I really do not see the big deal. I think his statement to be facetious. He is so happy, he feels awful and must cut himself. Maybe it is his sense of humor, but I think he should'nt be banned.
Also, it looks like a man can't have self confidence in this society. We expect people to not have self-confidence since it looks like arrogance. He might not be a nice, people person, but he is an individual nonetheless.
