But no, I'd say that Alan is a little "rough around the edges," though not in the way Onyx means, I think. Kind of like a rock from the shore recently thrown into the river. Most young adults are.

No he's not a dick, or "rough around the edges". He has is opinions just like any other person its just the way how he responds to others.

Alan is rough around the edges in that he isn't very mellow. He argues against almost everything he disagrees with in a rather abraisive manner, and doesn't let a lot of things slide (unless he's much pickier about small things than I thought). He is often in agreement with you, so you don't find him so sharp.
Alan tries as hard as he can to be rational (and I commend you for that, Alan), but he does so to the extent that he sometimes forgets the emotional side of an argument, and how important such things are to humanity. Emotion is not always good, but nor is rationality always good. Faith and curiosity - both emotions - are two main things that allow humanity to accomplish things against all odds.
I think he also forgets the variety of people who make up the human species.

Anyway, that's my general opinion of Alan. I think he's a great guy, and really wants to change the world for the better. Maybe I'm just cynical.

As for Alan agreeing with me. Have you SEEN the conversations we have? It's usually a toss up as to weather I agree with him or tell him to either fuck off or die in a fire. It's almost funny.

I suppose... But you generally agree with him more than other people do, and at least have the same style of arguing.
