I can't believe it. He was too young. And there's no way the band ever sounds the same with someone else.

Shit.

Entropic 04-15-2010 02:18 PM

I am incredibly saddened, because I only listened to Type O Negative for his voice.

The Divine Ms. M 04-15-2010 02:52 PM

Wtf?!

sad news...RIP Pete:(

korinna5555 04-15-2010 04:10 PM

Can't really say I give a fuck, and now my facebook is full of "RIP Peter, We'll Miss You..."

*rolls eyes*

Ben Lahnger 04-15-2010 04:18 PM

I never had much interest in them until I bought a special edition DVD of the classic horror film Nosferatu, for which they had recorded a special alternate soundtrack. It was pretty good.

JCC 04-15-2010 04:31 PM

I always thought Type O Negative were a bit shit. He had an impressive dick though.

SiouxsiePernova 04-15-2010 06:32 PM

So, this isn't another hoax?

Ben Lahnger 04-15-2010 06:36 PM

If you click on the link you'll see the Rolling Stone article has links to corroborating stories. I also confirmed multiple sources on Google News before I started the thread.

I kind of like Type O, and I got to see them once (they were playing with Hatebreed...very weird combination), but I honestly can't say that I care much about this. He's just another guy that I don't know who has died. I'm also tired of the "R.I.P. Peter Steele" text messages. My friends care that much. Boo.

He was a coke head. What do you expect?

That was pretty much the first thing I thought.

Um, how do you explain Keith Richards then?

Besides, at the start of the year it was big news that he had gone into rehab, and had gotten religious while he kicked his habits.

I don't (usually) expect someone to drop dead months after they clean up and find God. But I get where you are coming from.

Stormtrooper of Death 04-16-2010 06:02 AM

RIP and all that, but I didn't see people doing all this stuff for Kawakami or Quorthon and shit, I'm just saying.

alchemie 04-16-2010 06:50 AM

Yes. Sad indeed. Will miss the tall a$$ motherfu--er.

Actually, he'd been sober and clean for a while.

Still, things like that take their toll on your body, even if you quit.

Pete, you will be missed.

Bete Noire 04-16-2010 03:12 PM

Damn, I've always quite liked Type O. Bad news.

He will be sadly missed by me. It feels like the end of an era of my life. I used to see Type-O play, frequently. I'm still in shock. I heard them for the first time my first day in high school. Powerful emotional ties there.

Bugger Keith, Try and explain Lemmy.

As someone who listened to Type O everyday in the car and at home.... it came as a serious blow.

Yes he had drug problems in the past. but you just don't expect it or even THINK about it. I wasn't thinking: Oh, yes, any day now Pete will die!

No. I am saddened. Deeply. I can't stop playing Type O songs now. Some of you may not understand it (clearly from reading someone of the BS comments on here lacking any respect of any kind)... but this is my first big death of someone I was really deeply influenced by. Yes others have died, but they have not touched me as deeply.

It's the voice. And the lyrics. Himself.

R.I.P.
Too bad I never got to meet you. Maybe when I die?

I don't think that the band will continue with out Pete, but if they do: they might do their previously planned October tour with Glen Danzig (two members of Type O are in Danzig, and that's the closest to a half decent stand in that they will ever get). I missed the Alice In Chains concert that played in my state, AND I'll never see Type O live, I'm really not happy.

He's enjoying Halloween in heaven...

Willard, I know how you feel. It's times like this I wish I could turn back time.

And I agree, I don't see Type O Negative without Steele. It just wouldn't be the same. (obviously)

Willard 04-17-2010 08:23 PM

I'd like to get one of his guitar picks. The price on ebay ranges from $0.81 to $100.
