A serious problem...
I've had back trouble for a while. I'll twist, and it'll K-C-CR-RA-AC-CK-K!!!!!!!! And it feels like heaven, plus some pain. :)
But the problem is, today I bent down, and I heard a 'pop'. Then, there was an immediate pain in one of the vertebrae between my shoulder-blades. My granny says there's a red spot on the skin, there, too. It fucking hurts. I can't afford a chiropractor, though I desperately need one; what the hell do I do!? Oh! I know--why don't I post a thread in the 'Whining' section of a 'gothic' forum asking other people? Seriously--can anyone offer help? Advice? Too many young people today experience these problems!!! |
I would say see a doctor but than again like you said...
First of all I'd google it.. And when you twist, my mom said that doesn't crack your back, but your hip blones. It sounds crazily wrong, but it could be. Espeically because when you lay on the ground and have someone press against your back, it makes crack noises from a different area. But they do this in spas and those relaxing places... So I'm sure doing that's fine. First of all, I would put a wooden board under the seets of the bed, when sleeping lay down on your back side. It's really good for the back, it straightens it for one thing, and another it helps for ofcourse, back problems. ( Random fact: When you lay on the back, it's like a slow process of a facelift - Thanks to gravity ) Keep doing that, and if that doesn't help try massaging it time to time. Im not a doctor or anything but these are just opinions I think it'll work... Also try rubbing Bengay on it. But my main suggestion is to not ask it on here but on places like yahoo answers, they really help. Hope you feel better ! I'll pray for you :) |
I find that lying on my stomach, propped up slightly on my elbows, helps a lot. But my back issues are lower back rather than shoulders. My brother is studying physiotherapy, as well as being a yoga instructor and a personal trainer, so I'll drop him a line on facebook and get back to you ASAP bro.

The pop, combined with the pain and the redness says, "Go see a professional!!" Taking good care of your spine is SOOOO important, and you don't want to risk making it worse or seriously injuring your spinal cord.. that stuff is delicate.

Hey, dude.. I'm in school for massage therapy and will drive right through Lexington on my way home to Lou.
Want me to see if there's anything I can do? |
Jesus Christ. Don't go get a massage and don't go to a chiropractor.
SEE A DOCTOR. |
Spinal column injuries aren't something to fuck around with, trust me I know,if things had went a quarter inch further than they had I would've been paralyzed,or dead a lot sooner.
I'll throw in with the rest and tell you to seek professional help A.S.A.P. |
"Back pain affects 80% of Americans at some time in their lives. It comes in many forms, from lower back pain, middle back pain, or upper back pain to low back pain with sciatica. Common back pain causes include nerve and muscular problems, degenerative disc disease, and arthritis." - WebMD
WebMD's Back Pain Guide I'm with everyone else here. The long-term health of your back is nothing to mess around with. Find the money somehow and see a professional. |

In fact a chiropractor would be a much better choice than a GP for most back problems and that chiropractic session most likely should be coupled with physical therapy massages, and even on their own either a physical therapist or a chiropractor would be better a choice than a GP who would give you pain meds, do nothing, and/or refer you to a specialist, most likely a chiropractor. True that a student wouldn't be the best choice but if I can't see an MD for whatever reason and I know someone in med school I would at least see what they had to say, same thing applies here (after all a massage therapist is not the same as a masseuse).

No it isn't. Chiropractic school is much the same as med school, and has essentially the same requirements for admission, it just has less of a focus on pharmacology and more focus on the skeletal system. In order to get a license to practice you must pass the board exams, much like any other medical professional. This isn't to say that a chiropractor should or ever could be your PCP but to say that they practice alternative medicine is far from accurate.
|
The requirements may be the same but it is generally classified as a CAM.
|
In the US, chiropractors are licensed medical doctors. Some may promote alternative medicine, but I also know chiros who are very quick to refer patients for surgeries and medications.
On the off chance I were to take a look at AD's back, I'd follow my school's protocol for assessment of people with back problems and recent injury. If I didn't feel completely comfortable with giving massage, I wouldn't. AD, I can refer you to a chiro in Lou who is very flexible with payment and VERY good. (he also teaches the anatomy course at my school) |
A Chiropractor is not an MD by default.. and it is not required that a DC have their MD.
There's nothing wrong with going to see a general practitioner first.. I'm sure that they could refer you to a good Chiropractor, should you need one. |
If you have an insurance, definitely go to a doctor first. One of my friends was in a car accident a year ago and still needs to be massaged once a week, but its free because her doctor deemed it necessary.

Yeah but a dentists benefits are proven, and GPs aren't really equipped to pull out a tooth for you, and chiropractic treatment is still viewed by the medical community as a sort of holistic thing. My roommate says the only time they learned about it was when they were talking about holistic things like acupuncture. There might be benefits but it hasn't been properly established.
And GP still knows a thing or two about backs, and they know more than how to crack it. Its still a better idea to go to a doctor first and see what they recommend, they may end up referring him which looks way better insurance wise anyway. |
It sounds like you may have thrown your back out.
I know the chiro's expensive, so go to your regular doctor first. |

"Well for starters tell him to stop fucking cracking his back using lever force. Second, he needs to treat for inflammation. A topical anti-inflam ointment would probably really help reduce his symptoms. If he gets sharp pain with specific movement he should go to see someone. A good osteopath or chiropractor would be my first choice. Otherwise the standard battery of protect, rest, ice, compress and elevate applies."
Thus spake the physiotherapist in training. Hope it helps dude. |

Yeah, I thought that sounded weird too.
|
Its what chiropractic treatment was initially based on, and a lot also believe quacky thing like immunization doesn't work. I guess its like people who practice Chinese medicine might gain benefit from the herbalism aspect but not necessarily believe it balances their chi like traditionally believe.
Oh, and AD seems to be banned, dunno if he's taking this info down. |
He has been banned, and I'm Nick Blinko-ing this thread.
