way of conveying some sort of message through use of unnecessarily convoluted wordplay I would assume it is something you can "have a go at." It's not like it matters after all... whether or not it's considered good by people who have or claim to have credibility in the field.

Then again, I know absolutely nothing of poetry; I'm just make assumptions based on empirical observation.

Yeah, you can totally "have a go" at poetry. It's not like it's a sacred fucking art form or anything.
