Diminishing knowladge of the musical genres of today
 

I dunno if this should be here or in the music section, but seeing as I am basically whining, I suppose here would be a good place to put it:
As of late, I have seen a frightening lack of knowladge of the musical genres of today.
Not just Gothic Rock, but anything really.
Lately, I was browsing Youtube and made a comment about Evanescense being a brilliant emo band. Then people went ballistic that they weren't emo.
I led their attention to the fact that their lyrics and their music is very emotional, but their arguments were, that Emo wasn't emotional, it was suicidal cutting.
Now, I may be wrong here, but I doubt it. But as far as I know, Emo is short for EMOtional.
And I see this a lot, some people claiming that death metal is not death metal, just very hard heavy metal, people claiming that goregrind is not goregrind but just very nasty metal etc. etc. etc.
People have no understanding of music genres anymore, and it annoys me.

Note: Some of my claims of these various music genres may be a bit off from the actual truth, and in such case, I apolagize and accept corrections.

Emo is short for Emotive - hardcore, as far as I can remember. I really doubt people care though...

I am actually pretty sure that Emo is Emotional.

It's either or actually. Emo emerged from the late 1980's DC hardcore punk scene. Stuff like Dag Nasty, Rites of Spring and Grey Matter.

Jesus, you're a fucking dumbass. Evanescence are alternative rock, emo is the emotive hardcore scene or the later post-hardcore scene. Evanescence fit neither description.

Anarasha, sorry but evanescence is NOT emo. Emo is, Alesana, As I lay dying, Brokencyde,The used, Cute is what we aim for, etc etc. Why are you listening to that crap anyways...it's so old school.
