'Gothic' Clothes

Some people seem a bit.. clingy. That probably isn't even near the word that I actually mean but.. oh well. Some people seem to.. look at the front of a marilyn manson album or look at all the people in black and copy them. Everything is copying, but I was wondering. Do you set yourself to certain clothing or do you wear what you want?

I'll wear what I want personally, although I prefer to wear black and stuff but I wont force myself to wear the same thing day and day out. If I haven't got anything to wear, I'll fling on the bad stuff. If I'm going out somewhere nice I'll probably make sure I've got something I like I was just wondering what you lot do. xD

By the way, I apologise is a thread has been made like this.. I'm probably stupid and clicked past it.

She_Is_My_Sin 10-26-2006 01:56 PM

You should go make an introduction on the introduction section. I'm glad you noticed there was another thread like this, bear that in mind when you want to make a new thread :)

Ashenstar 10-27-2006 09:45 PM

Meh about the other thread

It's okay. I'll post in this thread. I personally wasn't allowed to wear the colour black..ok..shade black when I was growing up. I had 1 black piece of clothing. My mom wouldn't even let me wear anything even close to goth or alternative. I wanted to so badly. I would try to wear the "sexlets" to help myself feel better. Now that I'm on my own I still want to do more alternative goth. Sometimes cyber, sometimes ******.
But I would never set myself to something because then I would miss out on all the other styles I love. Right now I DO wear whatever I want, finally. If I want to look "goth" or crazy or artsy or whatever i do. I am sometimes pretty "preppy", but hell I feel bubbly and what not that day. Dress to me is just a costume, no matter what style.

Argine 10-27-2006 09:52 PM

I wear whatever I like, which is typically one style but not always. I'm inclined towards the whole romanti-goth lace & ruffles thing, but I do have plenty of 'out of character' type clothing, like a very preppy-looking black & white plaid skirt or these multi-coloured sneaker boots.

Stars

Um what's up with the little ***** in my comment?

chain ring 10-28-2006 07:37 AM

I think some naughty words get turned to stars automatically, but I've never tried to figure out what's okay and what turns to asterisks.

Were you trying to write lo-lita? Because the book is dirty and about pedophilia, so maybe that's why it's blocked.

VampiricYouth 10-28-2006 08:41 AM

I'm a fan of PVC, fishnet and spikey things. I like band T-shirts too. ^_^

What I don't get is that fuck shit damn bitch cunt whore aren't blocked, but ****** is? You can still write porn, smut and pedophilia and the like if you wanted to talk about ****** porn.

Ashenstar 10-28-2006 12:06 PM

Mu hahahahahaha I was trying to write lo-lita. Next time I will just... i don't know ..spell it out for christ's sake! on a side note. I'm dumb and this morning I couldn't find my other black converse, so I just grabbed one of my pink ones. Well...I got to work and found that I have two left shoes. So..yes....so I'm missing my right pink and black one and it looks like I have 2 left feet. hmmmmm

chain ring 10-28-2006 04:37 PM

Pity it isn't snowing, so you could leave some enigmatic footprints.

Blindness is Black 10-29-2006 01:19 AM

I generally stray towards black T-shirt, blue jeans...it's just easier for me because I'm in such a hurry in the morning. I love the romantic-goth style, though, and I incorporate lace into my clothes whenever I can...I'm a sucker for pretty things.

VisciaDacia 10-29-2006 11:38 AM

I simply adore the whole Victorian/romantic type of look but I don't yet know how to sew and there aren't really any of those stores around here...the closest thing we've got to goth or punk clothes are Hot Topic and Spencer's, and most people in my age group seem to think those are goth/punk anyway, so I just buy whatever.

I like to think of people as candy...the wrapper is what draws your attention, and the flavor inside is what makes you want more [/cheesy simile]. I just wear whatever I feel looks good on me--I don't like to set limits.

me too. however working an 8 to five as a specialist for learning process disorders doesn't exactly make my work as goth friendly as i would like. so i just wear black. usually black tops and always a skirt.. i try to make it weird by wearing patterned stockings.

on regular days it's just a t shirt and jeans. sometimes black, sometimes not. that mostly depends on the weather and what clothes are clean.

on weekend nights it's super fun black ruffle/victorian lace corset extravaganza when i have the energy.

VisciaDacia even though i live in philly i am so with you about the whole i can't find any clothes thing. either it's all the same stuff or it's WAY to expensive. i have one word. EBAY. I get lots of stuff used on ebay, and the UK sellers have really awesome selections. are you on ebay? if you are, PM me and i can give you some good seller names to get you going if you'd like.

Since I started reading all the 1800-1900 classics, I've considered myself an anachronism that came to existence a hundred years later than I should.
So you can figure that my ideal look is the victorian one.
Unfortunately, as the look is forbidingly expensive and only available to me online, my look is limited to either a formal one (black pants with a fancy button shirt) or leather jacket with the shirt being the only thing that varies.

Pseudomorrow 10-29-2006 08:30 PM

I tend to wear all tight fitting black clothing with the same two pairs of black denim jeans over and over.

I'm tactical, so I carry around a lot of gadgets on my belt in black sheaths.

I tend to get called Batman a lot for the utility belt.

But, on a Friday night or whenever I'm just out for something special, I tend to wear something a bit more formal, (yet still my style) with all of my gear taken off of my belt and put into my murse (man purse) so it's out of the way.

I really love a lot of the shirts they have for guys over at Heavy Red, but I'm currently in debt and can't afford their prices.

Pseudomorrow 10-29-2006 08:31 PM

Wow, I just realized I say "tend" waaay too much.

badteccy 10-30-2006 01:04 PM

I wear a lot of black but I wear color too. I am guilty of slightly copying looks though. I am really into the deathrock look and I take a lot of inspiration from pictures I've seen when altering clothes. I try to make it my own though.
I used to be more into the cyber look and I have no shame in admitting that I pretty much looked like most of the cybergoths at the club. I don't care though because I don't dress crazy to be different or make a statement, I dress this way because I like it.

i heart batman I get called batman too sometimes! not because of my cool utility belt though (i don't have one) but because of my batman t shirt.
seriously, batman is the best super hero ever. i would go so far to say that I have a nonhealthy obsession with batman.

Pseudomorrow 10-30-2006 02:42 PM

I have the Batman Handbook...

I think it's pretty obvious.

He's the new guy who has no idea what's going on yet.

I'm going to amend that slightly-- he seems to be more like the guy who doesn't really have any idea what's going on, period.
