Dinosaurs 'killed by asteroid size of Isle of Wight'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8550869.stm

"A review of scientific evidence has concluded that dinosaurs were made extinct by an asteroid. "

Can you believe it?!!

Saya 03-04-2010 04:29 PM

Excellent, I can begin calling in bets.

Despanan 03-04-2010 04:34 PM

Bullshit. Gay marriage killed the dinosaurs.

Saya 03-04-2010 04:36 PM

I'll beat vindi to the punch, "Dinosaurs didn't exist! Their fossils were man made and put there by scam scientists. Its a conspiracy!"

Despanan 03-04-2010 05:16 PM

Scientists are lead around by their wallets. It's my opinion! You can't say anything about it!

I thought dinosaurs died off because they didn't fit on Noah's Ark?

Renatus 03-04-2010 06:12 PM

If this estimation on the size of the asteroid is correct then we're at alot more risk of death from above than previously thought. It used to be thought that it took an asteroid the size of Texas, if memory serves me right. The Isle of Wiight is puny in comparison(less than a 1000th of the size of Texas), which means there are alot more humanity ending asteroids out there than previously thought.

Right, but remember cold-blooded animals are more sensitive to change in environment than warm-blooded animals (us), so hopefully it'd take more to finish us off.

Methadrine 03-05-2010 09:20 AM

Great. Now revive some of the extinct bastards so I have some meat for my dinosauce... *sound of crickets*

PortraitOfSanity 03-05-2010 09:35 AM

Dude...

How awesome would that be?

T-Rex steaks, and Brontosaurus leg roasts....

Alan 03-05-2010 03:11 PM

Dinosaurs were warm-blooded.

It's a good thing that this got straightened out. Heaven only knows what kind of harm could've been caused had this fact gone unknown. Let us thank the media for being on the ball with this one.

Like Alan said, they were warm blooded, and were around a lot longer than humans have been (and we are the only remaining hominid, our genus was not very successful from that standpoint). That asteroid wiped out 70% of all animal and plant life on earth at the time, humans probably wouldn't survive that.

Besides, birds evolved from dinosaurs, so its not like their descendants aren't around, just much different.

Oh yea, forgot lol.

I was half asleep when I thought of that...
