Trolls

After only being here for a very short while and having seeing quite a few 'trolls' come and go, I've been wondering why so many are attracted to this forum. From what I can see it is mainly a literary board with a smattering of other topics, most of which combined seem to not be of much interest to them. Have there been trolls since the start of the board or have there been more lately?

I'm sorry if this seems like a pointless thread, I'm just curious.

spookypurple 05-05-2006 05:45 AM

No, I'm right with you there. I've been a-pondering that one too.

Can't help with an answer though. Sorry.

Demonista_Ravenesque 05-05-2006 06:44 AM

Well....in any crazy circumstances that a troll arrives, use your emergency ignore function!

It's bliss and it's purdy darn awesome.

Gotta believe me on this!

Well Rose, trolls come every now and then from the time since I've seen here. Usually they seem like people who are a bit spiteful of the fact that Gnet had rejected them earlier in some way.

My advice? just don't pay attention to them.

TROLLS: the Unofficial Basics from the Guide Book.
--

An internet troll takes pleasure in the pain of others and causing chaos throughout the internet. They can be devastating if allowed to sow their seed, which they relish in doing. They do not even suffer from comments- they are impervious to your insults and are much smarter than you are. The rules of a moral society do not apply to the Troll. There is only the Troll itself and her own desires and wishes that are proper.

-----------

Trolls for many ages have preyed on other internet users, their tactics for ensnaring prey often include:

-Trapping one with guilt due to their made up and dramatic problems that draw to them attention. This includes: self loathing, suicidal feelings, guilt trips and other feelings that make one miserable and obligated to them because they feel sorry for them (the emotional vampires continue to drain until nothing is left and give nothing back).
.
=== This tactic is most commonly used and is by far the most clever trap/weapon in the "Trolls" arsenal. The more gentle nature of Troll breeds utilize this.

-----------

-Rambling on even after they have been told and informed they were wrong. Often Trolls do not understand the meaning of defeat thus they are impervious to ones words of intellectual wit or criticism. They ensnare others in their bickering because negative attention is better than no attention at all.
.
===Trolls do not know the meaning of defeat, there is only win, win, win. Many even triumph through patience and boredom so this is important to watch for. this is used by the Trolls who lack self esteem or have to much and must make others miserable to raise their own sense of worth. Often they are not like by members of their own family or have poor social lives. These Trolls make up most of the majority and are often the hardest to make leave. Often they come back twice as nasty.

-----------

-Overtly sexual natures and obscene sexual appetites. Often they will spread their legs for almost anyone who is willing to give them attention. They think by revealing their "junk", they will have many admirers and often it is the only thing going for them.
.
===Trolls have neither dignity nor any self respect, anyone is fair prey. If they can't find males often they will seek out females when desperate. The Trolls who are sexually deprived and are in need of being layed often use this method.

(This Breed of Troll is not extinct and not common but flourish among certain places)

How Does One Spot A Troll?

Top Five Signs

5. Horrendous typing skills
4. Days that get worse than average when you do not pay attention to her.
3. Often they are filled with piss and vinegar from rejection, as Demonista has stated.
2. Impervious to slanders or comments.
1. Much smarter than thou art.

-----------

What do I do when I spot a troll?

The answer is simple, you must quickly hit the ignore button or convince the troll he/she has won by telling it "Bye" or stopping the conversation. This is important and something that must be done to prevent the Troll from spreading its spores of malice and contempt. Seasoned veterans know how to detect the most clever of trolls but even at times they too are fooled. Should you suspect a Troll lurking about, please inform the community to save them from the Troll.

Ive been acused of being a troll so many times and had no idea what it meant till now. If there really are such fools out there than thats pretty lame and I would have to say get a life. To get on a board just to "win win win" or inflict pain or whatever is lame. I would think mostly kids or loners would be into that but you never know. I play SOCOM alot and there are alot of people that spend tons of hours looking for ways to cheat so there are losers out there.

4mytribe 05-05-2006 08:55 AM

Ok sorry to have spoken. :(

spookypurple 05-05-2006 11:54 AM

Starting to get the idea now. Thanks.

So can people have troll-like tendencies when having an off day? Is there a continuum of troll-ness?

I'm sorry if that sounds daft or flippant, but it's a genuine question. You know me, always nosy.

Idoru 05-05-2006 03:17 PM

I did a quick reccy and googled the word Gothic.
This is the first site that comes up.

I imagine that is why the forum gets so many 'trolls' as you call them.

4mytribe, I don't think of yourself as a troll, but you do have earned some bad reputation by the xenophobia.
All of us discriminate in one way or another, but not all of us express it freely.
I myself have a loathing for most dogmatic religions, but I do not rant much about it, because religion discussions get pretty heated up.

Thanks Gods I've found your posts to be very well grounded and level headed. I hear you on the xenophobia thing as regards to how people view me. I also understand where your coming from when you say we all discriminate.

I think I'm kinda getting tired of the politics to some degree and though I feel very pasionately about the things I feel about its not me to be like this 100% of the time. So I'm glad to get off it and just not force it which I think is what I was doing. I think as an artist its easy to get worked up but there is so much to life that I just dont see the point in going in circles with people that I really respect. I think if something jumps out at me I might say something that I just cant hold back from but for the most part I really love this place and just want a place where I can be me and talk without the uhhh I dunno I just think to go in circles is to try and irritate people and I dont agree with that especially when I have alot of respect.

Hope that makes any sense.

I liked the way you were allways very grounded in your response to things that I said that I know mustve given you reason to get worked up. I know that on other boards there is oft a tendancy to get ridiculous. You were allways cool and for those that bitch slapped me - well I probably needed it.

God knows I've been bitch slapped by XNG enough to bare the right to her HOE and she my pimp.

On that note I'm off to the corner to earn some more cash.

Every time I think of Trolls, I imagine either Morlocks from the old Time Machine movie, or the grubby little frothy characters from the movie, Willow. Or the cavemen from GEICO commercials....

roserougesang 05-06-2006 08:50 PM

The sad thing is, when I think of trolls I tend to think of World of Warcraft

I feel like a lowly creature :D

Solumina 05-06-2006 09:04 PM

hmmm...when I think of trolls the three kids of the troll king from the Tenth Kingdom pop in my head. God that was a good miniseries, I should get the dvd

Godslayer Jillian 05-06-2006 09:06 PM

Rouserougesang, I love what you wrote ofr your location, but I'd rather take the XD out. Some things are funnier if they seem serious.

I agree. I mean, on picking your rants with care.

I generally tend to stay well away from anything emotive: for me, I prefer to debate face-to-face where I can take take into consideration other factors which could affect the dynamics. You know - tone, body language, that kinda thing.

I'll fix it up right now :)
The sad thing about the location is, I don't even like bread (can you believe it). I was just trying to find a location one might consider amusing.

i'd just like to point out that we've been having Troll invasions since day one. The only thing new is that in the past the invasions were rapidly quelled by Mods that had sufficient powers, even the Admin at the time jumped in and staved off a few hordes.

Ah, the memories.
