Black sheep
I was hoping that when I moved up from school to college, there would be other people like me who I could make friends with. So far, everyone's very friendly, but... heck, I dunno how to put it. I just don't fit in.
Every one of them is just so normal. You know, they go out and have Joe/Jill Average evenings with their group of Joe/Jill Average friends. I don't fit in with any of them and I've got no idea where to go now to find other people who have something in common with me. Where would I be able to go to meet some new people? :( |
Don't worry. I thought we'd get some nice alternative people move to my sixth form, but I was wrong. I'm the only 'goth' in the school, or so it seems. It gets lonely sometimes, there are days I'd like to discuss something but I can't because nobody's heard of it. I'd like to meet some 'new gothic friends' but considering that there aren't any clubs or many people like me around I guess I'll just have to make do with the situation I'm in.
|
It's hell, yep. Went through the 'only goth in the school' thing myself. But I found them lurking in the city, once I knew where to look. Try the ciy nearest you.

City nearest... coffee shops that are not starbucks, independent music stores, etc.
|
Yes, hidden music stores are a really good place to start searching....=)
|
also, looking for the other "outsiders" and getting to know them might just bring you to discovering some "hidden goths".
And try to not get stuck up and think you are too special to hang out with the "normal" people, as you called them. Now don't take this as an offence. I am talking of my own experience. Just be open to any new accuaintances and, hell, you might be surprised how many thinkers you might find hidden in the faceless crowd. |

I hang out with people who doesn't share the interests as me. I do feel left out when they talk about Monster Hunter games and so on. But they are the only friends I have and accepted me for who I am.

Indeed, it is nice to be amongst a variety of people with lots of different opinions. |
Oh I don't turn down any chance of friendship - I've had so few chances up til now, as everyone else used to turn me down, that I do take every chance I get at forging new relationships. All the people (bar two stuck-up girls and one lone wolf) in my new college class are really great and dead friendly. The only problem is that they just aren't into the same stuff as I am, so there isn't a lot we can connect with. I'd say "you into Infected Mushroom?" and they think I'm talking about an STD or something... Therefore I'm hoping to venture out into the big scary world to find like-minded souls.
We all agree on the same political view though - Blair and Bush are evil bastards - so that's something. :o :D |
I totally understand how you feel. I have to sit there & listen to discussions about last night's Eastenders & when you want to talk about something you care about it's dismissed because no one knows what it is! I did have a friend who was kind of into the goth scene but she's moved away.
|
Even worse than being dismissed is when they don't even acknowledge you said anything at all, pretending they didn't hear rather than admitting ignorance. >_<
But I shan't gripe. I've got better folk around me now than I've had for years. |
Infected Mushroom?
That band is more famous amongst preppies than "alternatives" around here. |
Haha, I'm probably the only person in Paisley who listens to them. Everyone here is into mainstream pop and rock. Pop, "garage" rock, rap and country are the only genres of music that I actually can't stand listening to; that's why I hate how "you're only a goth if you listen to goth music", because I listen to goth music as well as a hundred other genres, hehe. Exclusive preference of one or two genres doesn't taste good to me.
|
In my experience it is always a good idea to turn into a "joiner" - join anything that attracts people who might have the same interests as you even though they're not goths per se. I got most of my friends and aquaintances from choirs, archery clubs and meet- ups, friends' friends etc. Don't sit on your behind moping, go out and do something fun.
|
A good suggestion. I'd like to find a hobby that's relatively cheap to sustain, lol. Used to go to Scouts, but I left when all the males in it became jackasses. Might join a writing club...

Do they have any good clubs or concerts where you live, those are places where people like us gather. The coffee shop suggestion is a good one as well as the music store bit. We have a few good clubs and I've made some frieds there. I will make friends with all sorts of people though. It is nice to have at least a couple of friends who are into the same music and lifestyle. Most people look at me like I'm a fucking lunitic a lot of times though. When it comes to my music they are completely lost, never heard of it, that same kind of thing. Don't let it get you down.
