Scorn
Being a huge Godflesh fan, finally got around to re-listening to Scorn's First LP Vae Solis, any other fans out there? Great album, the heaviness of it is just so good.

Plus, it's the same lineup as The A-Side of Napalm Death's Scum, so you really can't go wrong with it. |
No replies eh? That's cool, I'm turning this into the late 80's early 90's UK industrial metal thread. Today's artist, the almighty Pitch Shifter before they went mainstream:

I really like Godflesh too. Scorn is ok, not as good as Godflesh imho.
I already really like Pitch Shifter. |
Fuck yeah! Early Pitch Shifter is the best though, their first EP Death Industrial to Desensitized is the best, then they mainstreamed up the sound and sold out.
|
How about them Nine inch Nails! there preety radical dont you think? i kid i kid.
|
Funny stuff there.
Today is more monolithic shit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwGaL...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbhxi...eature=related And to throw a less know band in, Dead World: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z41c7W0hcxY Heavy stuff! |
I'll boil the tar, someone get some feathers.
|
shit. dont do me! i was only joking! there genaric and boring as fuck i know!
|
You spelled generic wrong Jake.

oh, Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is good though. ya, everyone berate me. |
Nine Inch Nails are good.
Anyone here a fan of the White Stripes? |
NIN aren't good. They suck in my humble opinion. But back to the thread:
I'm just going to turn this into a "SOD posts weird and good music thread" so here we go, a switch to some excellent post-hardcore from one of the best bands of the genre: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t66ghrhGEdA Been looking for this album, Strap It On, too bad it's out of print. |
Helmet is good, NIN can be ok sometimes. helmet reminds me of Foghat, because they are both headwear. yes, shallow reason I know, good band though.
|
Yeah, I just bought Strap It On off Ebay, I finally made a PayPal account and shit, original 1990 Pressing too, I'm excited.
|
How about Head Of David? Not exclusively industrial, but they certainly had some good stuff. "Dustbowl," and "White Elephant" are fantastic. Also, Justin from Godflesh and Jesu was a member for awhile.
|
Fuck yeah, I love HoD, Dustbowl is one of my all time favorites. Also, Fall of Because, really awesome stuff.
|
Awesome! I come to enjoy Head Of David more and more every time I listen to them. Of course it's as if anything Justin touches turns to gold, almost everything. Also, I know they aren't exactly UK but Foetus put out what I consider to be one of the best semi-industrial albums with "Nail." The Throne of Agony is probably the most depressing song in music, but so incredibly upbeat.

interesting link jpb. not half bad. never really listened to that sort of thing before. its good though, mellow then it kinda builds up. is this what real industrial is or? i sound like a fuckin noob. : D
|
Foetus is extremely hard to classify, but that is a pretty good example of early industrial. Especially the huge drum machine sound.
Industrial later went from that style, to overlong, over-sampled, repetitive almost club sounding tracks. Bands like My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult are a prime example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN0yI-ambNY (Never mind the actual video, listen to the song :) That song is actually really good! But shows kind of how industrial became more mainstream as years went on. Far removed from anything Foetus did in the early days right? |
TKK is a great band. I've got Kooler Than Jesus on cassette and I play it all the time.
|
Couldnt actually listen to that last link. Bum computer, but I know what your saying with the modern industrial. I'll need to sample from all the avenues and times of course.
|
TKK, I really enjoyed Confessions and Kooler, but really anything after just became such a parody, typical and similar. I guess predictable is a better term. I'm trying to think up some more Industrial bands from the UK but I'm drawing a blank. But, from the states, how about the band with the best catchphrase in music, Chemlab! "Fuck Art, Let's Kill!" Harmless fun. :)
|
Chemlab is good as well.
|
I enjoyed early Scorn records, but since mid-90's, just find most releases boring. If I want some damn low-tempo industrial hip-hop, I listen to Dälek.
