Tomorrow
I finally do the GRE. I feel confident by the practice tests that I will get a high score.
But still, wish me luck. Oh, and if anyone has any tips for concentrating and jumpstarting your intelligence for a couple of hours or five, do tell me. I know caffeine does help with brain functions and I'm lucky to not get hyperactive with coffe, so I know I'll be highly caffeinated. Helped me on my SATs. Any other suggestions? I'll check this thread out before leaving to the test. |
Fish oil capsules, or some vitamin supplements always have helped me to focus in the past. Make sure your body is running like a well-oiled machine, give it a good nights rest, an epic breakfast and no booze has been what I've recommended when I've asked the same question.
Then take the test and walk all over it like a boss. |
Good luck Alan, I'm sure you'll walk it. My advice is pretty much what Corpsey said, a decent nights rest and a good breakfast. Nothing too heavily carb based though otherwise it might make you sleepy. Make sure you're well hydrated as well, being thirsty is a big distraction I've found.

Confidence is one of your best tools with tests. If anything, I'm certain that you'll get a great grade.
Go get em, tiger. |
I'm sure you'll do great! Good luck!

No, its true. I know what I've learned so far in Mandarin, and I can draw the characters I know decently, but on the weekly quizzes so far I haven't had much confidence, and I fuck up on things when I know better. Like, we had to label adjectives, adverbs, subjects, objects, etc etc, and I realized as soon as I passed it in today that I labeled all the adverbs as adjectives. I KNOW the difference! I was just too nervous.
Anyway, good luck Alan! Hope you do well and let us know how it went. |

Alan: Highly illegal, but VERY SMALL doses of amphetamine. In doses small enough that you can sit still, it can allow you to superfocus. Adderal, Ritalin, and other ADD/ADHD medication that many students take illegally to help them study are very similar to amphetamine, they just take out everything that makes it fun. |
I DID IT!!!!!!!
My scores won't be official until November because they changed the grading, but the computer gave me a preliminary range according to the old scoring (minus the essay section because that is graded subjectively, not by a program) My score should range somewhere between 1420 and 1570. The average GRE score for Yale for the doctoral program is 1359. For Berkeley it's 1355. For Harvard it's 1323. Princeton 1357. And so on. Even if I get the lowest score from the range I'm above the average for doctoral programs and well above the average for masters. |
That's a phenomenal effort bro. I knew you'd get a sick score.
|
Congrats, Alan! :D
|
Excellent! Now hurry the day when you leave academia and become a world leader so you can solve the world's problems.
|
Well done, Alan. It's gratifying to see all your hard work pay off. I expect this (along with all your other efforts) should open some very interesting doors for you.

Knowledge = power
With great power comes great responsibility (Noblesse oblige) So, you owe us dude. Leverage your wisdom to make the world a little more tolerable. Nothing says you can't have fun whilst doing it. Leaders have groupies too. |
Congratulations man :D
|
Of course you got a high score.
Never a doubt in my mind. |
Wow, that's awesome! There's no way you won't get into what you want with a score like that.
|
Ya did good, son! ;)
|
Congratulations Alan! Woo Hooo
