A newbie to this culture.
 

Hello, all.

I'm Nicole.

I think Gothic culture to be very beautiful and alluring. And yet, I know not how to integrate myself into it, and it into me. I am incredibly serious about this matter.

I'm 16 years old, and I'm not an imbecille, but I feel like one when approaching something so beautiful and so unknown.



I have a very bright, sunny, 'flowery' side of me. Almost a hippie.

The other part of me feels an inexplicable joy at night. It loves finnish rock, as well as deep music comprised of minor and locrian scales, and so on. It also loves Edgar Allen Poe. (I cannot stress that one enough.) It is, and will always be, in love with Gothic culture.


In general, I love to read, stargaze, play piano, and the ukelele. I feel almost like I'm engulfed in a hazy high during day, and in a clear joy at night.


In life, I have many things I'd like to accomplish, such as...
learning about herbs, owning and managing my own theater, composing music to my heart's content, and loving a lot.

Hi Vision! I'm also a newbie, I joined yesterday. And yes we are Baby G0ths. We have mutualism in how we feel about this culture and one thing we have in common is Music!! I play 2 drums a Trit0m and Snare, and I can also play the Trumpet, not as go0d as the drums though. I also play the Marimba and Steel drums, they are great!
Well, even though I am n0t really into theatre, I enjoy public speaking and stuff like that.

I'll go ahead and be the first big dick here and tell you you should probably check out some Goth Rock, the general consensus here being (last I bothered to check) that goth is primarily a musical subculture. Siouxsie and the Banshees, Christian Death, London After Midnight, and The Mob are a good start, and should give you a pretty over-arching idea of the musical aspect of things, though they by no means cover all the styles of goth music.

That being said, welcome to g-net Nicole :) If you can deal with some snarkiness you should do okay here.

Every time I post, three quotes appear on my signature. They're racist comments that Xjin said, followed by a hilarious cry that she's "not racist!"

Dying to Bleed. He's been on this site for a good few years. And we have all dealt with a lot of dumb people. I will say though, can you not do the whole zeros in your words and oddly capitalized letters mid-word. And I mean, he's got a point, if you're going to use a word without knowing it's definition, or having come up with your own connotative meaning to the original at least know what the original meaning is. Especially if it's not your first language, you don't want to accidentally insult someone! Well, it seems like you enjoy doing actually.

Jillian, he got you so riled up you had a typo... I mean the guy just doesn't understand quoting in a signature and is pegging you as a blatant racist when all you did was spot an error on his word usage which, for some fantastical reason, provoked him to insult you over and over and over and over and over again with quite little reason, if any at all.

If you ever come back (something I doubt considering the corner you painted yourself into), I have some advice for you when it comes to issues of race and being an ethnic minority in a subculture.

While there are indeed racist @ssholes out there, and they seem to come out of the woodwork on the internet, you should be very careful about jumping to conclusions. Not every word, statement, or message that deals with race or ethnicity is meant as an insult. As you discovered during your exchanges with Alan, context informs meaning. Without a clear idea of the intent or the circumstances surrounding a given statement, you have no cause to call someone out for what you assume are 'racist' statements. Attempting to do so only makes you look narrow-minded and hypersensitive.

I applaud your attempt to take a stand against what you perceived as a racist insult (namely, Alan's signature). However, in the future, pick your battles carefully and be absolutely sure your indignation is justified before you engage someone concerning this subject.
