Theatre of Tragedy
Okay, I've searched this forum and haven't been able to find a thread discussing a band I have been in love with recently. If there is one, please direct me to it.
Theatre of Tragedy. An exquisite blend of metal and opera. Amazing vocals, incredibley well-written lyrics, and the music behind them is extremely talented. I was given a few songs by a friend. Haven't listened to much else today. "...A Distance There Is..." is such a striking, emotional, beautiful song. Who else out there listens to them? I want to buy an album or two - what is their best album in your opinion, and why? Do you have any recommendations as to where I can find their music? |
I like 'em!!
I've listened to '...A Distance There Is...' & I must say it is one of their bests. However when they went all electro they lost it abit, but now they're back at doing metal. You should listen to the single 'Storm' it's rather good. |
I have listened to one old album of theirs and what I didn't like was all the latin or whatever language that was. I think it sounded arogant. But the vocals and music really are beutiful and I have lately considered giving them another try.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone!
Slap Your Love: Where do you download their music? I have A Rose For The Dead as well as a couple other random ones - Automatic Lover and Bring For Ye Shadow. I have everything Nightwish ever put out. Aheh. Singles, demos, albums, all of it, up until 2004. I like them a lot but what I've heard of Theatre of Tragedy I've liked better. A similar female-fronted band I would recommend: Where Angel's Fall. I have heard a bit of Tristiana but can't seem to find any of their music in downloadable form. |
I only heard a few songs but the ones i did hear were pretty good.
maybe i will buy one of there cd's
If you're looking for Tristania stuff, their ealier stuff was similar to the early T.O.T music.
But personally I love their modern stuff, though they will admit they were inspired by T.O.T. |
Awesome, thanks so much. :)
I download everything on limewire. Course, and yes Tristania is hard to find everywhere even on limewire, and I will look into Where Angel's Fall.
Soulseek is good if you want entire albums though, though you have to be prepared to share songs as well.
Personally, nowadays I'm more fond of Tristania but I still occasionally play Theatre of Tragedy. Does anyone know why Liv Kristine left the band in the first place? |
She was kicked out & in a rather cruel fashion at that. She looked on the website & thought it was a joke, then she contacted them & they confirmed it. It was the last time she spoke to them actually.
Perhaps her voice didn't fit in with the new sound. |
Aw. That's not very good. =\
I thought it was really mean. but Liv Kristine has moved on to better things now.
Like what?
Leaves Eyes! That's what she's up to nowdays. Oh yeah & her pop solo artist career. Theatre Of Tragedy have Nell now.
Pop-solo? Wtf? Oh yeas! Ofcourse Leaves eyes! Rofl, I'm dumb, I'm dumb as hell..XD
Well here's her pop solo career site if anyone's interested http://www.livkristine.de/ & her younger sister is in a band called Midnattsol, which is also pretty good.
I'm not all to interested in "pop" anything. Besides synth-pop and "Pop rocks" the candy. =D Yummm..
I was merely offering a link for people who want to view her voice in a different aspect. That's all.
I know. I know. Didn't mean to be rude or anything. >.<
rock on'! I figured some people had to be fans here! This is my alltime favorite band.
I know, She_Is_My_Sin, isn't that fucked up?! Its like TOT pulled a Nightwish or something the way that they booted Liv Kristine - what gives?? Please don't tel me Within Temptation or Lacuna Coil is next or i'll snap, lol Yeah i have to admit though Nell is mighty damn impressive and wonderfully deep - she had much to fulfill to be a singer for the band and i have to say thati'm fairly pleased with her work. 'Fade' and 'Debris' are 2 of my favorites off the new album 'Storm'. If i had to pick a fav album it would hands down be Aegis. Clasic Liv Kristine and the band in their prime with a sweeping rapture of their definitve sound and Elizbethean lyrics. |
I love Theatre of Tragedy. Velvet Darkness They Fear is probably my favorite album. I hate their industrial/techno days. Oh Whom the Moon Doth Shine, Cassandra, and Black As the Devil Painteth are a few of my favorites from them.
Buy the self-titled one, and Velvet Darkness They Fear.
Both those albums are awesome (Der Tanz Der Schatten, Hamlet For A Slothful Vassel, Dying -- I Only Feel Apathy to name a few good song). The rest aren't even worth mentioning. Theatre of Tragedy pretty much pioneered Gothic Metal (death-doom's younger cousin). Liv's new band is not as impressing. Not even worth mentioning actually, except for the song "Vinland Saga" because it's so astonishingly beautiful. That's the intro though, to one of their albums. After that i all goes downhill. |
